the new asleep is available on jw.org in its full color pdf glory.. i only glanced trough...seems pretty blah....except for the opening article and the pictures in particular.. the article addresses parents grieving to the loss of a small child due to an infectious disease.
an unimaginable situation for any parent (myself included)!.
the wt seems to show the natural reaction to the loss of a child and the expected grieving in a way that any normal parent would react.. however, it stood out in a stark contrast to the 1994 awake, where children lost to a stupid misunderstood and missaplied belief were lined up all smiling and their parents commended for the very actions that cut the life of their own children short!!.
When I was a witness I saw two families lose their young child. Both due to a disease that required a blood transfusion to save thier life. After each child died both families left the religion for a while. Alas they later returned (several years later). I think for a time they blamed God, like how could you do this to us?
Then realized that according to the teachings they were their only chance ot see their child again..
That's how they keep them..threats....

I just checked Belief net and it seems they have changed their quizes to be more specific.
Really interesting, it's like looking inside yourself.
I took the quiz named "What's your spiritual type"
The results out of a possible 25-100 was 54. A 54 indicates a "Spiritual Straddler"
That is one that has One foot in traditional religion and one foot in free form spirituality.

Two things I took from the test were,
1) Since many people acquire their beliefs through unbringing or social circumstances, we should not judge.
2) If exposed to many religions, what would encourage your choice? The teachings of the religion or the people?

FHN, that's a different thought...and somehow feel it's not too far off..
A church that just talks about how God loves us and how we should love one another and how we should all strive to do good things sounds ideal to me..for some reason the fact of having to "Go Through" Jesus even feels out of place to me.
No judging (overlooking each other faults) each other and trying to help each other in times of peril also sounds ideal.
Like one big family..

Just wanted to add that I took the test on Belief .net and it said I was closest to the Unitarian Universalist ...

i just received this from an old friend on fb.
i can't hang with an apostate or someone cheering.
on apostates...of course, if jw's are not your cup.
He grew up around (Neck deep) in Mormon, Dabbled in Eastern Philosophies, occasionally exposed to the JW's through Grandma...
Studied Evolution at college and determined that the JW's are the only ones that made any concrete sense?
I am wondering what he finally got a degree in or if he even finished college?
I am also believing that he knows a little about a lot but not a lot about anything...
Just because the JW's are masters in misleading doesn't make them right.
He should use the same deligence in seeing how the JW's are wrong and compare..
Anyone can look in the right if your attitude is one that you already think they are..you just pick and choose the topics that back up your thoughts..and ignore the rest. This includes us!
The thing is that we looked a little longer and deeper..

kingdom halls are a hellish memory for me.
i grew up as a jehovah's witness from the age of 9 until i fought my way to freedom at age 18. i recall children as young as a year old being beaten repeatedly for not sitting still during services...some sessions, called assemblies, were 6 hours long and lasted for 3-5 days in succession.. my nephew was one of many who felt the literal sting of the watchtower's stance of "spare the rod, spoil the child.
Aw yes Crapola...the "We'll go to McD's after the meeting if you are good.." bribe. Usually worked for my kids..

i don't know my answer yet.
it's one of those, "if you could have just one wish.." kind of questions.
But you would still be better off asking them If they felt they had the freedom to research any question brought up...( or are they too afraid of the witnesses)
A yes answer would open up an opportunity to ask any questions , a No answer would keep you from wasting your time and make them question their answer....

OK..the thread I was remembering doesn't have a lot but if you go to the "Home" of this site you will find a whole chapter for Medicine and blood issues.
If you have the questions they will have answers..the bad part is you will have to look for them.

Well hubby had cancer so I had to look a lot up then. There is actually a thread here that deals with that very subject. I also found this site as I , unlike many ex JW's, don't want to take blood.
