to all those who have in some way left the organization (be it disfellowshipping, disassociating, dis-whatever):.
come now, i know the amount of people who "realized that wt doctrine was in serious error" and politely handed in their letter of resignation has to be very small.
the level of bitterness and hostility towards the closest-to-what's-biblical organization has to develop some other way.. what did you do?
StiLLinTruth,
I've posted something for you in the Beliefs, Doctrine, and Practices forum.

hi Angharad,
I don't know if you missed it or not, but the post is on page 9 or 10 of this main board, dated March 31. The url is in the post, to visit a yahoo site for more info on it. I don't know if it will work, but I've included the url to the post. I've never heard of the kilroy show here in the US. I hope you didn't miss the show!

does anyone know if there is a copy somwhere on the www of the society's english-language brochure entitled "planned giving to benefit kingdom service worldwide"?.
if not could someone tell me why the wts thought it was necessary to print such a brochure (by the title it does not seem to be "spiritual food").
gianluca
Hi Gianluca and Prisca,
According to themselves, this is why the brochure was written:
"The brochure was written in response to the many inquiries the Society has received regarding gifts, wills, and trusts."
And of course, the WBTS didn't forget to say that supporting the work is a privilege, and that to support the WBTS is actaully display of love to Jehovah. It makes Jehovah's heart rejoice! The society even put stuff in the following info from the 11/1/98 watchtower to encourage CHILDREN to give them money too! Here is some info for you. It includes info on where to write if you want to order the brochure....
Truly, Jehovah's heart rejoices to see both young and old put his Kingdom interests first by 'honoring him with their valuable things.' (Proverbs 3:9, 10) Of course, no one can actually enrich Jehovah, for he owns all things. (1 Chronicles 29:14-17) But supporting the work is a privilege that affords the worshiper opportunity to display his love for Jehovah.Ways in Which Some Choose to Give Contributions to the Worldwide Work
Many set aside, or budget, an amount that they place in the contribution boxes labeled: "Contributions for the Society's Worldwide Work-Matthew 24:14." Each month congregations forward these amounts either to the world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, or to the local branch office.
Voluntary donations of money may also be sent directly to the Treasurer's Office, Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, New York 11201-2483, or to the Society's office that serves your country. Jewelry or other valuables may be donated as well. A brief letter stating that such is an outright gift should accompany these contributions.
Conditional-Donation Arrangement
Money may be given to the Watch Tower Society under a special arrangement in which, should the donor have a personal need, the donation will be returned to him. For more information, please contact the Treasurer's Office at the address noted above.
Planned Giving
In addition to outright gifts of money and conditional donations of money, there are other methods of giving to benefit Kingdom service worldwide. These include:
Insurance: The Watch Tower Society may be named as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or in a retirement/pension plan.
Bank Accounts: Bank accounts, certificates of deposit, or individual retirement accounts may be placed in trust for or made payable on death to the Watch Tower Society, in accord with local bank requirements.
Stocks and Bonds: Stocks and bonds may be donated to the Watch Tower Society either as an outright gift or under an arrangement whereby income continues to be paid to the donor.
Real Estate: Salable real estate may be donated to the Watch Tower Society either by making an outright gift or by reserving a life estate to the donor, who can continue to live therein during his or her lifetime. One should contact the Society before deeding any real estate to the Society.
Wills and Trusts: Property or money may be bequeathed to the Watch Tower Society by means of a legally executed will, or the Society may be named as a beneficiary of a trust agreement. A trust benefiting a religious organization may provide certain tax advantages.
As the term "planned giving" implies, these types of donations typically require some planning on the part of the donor. To assist individuals desiring to benefit the Society through some form of planned giving, the Society has prepared an English-language brochure entitled Planned Giving to Benefit Kingdom Service Worldwide. The brochure was written in response to the many inquiries the Society has received regarding gifts, wills, and trusts. It also contains additional useful information on estate, financial, and tax planning. And it is designed to help individuals in the United States who are planning to make a special gift to the Society now or to leave a bequest at death to select the most advantageous and efficient method in the light of their family and personal circumstances.
After reading the brochure and conferring with the Planned Giving Desk, many have been able to assist the Society and at the same time, maximize the tax benefits of doing so. The Planned Giving Desk should be informed of and receive a copy of any relevant document pertaining to any of these arrangements. Those interested in a brochure or in any of these planned giving arrangements should contact the Planned Giving Desk, either in writing or by telephone, at the address listed below or at the Society's office that serves your country.

