I'm determined to spend some time with you amazing folks...
"...because as you know, I don't ever seem to have any time to myself. It's just work, work, and more work, I can barely stand it! So I'll pencil you all in for a short Zoom call and then I need to see about taking a short 'mental health break' right afterwards.
Speaking of which, are any of you fine people feeling a bit generous this holiday season?"

? Question for EX-JW grandfathers. What life advice would you give to your grandchildren and your younger self. ?
by Balaamsass2 ini read an interesting interview with billionaire warren buffet's sidekick, billionaire charlie munger.
good read, this grandpa agrees 1000% with his advice.
i wish i had learned earlier to realize almost everyone lies...(sometimes to themselves) but especially, all politicians and religious leaders.. what advice would you as a grandparent add?".

Learn to plan, and get into the habit of making plans.
A lot of life advice is tricky, because there are things we will only learn through experience, sometimes painful experience. And we cannot plan our whole lives because life is all about the unexpected moments, the ones we are not prepared for. But being prepared is a bit of simple advice that can be understood from the start, can be easily demonstrated, and forms a very useful lifelong habit.

Are Atheists Hypocritical in Celebrating Christmas?
by Sea Breeze inrichard dawkins revealed that he celebrates christmas on radio four's today programme.. here is is quoted as saying: .
'i am perfectly happy on christmas day to say merry christmas to everybody,' dawkins said.
'i might sing christmas carols - once i was privileged to be invited to kings college, cambridge, for their christmas carols and loved it.

When I was a JW, I would never have taken part in any non-Christian observance (and frankly, as a JW I never took part in many Christian observances). To me, it would have been testing Jehovah and possibly stumbling non-JWs.
Not being religious, I don't feel that restriction or concern. I don't seek out religious observances (old non-habits die hard!) but I don't feel uncomfortable around them anymore.

SeaBreeze: But the Governing Nannys say that JW kids get gifts all year long and are better off.
Oh, man, we used to use that excuse. 'We're not forced to buy presents once a year, we can buy them all year round!' We almost never bought presents for each other. The few presents I got as a kid were when my dad's family bought us Xmas presents.
'Don't celebrate Valentine's Day! We can express love for each other at any time' said the people who never showed any affection towards their spouses.
'Don't celebrate Thanksgiving! We can express thanks every day, not just once a year' they said, as they slaved over a turkey and sides. How often did they express thanks aside from the rote repetition of prayer? Pretty much never.
But also, happy holidays everyone.

Where is Tony?
by Athanasius inon february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

The grip that they have on people is very powerful, because there will be many like me- I did not come anywhere near anti-JW literature or websites until I was convinced I was out (which, in my case, is when I realized I did not believe in god). Once I allowed myself to look at information about the WTS, it was almost overwhelming.
It is much more difficult to shield people from that information today, since it is within easy reach and it's not easy to know who is reading 'apostate' information. Browse through a bit of JW history and you'll find more than enough info to show you that they are not what they claim to be. The amount of info (much of it from the WTS itself) is staggering. I think that most JWs are about an hour's worth of research from leaving, but it is very very difficult to defy the leadership and seek out this information.

What is worse: 1914 or Beard change
by Gorb inwhat is worse for jw's: changing the 1914 doctrine or allowing beards without the right to say what their opinion is?.

The change regarding beards can almost be made without explanation. They would have been better off just admitting it was a mistake and unnecessary. Considering some of the stuff they have gotten wrong, beards would be a minor issue.
Any change regarding 1914 needs a LOT of explanation. Especially after they doubled down with the overlapping generations crap. Although, if they adopt enough mainstream changes, maybe they'll be able to ease away from 1914? But that would require almost a complete remake of the religion.
