Why do Catholics pray to Mary/saints?

a very good friend of many years told me that he prays to mary and makes requests.

i didn't try to discuss/debate the subject - his choice - but wondered how catholics would view these scriptures: .

(john 14:6) jesus answered, “i am the way and the truth and the life.

Jehovah's Witnesses no longer count time. How is this news affecting moral and meeting attendance at local congregations?

no more watchtower and awake mags every 2 weeks to place.

no private home book studies.

no more "essential" spiritual food meals 5x a week.

There should be some interesting conversations if they start asking each other how many hours they did the past month. Everyone will try to stretch that 15 minutes of talking with a neighbor to 10 or 20 hours of time spent trying desperately to convert people.

I knew a guy who said his parents were "Marianites." Apparently it was a Catholic sect that focused particularly on worshipping her? I was a JW at the time, so I just kind of saw it as another facet of false religion (oh, if only I'd known at the time).

If I was still in, I assume I'd have a muted reaction around the other JWs. But I'd be feeling pretty good about the new arrangement. I think a lot of them will continue to meet up for field service, but those numbers will dwindle and eventually they might make it a voluntary thing- why bother with door-to-door when you can reach out to anyone and get that all-important checkbox filled out for the month?

The WTS views the husband as the head of the household, in the same way that Christ is the head of the church. While he is expected to be kind, loving and considerate, he is also the unquestioned authority in the household. And his wife is expected to abide by that, lest she displease Jehovah.

If you were to design a new religion?

what the jw sect has become and is slowly becoming is far more near what i thought could be a good religion based on the bible.. no more counting hours and no more blindly following direction now they admit they are not inspired.. i would like to design a new sect inside the jws.

it has to be kept secret because the elders would not like it.. this new sect involves giving a tick every month or so saying you are still kindof active talking about the bible.. going to meetings occasionally and attending on zoom sometimes.

very rarely go to ministry groups but don’t ever do first call, just say you are doing street work and have a nice walk somewhere maybe the shops or the park.

A religion based on the Bible wouldn't be very new.

But if we were to design a new religion, I guess the idea would be to figure out what would serve humanity as a whole, instead of the smaller regional societies where most religions were born.

Encourage curiosity and inquiry. Promote learning and education. Encourage critical thinking and use of reason and logic. Promote generosity and the health of the community.

Condemn divisive and demeaning language. Condemn violence. Expect explanations instead of justifications. Discourage fallacious thinking.

I think those are useful as a starting framework.
