kingdom halls are a hellish memory for me.
i grew up as a jehovah's witness from the age of 9 until i fought my way to freedom at age 18. i recall children as young as a year old being beaten repeatedly for not sitting still during services...some sessions, called assemblies, were 6 hours long and lasted for 3-5 days in succession.. my nephew was one of many who felt the literal sting of the watchtower's stance of "spare the rod, spoil the child.
I saw a baby that was 6 months old being taken to the back...his dad was a servant!
Instinct told us something was wrong but we were so obedient to the advice to not "use the rod".
Sadly I now have a few JW's on my facebook and I noticed one of them has as her likes: "If we love our children we will discipline them." Gave me the shivers when I read that...

david nelson passed away today.. many years ago (50's and 60's) i'd heard that the family had some ties to jw's in some fashion.
any truth to that one?.

as i said in my earlier post, my nephew took his own life yesterday evening.
my sister is a die-hard jw and this religion is her comfort more than ever right now, so she accepts everything they throw at her.
the elders will meet this evening and decide whether they will allow a memorial service at the kh.
Blues Brothers..isn't any suicide done by someone with mental problems? I don't think any "normal " person would consider it..

What does that mean? It means they still don't have their sh*t together...
They didn't have answers when my Hubby died in 2003 and they still don't...
You would think they would know what they teach by now..
When a girlfriend in the religion was having mental problems I called the brothers to help. Come and pray with her or counsel her or whatever they do. They don't encourage going to a psychologist so they need to be the ones to fix those that get broken right?
Well they send a newly appointed 18 year old to do the counseling..what a joke.
They ended up disfellowshipping her.
I have no respect for their knowledge..it shocks me that someone so smart can be so stupid at the same time.

I have to agree about the research though..I never do go along with polls/research. They can't possibly be a full mixture of people.
Like on some of those game shows, they say "We questioned/polled a group of 100 women" and yet when they ask a man the same question for a average answer they forget it was originally asked of women and the answer would be based on a women's point of view. The guy will probably get the answer wrong.
Polls and research can be swayed one way or another quite often by having the right group for your questions..

no one had any idea he was contemplating something like this.

As far as suicide goes, as a youngster I could never ever fathom why anyone would want to take their life/die. As I experienced life and got "More mature" I can now understand why. Many just feel there is no hope for the future or they are suffering too much to go on. We don't always know the real reason all the time but for them it is the only way out it seems...
It's sad that in this day and age people aren't being helped as they should/could be..
My heart goes out to you.
I wish he could have found a better way to cope.

Grandma Jones, the witness women used to gather in the other room while the hubby's were in another room and they would giggle and talk about their hubby's chasing them around the house when the kids were in school..even about how the "Did it" on the kitchen table and the little bows they would tie in various "Hot spots" .....
Anyway, why would someone laugh when considering that some never saw porn..I didn't until I was in my 40's and didn't miss a thing..still have no need for it an dnever did. Even when younger.
So don't "Assume" that everyone sees or even silently enjoys porn..
Some of us are actually normal....
