Jesus H Christ's Custody Battle
by garyneal init's been a while since i posted here but i ran across a youtuber who is going through a custody battle against his wife who is in a religious cult.
he did not mention the name but it sounds like the jehovah's witnesses.
i've researched this in the past myself but was wondering if anyone here has had any knowledge or prior experience with situations like this.. the fact that his own parents have sided with her over this due to him being out is disgusting.

Same Talks Again and Again
by Akid48 inhey i’m back i know it’s been a long time since i’ve posted on the form but a lot things have been happening so i haven’t had much time to post.. ive been 14 for awhile now makes me happy because i’m getting closer to being able to get a job and work my way out of this.. i have meetings on saturdays now which is horrible because i rather have it on sunday because it’s already a sad day because i got to go to school the next day.three of our public talks have had different brothers saying the same thing talking about the signs of the end days.the thing that gets me is when they always try and bank on the earthquake part i mean i’m really into science so i already knew a lot about plate tectonics sea floor spreading etc but you get taught this in school.with plates always moving divergent convergent transform etc there will be earthquakes it’s the effect of plates moving against or rubing on each or going back into the mantle(subduction zones) it happens.so when there’s a report in japan of a lot of earthquakes it must be the end times!no japan is located on four plates it’s going to experience big earthquakes.. i don’t know that just gets under my skins when they try and say it’s the end days because of the earth having natural things happen like plate tectonics is something that’s been happening recently no we might have gotten our hands on the technology to spot earthquakes recently but this has been happening for millions of years.. speaking of years i hope you all have a great 2019 and i’ll definitely post more of my thoughts this year..

Akid48: last piece of advice I'll give. If the cards come down like that, if you can walk away from the table or stay and lose more money, quite literally, lose your earning potential and pick a family that won't pick you ("create a rift"), pick yourself. Apply to colleges, move, work hard, and live the real "real life" the Governing Body always promises but never dishes out. -

i strongly think the governing body's days as g. o. d. are numbered due to their complete incompetence to rule a corporation, brought on by a big and getting bigger shadow, and a persistent denial of anything negative about their corporation's claims to be god's earthly organization.

I'm with zeb, it's pretty clear by now that non-elite Jehovah's Witnesses won't rise up against the Governing Body and throw them down, not literally, but just draw a line in the sand like, We won't send you another dollar unless you get rid of disfellowshipping. People who get tired of being mistreated leave; those who don't, don't. So I think a government would need to force their hand to bring about change of any kind. Maybe, just maybe, them going bankrupt could make them change things too.

Right, it's just like when they send you to jw.org to get your questions answered: I'm sure most people don't bother to go and I'm sure at some level Jehovah's Witnesses know they pass the buck by sending them there. Same thing with the video: the producer/script writer whoever hopes the audience will fill in the blanks and assume that the JW explains it to the householder and voila, happy ending, they start studying the Bible, they get baptized! It's a fill in the blank religion, they leave a lot up to you that way they don't make claims that you can disprove. Can you prove Armageddon isn't coming "soon"? No, just like you can't prove that a bar which hangs a sign which says Free beer tomorrow won't actually give out free beer tomorrow, right? Can you prove Armageddon didn't come in 1975? Yeah, it didn't come in 1975, we're still here. It's sneaky, it's insidious. It's very likely intentional, at least at some level, on the part of the Governing Body.
Seriously kid: run for the hills. Take it from someone who knows.

Let me tell you something a mentor of mine once said: It's not supposed to work on you. Those videos are meant to impress and move people emotionally, not convince them intellectually. The Governing Body (they give the final say on everything, let's be honest) does that because evolution makes too much sense and they just don't understand evolution well enough to explain it without looking idiotic.

Capitalizing names
by john.prestor injust a random thought here but does anyone else notice than when the name "elder" or "circuit overseer" appears in the organization's magazines and books they're always lower case even though they're proper nouns and should be elder and circuit overseer... but branch committee member, governing body helper, governing body member, they get to be capitalized.
another subtle indication of how the governing body and other high-ranking elites see themselves, i think.

That's a fair point, and I respect the fact that you know how the Baptist faith works. It's less subtle about the power dynamic and the status, but JWs kinda submerge it, it lurks below the surface like an alligator, hides in the implicit like a name you can't quite remember. Elders contact the 'service desk' at headquarters, you call them on the phone and that way you can talk about the child sex abuse allegation and you won't leave a paper trail. It's in Shepherd the Flock of God, I think. Do you have a PDF copy? PM me if you don't.

Emotional Moment...
by babygirl30 inyesterday i was looking to share a pic with a friend of mine, and i swore it was in my photo albums (i have 3).
so i start going through them, and i see so many jw pics!
i had a huge group of friends when i was 'in', and so there is just pic after pic of assemblies, dinners, game nights, rbc projects, my family and the house i grew up in, people from the hall, etc.
