If I am not mistaken, the subsidies were upwards of $2 million per year. A pretty significant outlay for a relatively small religious denomination. If that number is correct, I can see why they'd be upset at losing their registration. I wonder if it is legal for them to funnel that money back to the HQ in the USA? Two million buys a lot of booze.

Joanie the Jehovah (sic) Witness Stripper
by Mum inon youtube, type "joanie the jehovah witness stripper" in the search bar.
several versions of the song will appear.
it's hilarious, and, apparently, based on a real life jw who was a neighbor of the song's writer..

ExB: They obviously got disfellowshipped but then they were posing with the revelation book showing it’s ‘grand climax at hand’
Now that made me LoL.

I won't harass the guy, it isn't something that would even cross my mind.
But I think that a good idea would be for anyone whose lives were affected adversely by WTS policies and practices to write him a polite and heartfelt letter, letting him know of their suffering.

Conscience Issues
by NotFormer inthought inspired by my post on tattoos: within the watchtower organisation, how many "conscience issues" actually are?
are people who actually do exercise their consciences in grey areas painting a target on their backs for the more hard-line dubs?
are they quietly avoided because " bad associations spoil useful habits"?

I don't think alcohol is a conscience matter. I think they're pretty clear on the guidance: it's okay to drink alcohol. It's not okay to get drunk.
Now, smoking is a firm no, as far as I understand.
I thought that there was a time when some of the blood issues were left to the individual's conscience? Not full blood transfusions, but fractions, like for hemophiliacs?
In CoC, Ray Franz mentioned the issues they had with trying to regulate intimacy for married couples. It became such a mess that they finally just relegated it to a conscience matter.

EasyPrompt: But me making fun of them and imitating their tactics isn't the way to fix it.
But it can be useful, as a way of holding up a mirror to a bully. Especially one who self-righteously insists that he is not a bully, only and always a victim.
Mockery isn't the primary focus of the topic, but the man invites it. See, he hasn't fallen, not in the way that you might intend to convey. If left alone, he would pick up the pieces and rebuild his channel and website using the exact same tactics that he did before. He may have suffered for being mean and abusive to others, but he hasn't learned from it. And he may never learn from it.
Left alone, he might have ruined Kim's life, the way he has ruined other lives and so many of the things he has touched. If an endless topic helps bring him low enough that he can't do that anymore, then a bit (or a bunch, *winks at Toblerone5*) of added mockery at his expense is not something to worry much about. IMO, of course.

Can they still have the ceremony? In the USA, you can get married without a ceremony, just by signing legal documents. The ceremony can be just that, a bit of pomp and circumstance to celebrate the union. They could even exchange vows, though those wouldn't be legally binding. Couldn't they do all of that, even now?

Toblerone5: Is that in USD ? Pound ?
I converted the Euro totals into US dollars for the $115k.
Edit: it was based on the average exchange rate in 2022.

Am I reading that right? In 2022, his company had income of 82,127.55 Euro, but an operating loss of 27,560.69 Euro? So his expenses for the year were 109,688.24 Euro, or around $115,556.56?
That is why he spoke of needing to reach certain supporter milestones, then. It looks as though he had gotten used to income north of 150,000 Euro and did not adjust his spending when his income slipped. Might have been a good idea to save and invest during the good times, instead of traveling and

Customers being frozen out of their bank accounts for political views is a very worrying trend ...
by LoveUniHateExams inyeah, so i know nigel farage is a bit of an abrasive twat.. he no doubt holds views that other people disagree with.. but that doesn't mean his bank can just tell him to sod off and freeze his accounts.. such a thing might go on in commie china or authoritarian russia.
no doubt hitler closed lots of jewish people's accounts in nazi germany, too.. but the fact that it is happening here, in the yew-kay, is pretty chilling when you consider this country is supposed to champion freedoms, including the one to hold and express varying political views.. this seems to be part of a trend to delegitimise and cancel people who hold certain views.. i remember looking at a yt video of richard dawkins questioning muslim journalist mehdi hassan about his belief in flying horses and muhammad.
all fair analysis and criticism by dawkins until he suggested that hassan shouldn't be a journalist because of his beliefs.

The dangerous part of this behavior is that it assumes that one particular ideology will be dominant and able to take advantage of any changes in society, especially in laws and regulations. People who promote this sort of attitude, where they feel it is okay to bend the rules (or ignore them, or rewrite them) in order to safeguard society, often help usher in a period of repression and control that is led by someone else. Someone whose ideals may not align with those of their enablers, and which might even be in opposition.
This person, who thought it was okay to freeze the assets of someone she dislikes, may find herself wondering what happened, when this same action is used against her. And it might not be by those she perceives to be the political 'bad guys.' The people who rose to power by telling her what she wanted to hear will not be so generous once they have the power they want and no longer need her support.
