how did you feel about identifing yourself as a jehovahs witness to others?.

i often used to hide it because of the stigma attacthed to it.. was anyone actually proud to be one?

I was soooo ashamed and embarrassed!!!
The worst was when I did run into a classmate on Saturday morning. Fortunately for me they weren't the kind that got off on striaght ridicule or I would have een in serious trouble.
In fact up til about a year ago I still had a major problem telling anyone new about it. Now I say not that I'm proud but that I am indeed a survivor. And that is what I am proud of.

I think one of the biggest offenders is "How are you" or "Are you OK?" said to us by those that don't know us very well. They don't really want to know they are only asking because it is polite or something they were brought up thinking they should know. I have a friend that when she meets a new person and they say "Nice (or pleasure) to meet you" she only says "meet you" if she doesn't feel that their introduction was indeed her pleasure. I personally am sick off all the fakenes I am surrounded by. I refuse to say "Good Morning" and now simply acknowledge to ones I come across that it is indeed "Morning". I also don't ask how someone is doing unless I genuinely want to know. I only ask that others treat me the same way. No more stupid BS.

I have a dumb question....

ok i have been reading and posting for a couple of weeks and love it here.

i noticed some terminoligy that i hadn't come across before when speaking about the jw's.

i get calling them the "borg" - i am a star trek fan (lol..i think its funnie) but i still cannot figure out why they are called "dubs".. can anyone explain this to me please?.
