They would mention the term "discipline" and the verse about "spare the rod and spoil the child." I know that, where I grew up, pretty much every parent understood this to mean that they had to use physical punishment in order to raise a child the right way. Which, for us, usually meant belts instead of rods. I suppose I am grateful that my mother didn't take it too literally...

Most children of Jehovah's Witnesses followers in Japan have been whipped, survey shows
by Rattigan350 inhttps://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/03/15/national/jehovahs-witnesses-whipping/.
the most cited reason was “napping or talking during congregations.” others included “answering back to parents” and “playing with a schoolmate.”.
some respondents said they have been suffering depression as a result of whipping.. “i still cannot forget the sight of children screaming after they were taken into a large room at a congregation when i was a child,” a 44-year-old victim said, stressing that jehovah’s witnesses should reflect on what followers have done.. in february, a group of lawyers started supporting those second-generation followers.. in a statement issued on march 1, the japanese branch of jehovah’s witness said it does not accept child abuse.. https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20230315/p2a/00m/0na/006000c.

Now that I think about it, the WTS could shut him down by telling him that if he has a problem with their teachings and coverups, he needs to explain why he doesn't have a problem with other religious organization's teachings and coverups.

How many still getting boosters?
by ExBethelitenowPIMA ineither you think the governing body was correct giving direction to be fully vaccinated and do you will keep getting the boosters, or.... if you don’t think the boosters are safe and you decide not to keep getting them then you are admitting that the direction was wrong.. if the direction was indeed harming brothers and sister who kept going to get these injections because of the covid updates then this is a huge wake up call?.
how could this direction from the gb who are i doubt jehovah give such harmful direction?.

Correction to my post above, where I said "My doctor still recommends that I get the boosters, but he does insist." I meant to write that he does not insist. He'd rather I get them, but is not concerned that I have not gotten any of them after the initial shots.

As I understand it, the current model states that birds are dinosaurs. I'm not sure what that makes Archaeopteryx. Just another dinosaur?

LMsA: Why can’t he just make videos like everyone else does in their own home with minimal editing?
That is my view as well. He wants it to appear as if he needs to spend all of this money to make videos of a certain quality, but that doesn't make sense for several reasons.
For one, lots of YouTubers do just fine with a phone, a partial script, and some stock photos or video footage. Your expenses are reduced --sometimes drastically-- and as you go, you learn to improve the quality with just those items.
Second, as you learn, you are able to make small upgrades that significantly improve the product. A better camera, a decent microphone, a couple of extra lights, and a few items to spruce up the background. Now you have a "studio" without breaking the bank.
Third, from there the upgrades cost more but provide smaller incremental quality improvements. So you can hold off on them, or you can wait for a time when finances are good and purchase upgrades one at a time. And of course, you are getting better at scripting and talking without spending a dime.
None of those require a staff or a full-time schedule. Lots of YouTubers do this.
Fourth, his videos did not strike me as being of such high quality as to justify monthly pay for three people, including enough for him to support himself and his family. The quality is fine- I'm not saying they are bad. But it's a level of quality barely beyond that of someone making videos on a shoestring with a bit of effort and preparation.
And fifth- if his work is SOOOO important, why isn't he doing it regardless of his financial situation? He is threatening to either reduce his content output to a trickle or end it completely. Not because he won't make any money at all, but because he isn't making enough to 'run it like a business.' If he can't make a lot of money, he won't do this critically important work. He can take offense at people pointing this out all he wants, and ask why they don't make the same demand of others. But it still makes him look like a grifter, someone who is only an activist as long as it makes him a lot of money.
That's who he is.

Evans: "...if you insist on having a problem with the concept of someone being a professional anti-cult activist and not doing the work I do for free, I feel you ought to explain why you don't also have a problem with others who make a living from bad situations."
It continues to amaze me that he doesn't understand how bad this kind of stance makes him look. He tries to word it to put the onus on his critics, by saying that they are the ones who "have a problem" with him and not with other activists. Who says that his critics don't also have a problem with others who monetize their activism? What if their problem isn't with him making a bit of money from activism, but that he's a greedy asshole who mistreats others and seems to care more about his wallet than their needs?
Also, you have only to make a simple substitution to point out another problem with this approach:
"If you insist on having a problem with the concept of someone being an abusive spouse, I feel you ought to explain why you don't also have a problem with others who abuse their spouses."
The idea that you need to condemn everyone in order to condemn one person does not invalidate the accusation. It also means that, if someone does take the position he requests, they are now able to condemn him and he would have to answer to them, since they met his criteria. Is he okay with that?

I got the original shots, as my employer required it at the time. I haven't gotten any of the boosters, mostly because I'm lazy about it and am not worried. I did get COVID about eighteen months after the shots, and it zapped my energy for a bit less than two days and I was fine.
My doctor still recommends that I get the boosters, but he does insist and does not appear concerned that I haven't gotten any. He is the person I depend on, not the GB or the media, or random cranks on the web.

What is spiritual warfare.
by Hellothere inwhat is spiritual warfare to you?
i experienced a situation that i could clearly say was spiritual warfare.
but that was something i could only see years laters.

As I recall, the term "spiritual warfare" covered stuff like lying to authorities to protect fellow JWs. I think they intended it to mean that you could do stuff that ordinarily was a sin (lying, for example) but it would be okay if it was done to help the organization.

If you like some of King's work, his short story collections are enjoyable. More hits than misses, and if you don't like a story you can move on to the next one. Clive Barker's Books of Blood is also a good set of short stories. A very different (and much more polished, IMO) writing style than King's, but lots of intriguing ideas.
But short stories are not everyone's cup of tea, and King has often remarked that they're not nearly as popular as his novels. I tend to prefer short stories, so I have enjoyed his collections. Jerusalem's Lot, from the Night Shift collection, is one of my favorites. More Lovecraft than vampires, though.
