North Koreans get free housing, free food, free medical care, free clothing, and they earn a small bit of money each month to spend however they want. Some people call the place a cult but why would anyone criticize their system? It's like Bethel.

The Korean Situation
by fulltimestudent inagainst a background of continued usa leaks threatening a 'surgical strike' on the dprk (north korea), a move that does not have complete support in the south, the north invoked 'charm' as it's next 'weapon.
here's how the republic of korea's (south korea), government owned news agency (arirang news) saw the north's charm offensive:.

Is the USA too big?
by Diogenesister infred deftone on another thread about the tragic events at m. stoneman douglas school:.
the us constitution wasn't written for 50 states either.
the country has gotten too big and i think the solution is fragmentation.

Yes the US is too big.
Clownifornia is making noises like it wants to break away. Might be a good thing for the rest of the country.

Is it a Gun Issue or a Mental Illness Issue or Both?
by minimus inwe have had another shooting.
many are blaming trump and the republicans and the nra.. is it because of guns that there are so many massacres or could it be that these killers are mental?.
do you think guns should be removed from our society so that these atrocities never occur again?

Another School Shooting: The Gun Violence/Mental Illness Debate Continues
by jp1692 inin the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.
it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?
my goodness.

These debates go off the rails because of lack of clear meaning. If by “gun control” you mean “keeping guns out of the hands of people who would like to shoot up schools or movie theatres, etc.”, then everyone is on board. Period. Everyone wants this.
The first thing they want to do when a bad person does something bad with a gun is try to take them away from the people who didn't do anything.
But as I mentioned in the other thread.
It isn't going to happen folks.

The NRA is relatively small potatoes anyway. Less than a million a year in contributions to candidates.
https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?id=d000000082
It's not a big lobby moneywise.
But it's funded by millions of small contributions (it has millions of members).
The NRA is probably the one best example out there of a group of citizens getting together and making sure their voices are heard and respected by people in office.
Activists just single out the NRA because they need a target.
As for the pols many won't get re-elected if they go and support a sweeping gun control bill.
Of course, over 90% of NRA money goes to the GOP.
It used to not be that way. The NRA is non-partisan. But it so happens that the great majority of pro 2nd-Amendment pols are in the GOP these days.
I am sure Republicans are hoping Democrats make this a campaign issue for November.
