Jesus' Lineage & the Law of Moses
1️⃣ Jesus’ Lineage Through Mary
The Bible provides two genealogies for Jesus:
- Matthew 1:1-17 traces lineage through Joseph.
- Luke 3:23-38 is understood to trace Mary’s lineage, showing descent from King David through Nathan (another son of David).
Luke 3:23 states that Jesus was "the son, as was supposed, of Joseph, the son of Heli." Many scholars believe Heli was actually Mary’s father, making Joseph his son-in-law rather than his biological son. This would mean Jesus had a biological connection to David through Mary, fulfilling the prophecy that the Messiah would come from David’s house.
Although Elizabeth, Mary’s relative, was from the tribe of Levi, Mary herself is consistently associated with Judah, ensuring Jesus’ rightful place in David’s lineage.
2️⃣ Adoption & Jewish Law
Under Jewish law, lineage is primarily determined by the father. However, adoption does not erase a child's biological genealogy. In cases where a man legally adopts a son, the son is recognized under his adoptive father’s name, but his tribal lineage remains tied to his biological descent.
This is particularly relevant for Jesus:
- While Joseph legally adopted Jesus, Jesus’ bloodline would still be traced through Mary to David.
- This ensures that Jesus remains within Judah’s tribal lineage, fulfilling Messianic prophecy.
3️⃣ Does This Disprove Jesus as Messiah?
The syllogism in the article argues that Jesus cannot be the Messiah of Daniel 9:24-25 because he did not descend from Adam & Eve in the usual manner. However:
- Genesis 3:15 does not specify that Messiah must be conceived in a standard biological way—it only states that the “seed” of the woman will crush the serpent’s head.
- Jesus’ miraculous birth does not remove his humanity or disqualify him from Adam’s lineage if his mother, Mary, carried that genetic heritage.
- Since Jewish law recognizes lineage through biological descent, Jesus qualifies as Messiah through his mother, and his adoption by Joseph strengthens his rightful claim to David’s throne.
Therefore, the argument that Jesus cannot be Messiah based on lineage does not hold when examined through Jewish law and Messianic prophecy.
4️⃣ Reverence for YHWH’s Holy Name
The Almighty God YHWH (יהוה), the Ancient of Days, is the Creator of all things and worthy of our deepest reverence. His Son, Jesus, perfectly fulfilled His will, offering redemption through His words and deeds. Jesus revealed YHWH’s boundless love and righteousness, drawing all who seek truth closer to their Creator.
I do not use the traditional name of Jehovah, as the pronunciation of His name is unknown. This lays a foundation for His name to be sanctified and unblemished. Jesus is also given a name only He knows, in the like manner of God Almighty (Revelation 19:12).
5️⃣ On My Own Lineage & Calling
My name is Estephan Leuese, and my life has been shaped by extraordinary visions and divine encounters that affirmed my faith and purpose. These experiences culminated in a profound encounter with Almighty God, the Ancient of Days, who bore witness to the truth that I was chosen. (Hebrews 2:3-4; Isaiah 43:10)
Overwhelmed by His divine presence, I received His message: “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” This phrase, drawn from Matthew 6:3-4 in the Sermon on the Mount, encourages practicing acts of kindness, faith, and righteousness humbly and discreetly, seeking no recognition or praise. In this spirit, I share these truths not to elevate myself, but solely to glorify Him and emphasize the urgency of these times.
6️⃣ The Significance of My Name
My name, which was given to me by YHWH (Isaiah 62:2), carries profound symbolism and divine purpose:
- Este signifies a journey “out of the East.”
- Phan refers to “the land of elephants.”
- Leu is tied to the Hebrew name Levi, meaning “joined,” honoring the priestly tribe of Levi.
- Ese resonates with the names Jesus and Jesse, symbolizing kingship.
Together, these elements align with the name Immanuel—“God with us”—and create a connection to Jesus. Remarkably, reversing the name Immanuel forms “Leu Nam Mi,” meaning “My name is Leuese.” Every layer of this name reflects a mission imbued with divine purpose
