What religions/organizations aren't a cult?
by Jules Saturn inso we've already established that most religions can be classified as high control groups, we can name the wbts, church of scientology, lds, etc.
the list goes on and on.
but are there any religions or organizations that aren't classified as a high control group or aren't as bad as the ones i've just mentioned?

Using Illegal Means for Righteous Activism

how do you feel when people use illegal means while performing their activism to shed light on the watchtower.
there have been people who have illegally recorded conversations with elders and with branch offices or at meetings.

JD: I also did not intend to focus solely on the recording of conversations
Perhaps, but it was the very first issue you brought up in your OP.
JD: do you think that the ends always justify the means? [Bold addd]
Not always, but certainly sometimes. Again, the use of the world "always" shows that problematic black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking that I and others on this thread have repeatedly cautioned against.

Bumping it for John Davis who asked the question below on this thread:
JD: I wanted to get people's opinion on something. How do you feel when people use illegal means while performing their activism to shed light on the Watchtower? There have been people who have illegally recorded conversations with Elders and with Branch offices or at meetings. They have done this in states or countries that require two party consent to record conversations and where the penalties can be a criminal prosecution.

JD: the question still stands do you think it is right to break the law if you think it is for a good cause.
Well, you asked the question and you've gotten answers from quite a few members of this forum: eight pages worth. That's pretty good results.
The overwhelming response from members of this forum is: YES, most of us would, have and do break laws that we think are wrong, but we are willing to accept the consequences.
So why do you now keep pressing it? It's just getting annoying.

Listener: I feel the whole motive behind your post is to scare individuals off from recording their JC
Well if that's the case, then any lurkers that are having reservations should read this old thread:

You could tell them to mind their own f*@king business, but cult members don't like when others tell them what to do, (even though they have no problem doing just that themselves).

JD: JP are you saying that viewing the law as black and white is a sign of not being mentally healthy.
No, I am reporting the consensus of mental health professionals worldwide: a black and white worldview is not mentally healthy! It does not matter if it's about the law, customs, music ... whatever.
Rigid, inflexible thinking leads to mental health issues. It is positively correlated with depression, anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Londo: I grew up eating [PizzaHut] because that's what my parents got, but like the religion they raised me in, I didn't know anything else.
OMG, Londo! That is definitely child abuse. You poor soul. No wonder you're so messed up. I recommend intensive therapy ... after you meet your diet goals of course!

JD, one of the things I have learned is that being able to accept and deal with ambiguity and uncertainty is a sign of a mentally healthy worldview. In contrast, black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking associated with the blind acceptance and following of rules is in fact associated with mental illness.
You might want to give that some thought.
The world is a messy place.

JD: how can someone be proud of another person who broke the law.
How indeed.
Here are a few thoughts you might want to ponder, thoughts expressed by extraordinary people that thought deeply about this subject and lived their lives accordingly:
“One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
“An unjust law is itself a species of violence. Arrest for its breach is more so. Now the law of nonviolence says that violence should be resisted not by counter-violence but by nonviolence. This I do by breaking the law and by peacefully submitting to arrest and imprisonment.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
“When EVIL men make bad laws, righteous men disobey them." ― Pastor Butch Paugh
“Disobedience to rigid laws is a revolutionary act.” ― Lailah Gifty Akita
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” ― John F. Kennedy Jr.
I don't know about you, but I am very proud of all of these people, the inspiring words they spoke and the courageous actions they took. Countless others, mostly unknown and unsung individuals, have been inspired by their acts of integrity and courage and have followed suite. I know I have been one.
