Was there really a specific request for money in this week's meeting?
by stuckinarut2 ini have seen a few comments about this week's meeting.. was there actually a part that specified an actual per-publisher amount that should be donated regularly?.
can this be confirmed please?.
i truly cant believe just how brazen the society seems to be getting - and how desperate they are!.

Why the verb shun is missing from the JW lexicon
by cognisonance inso my parents when i confronted them about how unhappy i am at them shunning me, responded by saying: "you keep using the word shunning, we're not shunning you.
"i am a bit confused how they can say that.
i'm an ex-jw and an atheist.

Q: Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Shun Former Members of Their Religion?
A: Of course they do, they just lie about it—even to themselves.
Those who were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses but no longer preach to others, perhaps even drifting away from association with fellow believers, are not shunned. In fact, we reach out to them and try to rekindle their spiritual interest.

So, BBW I know what Nietzsche thought-having read many of his works for myself.
I'm curious about what YOU think. Care to express your thoughts? Or are you just going to do another one of your famous "drive-by" cut-and-paste postings of someone else's ideas.
Do you even have any of your OWN thoughts or do you always just borrow someone else's?

Oh the irony:
Under [propaganda's] influence, says one scholar, men and women have been “quite easily led into the most preposterously dangerous behaviour”—such as ‘genocide, war, racist hysteria, religious intolerance and many other forms of irrational behaviour.’—Easily Led—A History of Propaganda. [Emphasis added]

This series of articles from the June 22, 2002 Awake! is actually very informative on the subject of propaganda. It was after I read these that I realized that the writer's of the WTBTS publications know exactly what they are doing and are deliberately manipulative:

Coping With Parents' Becoming Jehovah's Witnesses
by DNCall inmy sister recently wrote a short piece on the impact of our parents' becoming jehovah's witnesses in the 1950s.
she was a teenager at the time.
what is so striking and disturbing is that the same predicament faces so many teenagers to this day.

Thanks DNCall for sharing this story. I'm glad it had a happy ending for your sister despite the challenges she endured her last years of high school.
Hopefully your sister's experience can be encouraging to others enduring a similar situation.
The bad news is that for minors whose parents join the religion when they are younger, the time until their emancipation, liberation and freedom can be too long--especially for those that are born in to the religion and know nothing else.

Special Talks now via video
by AverageJoe1 intired of listening to your local elders giving the "special" talk ever year after the memorial?
well don't worry, as of next year we will be spicing things up for your enjoyment.. not only will we be having the talk before the memorial (i know, wild huh), but we will be treating you to the talk via video starring our famous speakers from bethel so you can see how a talk should be given (after all bethel does boast the best speakers in any country, right?!).
here's a copy of the text from our latest letter as i'm sure that with so much excitement you won't believe it at first!.

Observe how the speaker applies some of the teaching methods that will be discussed in the Kingdom Ministry School for the 2018 service year.
How in the world is anyone supposed to observe how something will be done next year?
Idiots!

Saying hello for first time
by pimojw ini have been sneakily looking at this forum, almost every day, ever since it began!
it has taken me till now to actually register and contribute.
(actually i did register with a different name in the beginning but never commented).. i am a pimo elder with a fairly long history of senior "positions" in the organization.

pimojw: its really difficult to know what to say without giving away my identity.
Welcome!
Your concerns are understood. But it might help to realize that there are literally so many people that come here with almost exactly the same story that your identity is fairly safe-unless you post your actual name!
Actually, with the notable exception that I would never use the word "whilst" in a sentence, your OP would have perfectly fit me when I first came here ... and about 10,000 or more pimo JWs!
