What was the strangest or nicest experience you had at a door?
by Sheepish ini remember one lady who was so nice to us, she invited us into her foyer/porch area outside her front door where she had a huge owl that had come to hang out.
it was amazing to be so close to it, and we forgot all about the magazine offer!

Anytime they didn't slam the door in my face...
I had one lady I studied with that always baked fresh pastries for me.
We would have a tea party and then the study..She was one sweet lady..I got her to come to a few meetings but she eventually stopped saying it was too hard on her getting out.
Then there was the guy that came to the door with a very loose towel on and nothing else...
And some very very strange people!
I didn't know there were so many really odd people out there..
And some of them were even nicer than the Witnesses...

Quentin...Did your daughter REALLY need the drug?
My JW Father in law had bone cancer and since he wouldn't take any blood they had a shot they could give monthly to build up his blood..it was over $1,000. (It may have been more often then monthly)
Well medicare and his other insurance wouldn't cover it. He took it for 2 or 3 times and it didn't help him so they quit.
Sometimes I think they really take advantage of the situation!...

What burns me is I did shop around..I take 3 prescriptions..one place was cheaper with one or two drugs but was way higher with the third drug..then the next place..maybe one was way higher but the others were so much cheaper it was actually cheaper for the three of them. Now I could split them up but that means shopping at 3 different places..one of them is mail order and the other two are miles apart.
You would think that if one drug was cheaper at one place..all the drugs would be cheaper there..but no..they have to make life difficult!
Thing is I would save close to $60. if I took the time and trouble to do that...wish I wasn't so lazy...

I truly believe a heart attack can be brought on by hypertension! It can cause the arteries to constrict slowing blood flow to the heart..there still wouldn't actually be a blockage. Be sure he takes his meds..they work wonders these days. Also walking can reduce the stress.. Even housework.. Glad it was caught..hopefully no serious damage was done to the heart or it probably would have shown up on the stress test. It wouldn't hurt to have an Echo made of the heart to make sure no valves are involved also. I'm sure the Dr would have suggested it but it never hurts to ask. An Echo is just like a pregnant woman has on her belly..they just run a monitor over the heart and valves to check them out..they can also detect an enlarged heart this way. It is boring though..takes about 30 minutes... Best of lluck to him.. Snoozy Q

What were you disfellowshipped for?
by Kristofer ini recently had a discussion with a witness friend (i'm a secret) and she claimed that witnesses only get disfellowshipped for being unrepentant for immoral acts.
i am curious to know from those who have been disfellowshipped, what was it for?

I too disfellowshipped them. Wrote a letter and never heard from them again...I guess I didn't have enough money to spark their concern!
Years later..after coming to the XJW boards..I wrote asking for a copy of my letter I sent them..I couldn't remember what all I said..but it had something in their to incriminate someone..
They said"It is their property now and No I couldn't have a copy!.".Imagine that~
So if anyone wants to write them a "Good-by letter..be sure you make a copy..

ps..Years later my JW Mother in law asked the Elders at her hall if they could associate with me..they were told it was OK as I was never disfellowshipped.(Surprise Surprise..)Matter of fact they had requested a copy of my letter and said they felt bad for what I went through..I guess they wanted me back...yeah right!

I just want to give people on this board a big hug!You are all so caring and your concern for Ms. Mcduckett brings back memories to me. A little over 3 years ago I was on this board when I found out hubby had cancer! We were told
on 9-11-02 of all dates...
I received so much support from you guys. you will never know how much your kind words meant to me.
He was a JW so most of the friends we had were his (You know how that goes)..so I felt pretty alone. I also had a daughter that was pretty sick and had to be operated on at the same time. I felt like I didn't sleep for the entire 5 months he was sick and he passed away 2/5/03. You guys were always there for me..right up to the end.
So I in turn want to tell Ms Mcduckett to please try and at least lie down . Clear your head and think about nothing for a while.
The Drs. are taking care of your hubby and he will need you later. So take care of yourself.
I hope all goes well..Medicine can do so much these days..Big hug to your family..hope your twins eyes are opened before it's to late!..
It's so sad when I hear of family being shunned. So barbaric and cruel.!

Thank you for the story Debbie.
I hope my kids feel like that about me when I die!
I too lost my parents when they were in their 60's. My Mom went first and my Dad went 9 months later..
After I lost my hubby (He was 63) I understood just what my parents had gone through. They were NOT JW's..but my hubby was always helping his parents (JW's) and never had the time or wants to help mine.
I loved my parents and did what I could to help them. I was glad my Mom went first as I got to spend some alone time with my Dad and found out so much I didn't know about my parents. I was so sad they didn't have more healthy time together.I still have tears that well up thinking about them..Like you..they died in 1987 and 1988 and I still think about them.
I don't think that we ever get over the pain of losing a loved one. No matter how long ago it was.
I think about how sick my Mom was and they didn't even tell me for a long time. My Dad had a bad hip and heart yet he pushed himself to stay by her side 24 hours a day. He wouldn't leave the hospital and ended up with Pnemonia. After Mom passed away I had to admit him to the hospital for pnemonia. He got better but I know his heart was broken. He died 9 months later...
Losing a loved one is just about the worst pain I can imagine. Especially if they feel like they will NEVER see that person again.
