an elder body was removed last year in california.

most folks have never seen a watchtower letter breaking this news.

Great thread and interesting observations..

My 2 comments are Re:

1) A review of organizational policy and directives clearly establishes that there is no basis for disciplinary action in this particular case as congregation members are free to choose for themselves which congregation they will formally join and attend based on their individual circumstances.

This brought back memories..they always discouraged us from going to other congregations. If we did we had to have a pretty good excuse why. They made you feel like you were being disloyal to Jehovah if you strayed..made you feel pretty uncomfortable if you did. No disciplinary action but I bet if it were doe a few times we would hear something from them ..

2) Interesting point about each congregation supposed to be "On their own" and yet their decisions regarding their congregation were dismissed. I too can see this opening a whole can of worms regarding future lawsuits..A good thing right?

How should I respond to a JW friend? (Australia)

sorry if this isn't the right place to post this - brand new member here.. i recently caught up with an old friend who is a jw.

she's been witnessing to me, and i've accepted all her handouts because i don't want to hurt her feelings.

but now she's asking me for my "thoughts" about what i've read so far.

I have some JW friends in Australia also..I had a few discussions with the married daughter and when I made a good point on a subject she would answer that their religion isn't perfect..when I brought up the child abuse she replied that men aren't perfect and God (Jehovah) will judge their hearts..(meantime they can continue to do what they do?)

So their answer when confronted with something they can't argue down is " They (the witnesses) aren't perfect..and god will take care of it.Copout answer!

Don't know, if someone did that to one of my kids I would have been upset..I watched as a teen when a couple of guys (teens) tried to get my girlfriends jeans off and had her down on the ground..I was helpless and she was crying. They finally let her up laughing and left the school yard where we were at. They should have been arrested. They already had a record as juvies but we were both too scared to tell anyone. Their favorite trick was to grab at her skirt to see if she was wearing a monthly pad..It was the 6th grade and they teased her all the time because she had almost 36 inch boobs and a figure already..she had flunked one year so was actually a 7th grader at that time. They should have been severly punished for the things they did and got away with..

Can't see how this would be any different just because it was considered a prank..

Kids can be so cruel..because they get away with it..

Did I Have a Stroke?

i awoke this morning and really did not know where i was.

CoCo..I am fine now.. I actually was joking with the Dr as he was operating on me..they just made an incision in the leg and went in that way.I watched on the tv screen that showed what he was doing...the wonders of medical marvels are amazing..

Getting used to the various drugs wasn't as easy as you are probably finding out..you have to monitor them to make sure they aren't hurting you more than helping you..

Buried my father today

i mostly post fluff and music posts on this thread more often now but just thought i would let some people here who still know me about what has been goin on with me recently.

my dad about a 7 month battle with lung cancer which metastasized to the bones and he died early wed morning.

my dad was a fascinating man, complex, sometimes open and sometimes a very aloof and detached person.

I am so sorry for your loss..I hope he didn't suffer , I heard Bone cancer can be painful..
I too got to know my dad the last few years before his death..he was a great man and gentleman!

I loved and admired him greatly..as did anyone that knew him.

Berengaria, they had me put three reg aspirin under my tongue and they burned the heck out of my mouth and made me sick to my stomach..I was having a heart attack....I couldn't get that taste out of my mouth!..It was worse than the heart attack..really.. I had no pain in my chest with a heart attack just felt like someone was squeezing both my arms tightly with blood pressure cuffs..enough for me to call 911 though..I even stayed awake while they operated a and put two stents in me. I had instant relief! The ER Doctor said I was going to love him and I did!....

But that aspirin is nasty..there must be a reason they don't give you a coated aspirin but I don't know what it is..It toook three days for that to go away..

Would you have your son with lupus apologize for himself?

my son doesn't have lupus this is a hypothetical scenario.. .

avoiding sunlight is the primary change to the lifestyle of systemic lupus erythematosus sufferers.

i can't help but wonder how i would be viewed by onlookers if i demanded that, every night, i have my son apologize to me, and everyone else, for the lifestyle changes we have had to make because of his illness.. this is exactly how our society treats sin.

Good question, when I came out of the religion I was questioned by my co workers as to why I was always apologising for everything..

It was true. It took me a long time to stop feeling so guilty for every little thing I did wrong (or thought what I did it was wrong)..

They have you on a constant guilt trip in that religion so they can control you..another one of their tactics..

And regarding the Lupus, I thought it was only a woman's disease..but I looked it up and 90 percent are women that get it and 10 percent men. It also affects men differently than women..

Annoying JW Vegan....

my co-worker is a vegan and jw constantly talks about how healthy she is...blah, blah, blah....all day long and she's getting on my last nerve.

she's always posting how meat is murder on facebook and how all meat eaters are sooo uneducated.

funny since she dropped out of home schooling and never recieved her ged.
