More important than what "JW friends and relatives" think, how is YOUR relationship with your child now?

Land of the living dead
by hoser inone of my children got disfellowshipped recently.
i was worried about that some of my jw friends and jw relatives would mention it to me and it would make for awkward conversation as i am glad that he is out.
i went to a jw family gathering.

Unsure: I answered this on page 6
Not really. You might think you did, but you didn't.
LisaRose asked, "What is it you think you think you need to be saved from?"
And you responded by writing:
From the times, like all humans where I'm a less then a stellar person. All humans are at times ungrateful, angry, greedy, unkind, disloyal, dishonest etc. Just like I would ask a family member for forgiveness for showing those qualities towards them, I would ask forgiveness to God.
LisaRose asked you about being "saved," but you answered about forgiveness. They may be related, but those are not the same thing.
So again, the very first thing you wrote in your OP was, "Do I have to believe in Jesus to be saved?"
My question is: From what is it that you think you have to be saved?

Unsure: If Christianity was true, is there a chance I could be saved even if I at times doubted Jesus or things in the Bible?
The idea of needing to be "saved" is a distinctly Christian teaching, at least how you are framing the question. Other religions all have concepts of you needing to belong to be good with god; that's how they keep membership.
But personal salvation is a Christian teaching. Without in mind, look again at your question and you should see that it's self-referential and somewhat circular.
If Christianity is true, then you need to be a Christian. If it is not, then you don't.

Hooberus: Why does he need to answer it without using the Bible?
Well that's the point. You can't.
When you're so indoctrinated that you don't even get that ...
The Bible is an obstacle to knowledge, not a source for it. The Bible offers the ignorant, limited world view of bronze and Iron Age agrarian people.
It's not exactly relevant for our 21st Century except perhaps for historical, anthropological perspective.

Unsure: That passage mentions A way to be saved but doesn't say it is the ONLY way
Ok, for the third time: What makes you think you need to be "saved"?
Can you answer that without using the Bible and specifically without using a WT spin on it?
Why do you keep avoiding this question?

Thank you Lisa Rose, I asked that same question--more or less--on page 2 of this thread. Still waiting for a response from the OP on that one!

Unsure: this is a group of like minded individuals
Well that is most certainly NOT true.
Probably the only thing we all agree on is that JWs do not have "the Truth."
After that, we're all trying to figure it out for ourselves, and that's the beautiful thing. You can disagree here, question, debate, change your mind.
You can't do any of those things in the Kingdom Hall.

Unsure: ... and who once went through the same mental gymnastics I'm going through right now after experiencing the same thing
This is an important point. After losing our religion it is only natural to question our beliefs. I call it the "what the heck do I believe now" stage of the post-cult experience.
It's a process and it takes time and hard work. One of the things about religions is that they provide easy, ready-made answers. Now you have to figure these things out for yourself, including accepting that there are some things for which you may never know the answer.
But don't worry, you'll be fine.

Unsure: I'm not basing my life on that.
Well that's good!
Unsure: I can only reference my own experiences and being a JW was one of them.
Understood. It's the same for me as with most of us here on this forum.
Unsure: All I'm saying is that my view of a loving God is one who accepts those who may not even believe in them.
Then you're golden. You've nothing to worry about. Problem solved.

Did a current or ex-JW help you to awaken?
by TweetieBird inwas there something that was said to you that got the wheel turning in your brain, that caused you to start waking up to ttatt, either by a jw or ex-jw that you didn't know was awake?
i'm trying to think of things i can say or ask of my current family members still in that may help them to start seeing the real truth about the organization.
they think we're still in..

Mentalclarity: I don't want to be that crazy exjw that they'll automatically dismiss because I'm always trying to prove them wrong.
Great point to keep in mind, which is particularly ironic since JWs are always trying to prove everyone else wrong!
