I’m keeping my digital copy. The GB can go pound sand for all I care.

New Textbook For Elders
by Lost in the fog ini have to say that i found item 3 on the above page raised questions in my mind.
if an elder is deleted presumably for wrongdoing the hard copy text book is taken off him and destroyed.
but who ensures that any electronic copies of the book in his possession are deleted?

As always: thanks!
I don’t even read them, but I like that we can have them—often before the elders—just because it must drive the control freaks on the Governing Body crazy!

It's time
by Gorbatchov inwe got a call from close jw family, that it is now time to visit the kingdom hall again because armagedon is a question of a few months.
now it will happen in a very close time, the brothers say so, was the message.. i had earlier the feeling that jw's think the time has arrived because what they say and what they do, work like mad men with their chart every weekend.. so the expetations are high.. gorby's wife replied "how do you know, you should not know day and hour".
stay alert was the reaction.. so sad and so stupid.. g. .

Confidential
by john.prestor ini wanted to share a short story from my time studying that congregation (not studying with) where the elder told me 5 years to armageddon i thought some posters might enjoy, little mid-week chuckle that's what i'm going for here.. so this one elder in particular came across like he saw himself as a 'spiritual giant' (weird term cause i thought the nephilim caused all the problems before the flood but thats how jws talk about 'spiritual' people so hey, when in rome).
it just came across in how he held himself and the kinda cold, superior way he looked at you... well, until one sunday at least.. so i came into the hall for the sunday service and i saw him strutting around by the 'information board' (not bulletin board, god forbid) with a manilla folder he'd scrawled confidential across enormously in black sharpy.
he posted a couple letters and then strut into the sanctuary, where he got on stage to read for the watchtower study.

Another day, another run-in
by john.prestor inso a couple days ago i ran into a colleague of mine coming back from the mall, let's call her lianne for the story.
we started talking about our research and when lianne asked about what i'm working on these days i told her about a paper i'm drafting where i argue the culture of jehovah's witnesses is collectively narcissistic, which just means they (typically, most often) think they're special and that their faith is better than others, and i cite a lot of evidence to that effect, things witnesses said to me in conversation, videos i watched on youtube of antiwitnessing, study articles and book chapters, things i heard cos say ("this is the greatest organization in the universe") so a lot of data from a lot of different places that really drives the point home and shows i didn't just invent this after some cranky old man went on a rant one day in when they commented in the watchtower study or something.
lianne seemed interested, i kept it brief, but i noticed this older woman across the aisle staring at me, not glaring, just sorta staring at me blankly or almost in surprise, and lianne and i moved on to another topic for a couple more minutes and then went back to reading our books, we each had one on us and put it down to chitchat for a few minutes, it was nice running into someone i knew, i got the same vibe from her.. after i read a few pages the older woman got my attention politely and said something like, i wanted to tell you that i'm one of jehovah's witnesses (i wondered that when she started staring at me) and i don't agree with what you said, and i'm wondering where you got your information.

Interesting experience. Yeah, JWs are notoriously dishonest about a lot of things when it comes to their beliefs and policies. You should know that most JWs lie to themselves about these things too -- the cognitive dissonance is too great to deal head on with all of the contradictions and inconsistencies of WT "theology."
Thanks for sharing.
Just an aside, it would have been a whole lot easier to follow your writing if you'd mentioned you were on a bus in the beginning of the story and not keep us guessing where this all occurred until the fifth paragraph.

I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing about your relationship.
