SeaBreeze: But the Governing Nannys say that JW kids get gifts all year long and are better off.
Oh, man, we used to use that excuse. 'We're not forced to buy presents once a year, we can buy them all year round!' We almost never bought presents for each other. The few presents I got as a kid were when my dad's family bought us Xmas presents.
'Don't celebrate Valentine's Day! We can express love for each other at any time' said the people who never showed any affection towards their spouses.
'Don't celebrate Thanksgiving! We can express thanks every day, not just once a year' they said, as they slaved over a turkey and sides. How often did they express thanks aside from the rote repetition of prayer? Pretty much never.
But also, happy holidays everyone.

Where is Tony?
by Athanasius inon february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

The grip that they have on people is very powerful, because there will be many like me- I did not come anywhere near anti-JW literature or websites until I was convinced I was out (which, in my case, is when I realized I did not believe in god). Once I allowed myself to look at information about the WTS, it was almost overwhelming.
It is much more difficult to shield people from that information today, since it is within easy reach and it's not easy to know who is reading 'apostate' information. Browse through a bit of JW history and you'll find more than enough info to show you that they are not what they claim to be. The amount of info (much of it from the WTS itself) is staggering. I think that most JWs are about an hour's worth of research from leaving, but it is very very difficult to defy the leadership and seek out this information.

What is worse: 1914 or Beard change
by Gorb inwhat is worse for jw's: changing the 1914 doctrine or allowing beards without the right to say what their opinion is?.

The change regarding beards can almost be made without explanation. They would have been better off just admitting it was a mistake and unnecessary. Considering some of the stuff they have gotten wrong, beards would be a minor issue.
Any change regarding 1914 needs a LOT of explanation. Especially after they doubled down with the overlapping generations crap. Although, if they adopt enough mainstream changes, maybe they'll be able to ease away from 1914? But that would require almost a complete remake of the religion.

Encouraging scriptures for the day
by Kosonen inhello my friends,.
here are some encouraging scriptures for the day:.
revelation 21:2 i also saw the holy city, new jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from god and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.. hebrews 11:10 for he (abraham) was awaiting the city having real foundations, whose designer and builder is god.. revelation 21:24 and the nations will walk by means of its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.. revelation 22:1 and he showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, flowing out from the throne of god and of the lamb 2 down the middle of its main street (of the holy city).

Kosonen: I send the "Daily Text" some other people too. I have even reduced the number of people I send this because of lack of time.
Most email applications allow you to create groups or lists of email addresses, so that you can send a message to as many people as you need without having to add them all individually. It's a massive time-saver once your mailing list grows beyond a handful of people.

Leathercrop, if we assume that something is eternal --that it has always existed-- then there is no start point. It exists forever into the past. If that seems incomprehensible, that's because it is. At least to us, anyway. I cannot comprehend it. The notion of there never being a starting point simply doesn't compute. And yet, here we are.
So, regardless of what we believe, that situation exists. Otherwise we must assume that either gods or universes can appear out of nowhere, out of nothing, at any time. Could this happen? Hey, one incomprehensible situation is just as good as any other! Of course, that could be tricky... do these gods or universes also poof out of existence spontaneously? Perhaps some of the gods of the past, which we assume to be made up, actually existed for a time! And maybe that's why Yahweh (presumably the most recent one) hasn't made direct contact with humanity for so long?
Of course, I'm just spitballing here. When things get weird enough, we can reach for more outlandish explanations. None of it necessarily gets us closer to the truth, they're just fun thought experiments.

Indeed. How long before JWs begin to realize that their religion is just Christianity with 50% less Christ?

Infinite regress is a problem under every scenario. An eternal universe would have literally taken forever to get us to this point. I just like the thought that god took forever to start, and that we can reason that out through simple inference.
