London Protest 2018

well today marks the beginning and biggest day of our protest at the london excel.. we believe it's a record number at around 100 exjws at the front door.. we spoke to lots of jw's and one young man studying who has quit after talking to us.

we've been approached privately by jw's who thanked us for coming and the security at the event treated us very well.. if anyone wants to see some clips they are available on my channel the great apostate.. thanks to all for the support and love..

Instagram is huge among JW kids (it least it was 3 years ago) because they were warned off other social media sites like Facebook.

Instagram gave them tighter controls on who friended them and can see the information.

I am not sure whether JW kids would be brave enough to show any apostate stuff in their feed because word would soon spread, particularly as parents and other JW congregation members would be able to see the information. It wouldn't take long before the whistle was blown.

When I left, some were experimenting with Snapchat but that has gone mainstream too.

Of course, I am old and out of the loop now, so I am probably wrong lol

First time

good evening all, this is my first time posting.. been reading and following for two years.

my story will come soon.... but i want to say to all, thanks for all the meaningful, intellectual, honest, and insightful words!!

it’s been an interesting 48 years of service to an organization!

Welcome to the forum Deke.

Your length of service was very similar to mine.

Personally speaking, I felt guilt and shame about leaving initially, then sorrow because I was leaving my family and the only friends that I ever knew.

Then anger set in, thinking about my wasted life. I am in my late 50's with no qualifications and crap job and no pension. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to go to university and who knows what kind of job I would have now.

I am now at a stage of acceptance of my situation and a great sense of liberation (especially on a Saturday morning ....no more field ministry and on Sunday, which used to be totally taken up with meeting in morning, lunch at the hall then ministry in the afterrnoon. I have got my weekends back. YAY!! The novelty never wears off ha ha )

Despite all of that, I am determined never to be bitter. There were some good times and I had some very close friends who I loved dearly.

I hope that you enjoy your freedom.

The Children Act - Emma Thompson - advertised on ITV One - prime time.

as you probably know "the children act" is a film starring emma thompson as a high court judge deciding whether or not to transfuse a teen jw.

it is due to be on general release in the uk on august 24th 2018. september 14th usa.. its shortened trailer is being advertised in the uk on the biggest independent tv channel - namely itv - at prime time.

just seen it in advertisment breaks between 6pm and 7pm uk time.. thought you might like to know..

I have read the book. It is a good story but not authentic like the film Apostasy.

I'll still be going to see it.

Jw funerals

i recently posted that i found out my father is sick.

i have not found out any additional information from my family.

i’m kinda on an “as provided” basis with information.

I think that it all depends on the family.

I get excluded from EVERYTHING. I really am treated as if I am dead.

I know of others who really miss their disassociated or disfellowshipped family member who have more contact with their relatives than they really ought (according to JW rules) and so keep the family member informed.

Personally, I could not bear to attend any family event where I was treated as something so disgusting to them that they treat me worse than a piece of crap on their shoe.

I will NEVER tell them if I am dying and friends are given friends strict instructions NEVER to tell my JW family members. I would never give them the satisfaction of simply saying "thank you for telling us" then just getting back to their life as if nothing had happened.

Jehalapano, I have learnt a valuable lesson in the last 24 hours.

I realise that we have all been locked in the same cult for many years (in my case all my life) and how we deal with the freedom once we leave is entirely up to each us (for the first time in years) and should be respected.

I have a new found respect for people like Josephus who is using his experience for good and helping others.

They are obssessed with sex, tight pants and scantily clad advertising posters. They see sex even in the most innocent of places.

One elder in my hall never missed an opportunity to warn the sisters about wearing short skirts and skimpy tops (they actually didn't even dress like that) even if the talk was about something compleltey different, like evolution.

Every talk they give about this used to make the young ones snigger and used to alientate them even more.

At one time I used to think that this kind of protest was not very productive, and I don't think it was, a few years ago, but now I am sure its time has come !

Phizzy, I was exactly the same, but after looking at the evidence, it is very different from the days of old.

When I was younger we used to be terrified of apostates and would see this group of people, ranting and shouting and we would keep our heads down and get inside the safety of the convention as quickly as we could and that was our only experience of "apostates".

They were almost like the Boogy Man for JW kids.

Now, as i saw in the videos, the protests are peaceful, good natured, friendly and point to a safe place where people can look at more information about the cult if they want to.

The Internet makes it much easier to give a more credible and informative explanation of what they are doing, rather than a 2 minute rant from 'scary people' that I used to see when I was young.

I think that you are right....and I am sure that the time has now come for effective protesting.

Thanks to Josephus and my own research, my viewpoint now, is the complete opposite of what it was 24 hours ago.

Apostasy Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes ... Spot the JW LOL!

on rotten tomatoes, apostasy has 100% success from critics (very rarely that critics are unanimous in their approval of a film) and 97% from the audience.

i have loved reading the reviews as they are almost all ex jw's but there is one glaring review that is almost certainly from one active jw who is pleading that the film be banned, even though they haven't actually seen it (typical) and it made me laugh:.

I used to volunteeer at the conventions and was always appalled at the lengths that "security" went through to hide that fact that a known paedophile was right there int he midst of the audience.

Sometimes the abuser would comply and sit in an allocated place so "security" could keep an eye on them, but more often than not, they would give "security" the slip and disappear into the toilets etc.

A year never went by without some attempted abuser abduction on some child and yet it was NEVER reported.

It was sickenig.

I always used to let families know when there was a known abuser there. My conscience would not allow me to keep quiet and yet I was the one seen as a trouble maker!!!

Thanks for update Joephus. I am glad that you have seen some results after all the work you have put in. Hopefully some enquiring JW minds will see that you are a good guy and are there to help them get out of the zombiefied bubble of a world that they are in.
