Name one POSITIVE thing you took from your experience as a Witness
by geodude ini was thinking about this at work the other day, and realized the one positive thing i can truly credit the jws with: .
i have no fear of public speaking.
i was a shy kid, fat, clumsy, with crooked glasses and worse teeth, who wore hand-me-downs in one of the wealthiest counties in all of america, who sat still while classmates got up to salute the flag or recite the pledge of allegiance.

Interesting thread.
A couple of years ago I attended an ICSA workshop for cult survivors. There were about 25 people in attendance. They were from a wide variety of cults, some I’d never heard of before.
The workshop facilitator, herself a former member of a psychological cult, asked us if there was anything good or positive about the cult experience.
Almost everyone had something they could say, but we all agreed the net negative effects far outweighed any benefits we got from it.
Here is a short list of positive things I learned from joining the JW cult, being in it for 25 years and then leaving:
- Public Speaking Skills - Learned in the cult. I was the TMS overseer for 14 years. As an elder for two decades I had countless opportunities to speak in front of groups large and small.
- Critical Thinking Ability - Learned when waking up and leaving the cult and honed in the decade since. I am now a high school science teacher with a Master’s in Education.
- The Psychology of Cult Dynamics - Self taught by trying to figure out how the hell I could have been duped and now what do I do to heal and recover from the traumatic experience of losing my family.
The first two items on my list are definitely valuable skills and abilities, but there are many ways they can be learned without joining a cult.
My life would have been just fine—better, no doubt—had I not had to learn the third.

"When someone is disfellowshipped from the religion, normal family relations continue, with the exception of spiritual fellowship.” - A Watchtower Lawyer
That's such bullshit!
I know countless people that aren't even disfellowshipped that are shunned by their family merely because they no longer go to the Kingdom Hall to attend meetings.
The leadership of this cult are all morally corrupt liars. They have no shame.
If you have to lie to defend your beliefs, then your beliefs are not worth defending!

I like this one from the ordinarily, ultra-pro-Trump Fox News:
- Fox News Poll: More than Half of Registered Voters polled say Senate should remove Trump - (January 19-22, 2020)
NOTE: This poll was Conducted January 19-22, 2020 under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with 1,005 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide who spoke with live interviewers on both landlines and cellphones. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points for all registered voters.

Would You Ever Go Back To The Witnesses??
by minimus inevery once in a while you hear people say they actually “miss” their old witness friends and or family.
some would have even stayed in the organization if they became a bit more liberal and open minded.

Circus Assembly Jaw Dropper
by Slidin Fast inthe co got on his hind legs for the public talk and repeated twice "tolerance promotes division".
then backed it up by saying that if one group march for some right, another group will march for the opposite.. so jws are intolerant and proud of it.
f@@@k me sideways.. may explain that the baptism tally was 0..

Cofty: As usual they confuse unity with uniformity.
I've come to believe the "confusion," or more appropriately conflation, is deliberate and intentional—at least from the top down.
A typical example is the constant repetition of the phrase: "Jehovah and his organization" Constantly putting these two separate ideas together causes a linked association in the minds of the believers. Thus, criticizing or disagreeing with "the organization" becomes tantamount or equivalent to criticizing or disagreeing with God.
Let's review: It's a cult!
Conflation: the merging of two or more sets of information, texts, ideas, etc. into one.

SBF: This is very interesting. I don’t recall seeing elders’ agendas or notes before. This is quite informative.
I wonder if I have any of my notes. I was an elder for 20 years. Most are mundane, but some might be "informative." I'll take a look.
FYI: Elders are not required to do anything in particular with their notes from regular elders' meetings, but they are not allowed to keep their notes from Judicial Meetings, which are required to be put in the sealed envelope with all documentation, (at least that's how it was from the late '80s until 2009).
