  Cult or High Control Group?

  i see this phrase a lot: "the indication of a cult is what happens when you leave.

  " i'm not sure where that originated, but it is a faulty categorization.

  "cult" is almost always used in a derogatory way.

  It is true that they do not promote the adulation of one individual human leader, but they hold up the group (the governing body) as the conduit through which Jehovah leads his people, by virtue of his holy spirit. The rank and file are expected to treat the words that come from the group as if they are from god. And this holds even if they make doctrinal changes later on, which can invalidate previous expressions.

  I agree that they are high-control, but they do seem to have features that remind people of cults.

  Thisismein1972: was forced out, hence the branch rep being at his judicial, and Lloyd trying to blackmail him.

  I don't believe that the meeting went anything like he described. It's a nice story for his supporters and a way to promote himself as a big shot to them. And I'm even willing to believe that he tried to threaten to destroy the WTS presence in Croatia, though I don't think he's that delusional. He would not want to risk having them laugh in his face. He certainly had to know that they wouldn't be concerned in the least with his threats to take down the org in a place where he didn't speak the language, didn't know many people, and was probably already disliked in his own home.

  And even though you know it is how he will react, it's still a bit of a surprise to see how lacking in self-awareness Evans is. The guy who spent so much time judging and making fun of the WTS and governing body members suddenly thinks that people shouldn't be too quick to judge those they don't have shared experiences with.

  Makes that Jaracz video seem a bit creepy now, doesn't it?

  He did it in those letters to Dijana as well. Told her she doesn't know enough about psychology to analyze him, in the same letters where he was explaining her motivations and mindset to her. It's like he doesn't review what he writes, or he sees it through a distorted lens.

  It is good to see people pointing out that he made a decision/choice, not a mistake. People use the word "mistake" to take the edge off of bad behavior. But there is a big difference between doing something by mistake and deciding on a deliberate course of action.

  Misspelling your name on a form is a mistake. Putting salt in your coffee when you meant to use sugar is a mistake. Visiting prostitutes for years behind your wife's back is NOT a mistake. Being an obnoxious jerk to people is NOT a mistake. Those are revelatory behaviors. His livestream was a mistake. Thinking he could bully Kim into silence was a mistake. Being a greedy douchebag is NOT a mistake. Sexting women behind his wife's back is NOT a mistake. With enough examples, I think we can make the point clear.
