(I know I am missing some but those are the ones that stand out for me and have really helped me in recent months. I think we all play a part here whether it be to ask the questions...to answer the questions...to give support etc and all of our roles are very important and the forum is graetly blessed to have so many people that despite our differences in things all come together with the one common goal)

What is God’s proper name “Yahweh” or “Jehovah”?
In the English language, it is proper to use "Jehovah"

If its proper in the English language then why do other countries where English is not the primary language do they still use that pronunciation? I will even go one step further to decree that god started all languages at the tower of Babel. Why would he choose one language over another as his own? And if he did choose one language why would it be English? English is not the original language that Bible itself was even written in. If the Witnesses want to be technical which they are in many scenarios (blood, women etc) they wouldn’t they want the original language and the original pronunciation?

Did the Watch Tower and the Governing Body currently teach that Armageddon will come before the close of the twentieth century according to information published in the January 1, 1989 Watch Tower? Also, why were the dates in the article changed to not be specific to the twentieth century when it was published in the bound form at the end of the year?
I've seen the "supposed" conspiracy theories of apostates on this subject. To be honest, it's very lame. O.k. so they screwed up by saying "Twentieth" century. So what? I'm surprised that it was not caught before publication, but oh well. But what can we do? stone the writer to death?

They screwed up you say. How could an organization that is inspired by god screw up in a major way such as this? How is this “supposed” when it is provable by pulling out that Watchtower and checking? Conspiracy theories are based on just that: THEORIES. This is not a theory. I challenge you to look this up in your copy of that watchtower and tell us what you find. When you find that it is quoted exactly as we say then I ask for you to look it up in the volume. Is there a difference and is it noted that it has been edited. This is a big one. This proves the Watchtower is a False Prophet. Oh and I thought your response to this was sarcastic at best.

No publication said that "Armageddon WILL occur in 1975". Did the JWs believe that it could happen, yes. At the time they thought it could be a possibility. They were wrong and it was a hard lesson learned by all JWs.

The same could also be for beards and women wearing pants. It has never been directly said but when such things are implied I think the Organization needs to apologize (at least) for its even implying. This is what happens when one is not directed by divine beings. Things go wrong. If it was directed by god, then there would have been no mistake in the interpretation by the masses that decided to believe in 1975. They have a duty to the millions that follow them no to imply certain things and apologize when said things are incorrect.

we have all heard the cliche' "what goes around comes around" but do you really believe it?.

i know this person that for many years has been unkind, devious and vengeful and then over more recent years has had bad luck everywhere they turned around.

i mean one thing after another.

I know this person that for many years has been unkind, devious and vengeful and then over more recent years has had bad luck everywhere they turned around. I mean one thing after another. Most of the things that have happened to them would appear to be noones fault. Its almost like they attract bad luck. As much as I hate to say it part of me thinks they are getting what they deserve from all their bad deeds. The sad part is that while they have changed for the better to a degree they still don't seem to have quite learned their lessons on being a nice and considerate person. Unfortuantely that could be the cause for the "bad luck" that just won't go away.

Then of coarse I think of bad things that happen to me. Did I deserve some of them...probably. I have not been perfect so I'm bound to have a few things come back at me. Of coarse lately things are going pretty well and I think partially due to my being the best person I can be and making a conscious effort not to be unkind or underhanded.

I have a motto these days and it is "to practice safe karma". My own little addendum to "do unto others".

Do you think that the universe has its way of evening things out with some sort of karmic law?

who is wearing the pants?

i was thinking yesterday about women in the congregation not able to wear pants.

was there ever anything said in any article about this and what was their bible reasoning if so?.

• In view of what is written at Deuteronomy 22:5, is it proper for a woman to wear slacks?—U.S.A.

Deuteronomy 22:5 reads: “No garb of an able-bodied man should be put upon a woman, neither should an able-bodied man wear the mantle of a woman; for anybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah your God.” This text is not discussing styles of clothing. The prohibition concerns one’s putting on things specifically designed for the opposite sex.

