old habits die hard...and quite often in my comments i will refer to the borg as the 'truth'.
does anyone know of any other churches that refer to their own particular church or religion as the 'truth'??
also, does anyone know how it originated...all my life i have used the term...comments like 'how long have u been in the truth?
I just assumed that every religion saw itself that way; I wasn't aware that it was a trait mostly unique to JWs. But I also cannot recall any non-JWs doing it. I guess it gets mixed up with phrases like "you think you have the truth, but you do not." I don't know when that began, though it is the kind of thing that Rutherford would have liked. A way to differentiate themselves while also poking everyone else in the eye.
forgive the insensitivity of this but does the wt imagine the "resurrected" bodies of the dead will have useless genitalia?
or will the humans 2.0 have the smooth appearance of a ken doll or the nipple-less breasts of a barbie.
any breasts at all?
The impression I got (and this has been years, so I may not be remembering accurately) is that Jesus would rule during the thousand year period after Armaggedon, during which time humanity would achieve perfection. At the end of it, Satan is let loose for a short time and accounts are finally settled. Then Jesus would relinquish the throne to Jehovah.
What happens to Jesus after this? I don't think that was ever specified. But it is hard to imagine that he takes any meaningful role after that. He would be like one of the 144,000 at that point.
this is just one of several sore subjects for me concerning growing up in the toxic cult known as jehovah's witnesses.
health care.
specifically, dentistry.
I think that feeling of wasted potential is often the worst part of it. There are so many examples, and some of them are heartbreaking, like the folks who were too old to have kids when they finally got out, and realized that they would never have children or grandchildren. It's awful.
I was kind of lucky, in that an opportunity in IT opened up for me just as I was coming to terms with the idea that I wouldn't be able to pursue a career as a comic book or fantasy artist. I was able to build a real career and am working towards a decent retirement, where I can draw and paint to my heart's content and not worry about pricing dog food for dinner.
My mother wasn't as lucky, she has remained a diehard PIMI and has spent 50+ years waiting for the end. She passed up a career as a nurse, and was smart enough to have done any number of things. But instead she has sat and waited for the end. What good would it do her to wake up in her mid-80s? All she has left, for the past 20ish years, is The New System. Everything that she could have accomplished? Too late. The clock did not run out on the world. It ran out on her.
There are so many stories like that.
breaking news | highlights of 2023 worldwide service year report.
on november 15, 2023, the service committee of the governing body shared highlights of the 2023 worldwide service year report with the bethel family.
the following exciting increases were announced: baptisms: during the 2023 service year, 269,517 persons were baptized.
Numbers of this type rarely grow or shrink in a constant direction. After a few years of suppressed growth or possibly even decline, a period of growth isn't out of the ordinary. I'm curious to see what effect the recent changes in doctrine/policy will have over the next few years.
found this on fb from the recent losch talk.
time for a new business model?.
.
If they do it in cash, it becomes easier to see just how much is being requested of them.
Say you have a JW who earns a modest salary, like $36,000 per year. Ten percent of that is $3,600. Or $300 per month. If you're more middle-class, you might need to donate twice as much to meet the standard. How many JWs will want to do that? How many are even able to?
his 1914 predictions failed...but did he succumb to depression as a result?.
Rutherford was something of a schemer. I doubt Russell would have ever caught on to his ambitions. No doubt he played the loyal stooge who was just happy to serve, until the opportunity to take over presented itself.
Something tells me that Russell would not have recognized the version of Rutherford who took over. Aside, perhaps, from the penchant for booze.

He has always had an outsized opinion of himself and his influence. Remember that he claims to have used this same tactic with his judicial committee, threatening to take on the WTS in Croatia if they didn't agree to a deal with him. I am guessing that the elders --when they finally stopped laughing-- informed him that they wouldn't agree to his terms. Shockingly, Evans somehow failed to dismantle the JW organization in Croatia.

He always minimizes the severity of his own wrongdoing. This was his comment on the CofC issue:
Note that he mocks Debra Dysktra, claiming that her cease-and-desist letter "probably cost more to write and send than the total value of the bootleg books." Funny... didn't he get someone's video copyright-struck recently? Oh, right... copyright matters when it benefits him.
are the governing body really in charge or are they just a figurehead with the real power being behind the curtain .
The WTS is a chameleon. I think they misunderstood Paul at 1 Corinthians 9:20-22.
