"we do sound like a cult..." so in the last few conversations i have had with my still deeply in friend she has mentioned this a couple times when lamenting things that don't seem right.

she has a relative that left and is telling everyone jw's are a cult.

she is very defensive and deeply disturbed by this accusation.

i think there's a level of cognitive dissonance that is present within many that leave over the shunning thing.

i hear so many tales of people that leave and think that their family will talk to them.

sure, that does happen, but it's by far the minority.

Agreed. It's best to have realistic expectations and be prepared for the worst. Then, if you aren't shunned, it will be a pleasant surprise.

i couldn't stand the dishonesty so when my sister went out of town on a trip i told my parents that i no longer wanted to be a jw.

when my sister got back and i told her she was so angry, said she really wanted to slap me, then she ran off sobbing, a few minutes later she deposited every gift i ever gave her in front of my door.. my entire family has turned against me.

Saethydd: I have a long road ahead of me to reach a happy life, and I doubt these scars will ever fully heal, but now at least I can begin to get on with my life.

How Do You Get Most of Your News?

i read that many people get their news from facebook.

i look online mostly at fox news and the drudge report.

very seldom do i look at cnn.😎.

Triangulate.

Deliberately listen to/read/watch news sources with biases different than your own. Otherwise you might as well just keep reading the WT & Awake! and watching JW TV as your news source.

Sigh ... Did I say that? No, I did not.

A better question is this: Why would you accuse another person of harboring beliefs which they have never expressed?

You reveal your unreasonableness with a inflammatory question like the one you posted.

Go back and reread what I wrote and you'll see that I never said anything of the kind. Only a fool accuses someone of thinking or believing things they never said. There is absolutely no point in talking to people like you as you are clearly unable to understand plain, clear language.

Perhaps you are projecting your own hatred. I don't know. What I do know is that you are incapable of calm, rational discourse. Reactionary responses like yours are actually the cause of most of the problems in the world.

You probably won't get it. I am responding for the benefit of others so that no one mistakenly assumes the wrong thing were I fail to respond.

For the record, what I hate is this: simple-minded, knee-jerk responses that lack thoughtfulness and that seem designed to escalate the situation. That is not a racial or ethic thing. It's a stupid thing. You light a fire, throw gasoline on it and then accuse others of starting a conflagration when in fact it was all you, only you.