Children Are Cheerful Givers Too!
I want to give you this to make more books for us. I saved this money up from helping my daddy. Thank you very much for all the hard work you do.-Pamela, age seven.
I am sending you$6.85 to help build more Kingdom Halls. I made it this summer when I had a lemonade stand.-Selena, age six.
I was raising a hen from which I got a rooster and another hen. I dedicated the last one to Jehovah. It finally gave birth to three hens, which I sold. I enclose the amount for Jehovah's work.-Thierry, age eight.
This is all the money I have! Please use it wisely. It was hard to save. Here is $21.-Sarah, age ten.
I won first prize in a school assignment, so I had to go on to the county competition. I won first place there too and then second prize in the district finals. For all of these, I won cash. I wanted to share some of that money with the Society. I feel that I was able to win these prizes because of the training I have received in the Theocratic Ministry School. I felt comfortable giving my report in front of the judges.-Amber, sixth grade.
I would like to give you this for Jehovah. Ask him what to do with it. He knows everything.-Karen, age six.

Thought it would be "fun" to go and get drunk with worldly friends? Thought it would be cool to start smoking? Lose faith in the Word because of too much associating with the world? (if you still remember your Scriptures, you should know what stand is taken). You cheat on your wife or your husband? Thought it would be refreshing to taste the grass on the other side of the fence? Fun to covet your neighbour's spouse? Or did you just decide to get a preview of what marriage is like, and get into some good pre-marital shagging?
I knew JW's that did all that WHILE they were JWs. Looks like JWs are just like the rest of us human sinners, eh? The only difference is, some people are too puffed up with pride to admit that they are sinners.
Ya started gambling, and never repented?
Is playing the stock market a sin?
Thought it would be kEWL to support a system that's based entirely on greed and the misfortune of losers?
Oh..so that's why JW's support the WBTS! I knew there had to be a reason!
It's wonderful to have you on the board. It's great to see different opinions here.

i thought that maybe i would keep everyone up to date re the foot and mouth epidemic that is sweeping the uk.. my wifes brother bob has a farm in dumfries, which is just across the scotland border.
yesterday tony blair visited the area and commended the farmers for their courage in keeping going in the face of almost insurmountable odds.. this morning bob received a letter from the ministry of agriculture.
his animals are within 5 miles of an outbreak of f & m, and as such they are to be slaughtered in an effort at containment.
Thank you for keeping us updated, Englishman. Thanks for the link too. My thoughts and prayers will be with them. It's heatbreaking all around.