The distinction between the sexes is of divine origin and the law set forth at Deuteronomy 22:5 served to preserve that distinction. When it comes to appearance and attire, the usual thing is for a man to want to look like a man and for a woman to look like a woman. For an Israelite to have acted contrary to this deep internal sense of what is fitting could have led to homosexuality. Thus the law at Deuteronomy 22:5 also opposed this sin.

At the time the law was given, both men and women wore robes. But there was a definite difference between the garb of men and that of women. Similarly, in some parts of the earth today both men and women wear slacks. But styles of slacks for women differ from those for men. Accordingly, the principle taught at Deuteronomy 22:5 would not rule out a woman’s wearing slacks or pants.

Moreover, Christians are not under the Mosaic law. (Rom. 6:14) Insistence on applying the letter of this law would therefore be contrary to Christian teaching. So if a woman were to put on a worn-out pair of her husband’s trousers to do a job around the house or on the farm, she would not be going against the evident purpose of the law, namely, to prevent confusion of sexual identity and sexual abuses.

The fact that Christians are not under the Mosaic law but are guided by its principles calls for them to use discernment, good judgment and to exercise their conscience. A Christian woman appreciates that whether it would be proper for her to wear slacks or pants depends upon factors other than her personal likes. She would not want to be the cause for stumbling others or bring reproach on the Christian congregation. Clothing that may not be looked on with disfavor if worn in the privacy of one’s home or at work may be objectionable if worn at Christian meetings and when publicly proclaiming God’s Word or carrying on other public activity. Attitudes, too, may differ from area to area. The Bible’s counsel is that women “adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, ._._. in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.”—1_Tim. 2:9 10.

what are your special powers?

back when i was younger every dream i would have would come true.

it kinda freaked me out since they were not always good dreams.

i don't remember too many of my dreams anymore but a couple weeks ago i did and it did partially come true the very next day.

Reading through some of your happenings I rememberd another incident where I felt what my other half was feeling from half way around the world. He was upset and having a bad day and that entire day I felt sad and depressed when I had no idea why until I spoke with him later on. I do have to admit that we have an incredible and uncanny connection but I had never felt like that before. It truly strengthened my resolve that we are connected on a much higher level than I had ever anticipated.

I think that everyone has a 6th sense just that most people don't pay any attention to it. Lots of people even use words such as "hunch" and "intuition" but I think its really their higher sense telling them something. I think that everyone has at least one unexplained event in their life. Many religious people will throw it off as "miracle" but I really think with all our unused brain power and lack of understanding of it we could be an amazing species if we only opened ourselves up .

SOJ--First I wanted to thank you for answering my questions with WT reasoning. I am lacking for time currently but I do have more questions about your answers that I will look into at more depth when my time allows for me to do so.

Everyone I have to say that SOJ reminds me of YouKnow on this thread and while I do not agree with him in any way I think we should at least respect his attempts at holding a discussion.

How Many of You Have Put the WTBTS in Your Will?

it seems like every service meeting they are suggesting we give toward one thing or another.

even printed in several of the watchtowers or awakes that it would be ok to leave all our belongings to the society in our will.

we can't give blood, but they sure are asking for it.

out of curiosity I wonder if you could claim anything you donated to them. You know if you donate to a charity it is tax deductible. I wonder if the WTS is under that bracket. Anyone know?

I honestly wasn't trying to make Sword or any other lurker look like a fool or put him down. I only wanted some honest JW answers to these questions.

Unfortuantely it would seem as though Sword is not willing to enter into a legitimate discussion at this time.

I would hope he reconsiders so that we may all understand exactly what a "witness in good standing" thinks on such subjects.

To be honest my dad is willing to discuss this stuff with me. I just want to know a like mind will say so that I don't lookl ike a fool if I come unprepared.

SOJ---would it not also be loving of you to help me out. I am not DF'd nor DA'd therefore it is not wrong for you to participate in questions with me.

gcc2k---- I will PM the website I found these questions on. You might be able to ask them. I looked for the actual magazine in my parents literature but didnt find that year either in magazine or volume form.
