A crisis of scientific reproducability
by Outahere inhttps://www.nature.com/news/1-500-scientists-lift-the-lid-on-reproducibility-1.19970.
more than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, and more than half have failed to reproduce their own experiments.
i didn't know it was so widespread...but it's a big problem in biology/medicine..

Here is an interesting article on bogus science.
I am fascinated by those whose lives have been devastated by a cult, who then run toward anything characterized as "science" and swallow the next idea with equal fevor and gullibility.
Real science is good stuff, it's just not done nearly as often as we would like and certainly is easily confused with bogus science by most.
In the 20th century, tobacco companies paid millions and receive peer reviewed papers showing scientifically how cigarette smoking was not linked to cancer. We are starting to see the same results oriented studies about marijuana smoking since its regional legalization. Before you comment on bogus science Perry...
...comment on the age of the Universe in light of the speed of light.
In light of the speed of light, Perry.
THE SPEED OF LIGHT.

You're too modest JeffT. What your father's work brought to us has saved a great many lives. I am a survivor of a blood cancer myself.
I fear the problem isn't from uncontrolled variables, by the way. At least not mostly. I fear the problem stems from human fallibility. We humans ruin everything.

change.org: Please sign a petition to California State Legislators - Please Introduce Draft Bill to Reform Clergy Privilege
by AndersonsInfo inhttps://www.change.org/p/california-state-legislators-please-introduce-draft-bill-to-reform-clergy-privilege?recruiter=855249424&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=share_email_responsive.
hon.
california state senators and assembly members please introduce draft bill (rn 1803892) to reform california's clergy "penitent communication" privilege statutes to align with appellate court decisions by february 16, 2018.. since 2018 is an election year, this bill will help voters become more informed about politicians' positions on changing societal and institutional cultures by reforming california statutes to prevent child abuse or child sexual abuse, or civil statute of limitation reform in california in 2019.. this bill is intended to increase public safety, prevent abuse survivors from being re-traumatized in religious disciplinary meetings, prevent religious leaders from using "undue influence" to manipulate individuals and discourage reporting of abuse and neglect, and reduce court costs passing judgment on overly broad interpretations of clergy "penitential communication" privilege that attempt to shield a religion or clergy from not fulfilling their duty to report abuse and neglect in california.. thank you,.

Yeah, I guess it's OK that 85% of NIH papers are not reproducible. It's just your tax dollars at work.

I suppose the reproducibility could be considered more or less of an issue depending on the field of science.
But when it's in supposedly highly controlled laboratory conditions, and when the results can often lead to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars (not to mention lives), that it truly becomes problematic.
The great majority of landmark cancer papers were found to be unreproducible by Amgen.