hi, i'm interested in learning more about 1975 only from a jehovah witnesses.
i understand it was thought to be the "end of the world" by us jws but it didn't happen.
nonjws need not comment.
These are some of the quotes from the "society's" publications that lead up to the 1975 deal. These are only from watchtowers. the were plenty more in the Truth That leads to Eternal Life book too. Not to mention what was said to all at assemblies back then to contribute to Witnesses preparing for the end of the "old system", and the "new system" to arrive.
Watchtower 10/15/66
"Only a liberated people can preach a release to captives, conventioners were told in the speech "Preach a Release to the Captives," which thrilled them with its hopeful outlook. "Jehovah, the God of freedom and liberty, has freed his people from Babylonish bondage and has given them a work of liberation to do. That work of liberation and salvation must go on to the finish! To give aid today in this critical time to prospective sons of God," announced President Knorr, "a new book in English, entitled 'Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God,' has been published." At all assembly points where it was released, the book was received enthusiastically. Crowds gathered around stands and soon supplies of the book were depleted. Immediately its contents were examined. It did not take the brothers very long to find the chart beginning on page 31, showing that 6,000 years of man's existence end in 1975. Discussion of 1975 overshadowed about everything else. "The new book compels us to realize that Armageddon is, in fact, very close indeed," said a conventioner. Surely it was one of the outstanding blessings to be carried home!"
Watchtower 1/1/67
(This article titled Have You Read Your Copy? it was encouraging people to read their copy of their Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God! book yet...)
"But, without a doubt, nothing has created more interest in this textbook than the first chapter with its chart and fine information regarding the 7,000 years of God's rest day. The observation that 1975 may well mark the beginning of mankind's great Jubilee has intrigued many."
Watchtower 4/15/67
According to a more recent calculation of the Bible timetable, six thousand years of man's existence will end in the latter half of the year 1975, which is well within this century.
Watchtower 5/1/67
"Interestingly, the autumn of the year 1975 marks the end of 6,000 years of human experience. This is ascertainable from reliable chronology preserved in the Bible itself. What will that year mean for humankind? Will it be the time when God executes the wicked and starts off the thousand-year reign of his Son Jesus Christ? It very well could, but we will have to wait to see. Yet of this we can be certain: the generation that Jesus said would witness those events is nearing its close. The time is close at hand. On God's "timetable" we are in the closing days of a wicked system of things that will soon be gone forever. A glorious new order is immediately before us."
Watchtower 5/1/68
5 Therefore, God's seventh day and the time man has been on earth apparently run parallel. To calculate where man is in the stream of time relative to God's seventh day of 7,000 years, we need to determine how long a time has elapsed from the year of Adam and Eve's creation in 4026 B.C.E. From the autumn of that year to the autumn of 1 B.C.E., there would be 4,025 years. From the autumn of 1 B.C.E. to the autumn of 1 C.E. is one year (there was no zero year). From the autumn of 1 C.E. to the autumn of 1967 is a total of 1,966 years. Adding 4,025 and 1 and 1,966, we get 5,992 years from the autumn of 4026 B.C.E. to the autumn of 1967. Thus, eight years remain to account for a full 6,000 years of the seventh day. Eight years from the autumn of 1967 would bring us to the autumn of 1975, fully 6,000 years into God's seventh day, his rest day.
Watchtower 8/15/68
"29 After much of the mathematics and genealogies, really, of what benefit is this information to us today? Is it not all dead history, as uninteresting and profitless as walking through a cemetery copying old dates off tombstones? After all, why should we be any more interested in the date of Adam's creation than in the birth of King Tut? Well, for one thing, if 4,026 is added to 1,968 (allowing for the lack of a zero year between C.E. and B.C.E.) one gets a total of 5,993 years, come this autumn, since Adam's creation. That means, in the fall of the year 1975, a little over seven years from now (and not in 1997 as would be the case if Ussher's figures were correct), it will be 6,000 years since the creation of Adam, the father of all mankind!"
Watchtower 5/1/70
"However, Bible chronology which indicates that Adam was created in the fall of the year 4026 B.C.E. would bring us down to the year 1975 C.E. as the date marking 6,000 years of human history with yet 1,000 years to come for Christ's Kingdom rule. So whatever the date for the end of this system, it is clear that the time left is reduced, with only approximately six years left until the end of 6,000 years of human history.(1 Cor. 7:29) "
Watchtower 12/15/74
"To advertise the divine name still further, on March 1, 1939, some months before World War II broke out, the official magazine of the Witnesses came forth with the new legend, "The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom." And now, as the critical year of 1975 enters, it may well be asked: Has the Most High God of prophecy made a name for himself? The answer is self-evident, Yes! By whom? Not by Christendom or by Jewry, but by Jehovah's Christian witnesses!"
"And now, as the year 1975 opens up, some thousands of the anointed remnant, still alive on this earth, look ahead to realizing that joyful prospect. The increasing "great crowd" of their sheeplike companions look forward with them to entering the New Order without interruption of life."
Watchtower 7/15/76
"11 It may be that some who have been serving God have planned their lives according to a mistaken view of just what was to happen on a certain date or in a certain year. "
"15 But it is not advisable for us to set our sights on a certain date, neglecting everyday things we would ordinarily care for as Christians, such as things that we and our families really need. We may be forgetting that, when the "day" comes, it will not change the principle that Christians must at all times take care of all their responsibilities. If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises."
Watchtower 3/15/80
"If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." In saying "anyone," The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah's Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date."
the end of quotes..........
Farkelshmarkel,
There was no mandatory program of six month Bible studies
Care to elaborate on that? I don't remember that. I'm getting old!
Englishman,
Just out of interest, I was gone in '72, but when the Great British Drought of '76 occurred (It didn't rain for 6 months - in England! - from April until October), many dubs thought that this was Armageddon starting in installments.
I remember thinking that armageddon was here everytime we had a thunder and lightening storm at night. I'd lay in bed thinking I was going to die now. makes me wonder how many JWs believe that they are going to die in armageddon. I bet there are very few who think they'll live through it, being sinners and all, like the rest of the human race.

i hope youll like this one:.
to cope with the dissonance caused by past wt 'truth' becoming out-dated with new contradictory 'truth' metaphors are employed to subtly redefine the definition of truth.
the light of truth becomes progressively brighter, revealing new truths clearer than ever before and supposedly adding to, but not contradicting old truths (zion's watch tower, 2/1881:3).. however the evidence at many points indicates doctrinal contradiction, so more recently the wt added another metaphor for 'truth': .
speaking of "tacking". Venice started writing an article about it. she said I could share it with anyone. I'll send it to you if you want it.
