What I find scary is that... it's accurate. That's how I used to think when I was a JW. This "alternative type of critical thinking" is a nightmare.

the one million dollar paranormal challenge was an offer by the james randi educational foundation (jref) to pay out one million u.s. dollars to anyone who can demonstrate a supernatural or paranormal ability under agreed-upon scientific testing criteria.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/one_million_dollar_paranormal_challenge.
aaaaand discuss!.
But then... how would his activity be supernatural or paranormal if simple nature (namely static electricity) could interrupt that?
i dont know where to start so why not at the beginning.
i was seeing this girl and we hit it off great chemistry.
it went from a physical to a deeper relationship.
James87 - Part of me feels like I have failed and a part of me feels relieved and lucky that I didn't marry her.
2 years ago I used to look at relationships the same way you do—that it's either a success or a failure. If a couple breaks up, it's because they failed at keeping that relationship alive. I no longer share that belief. Today, I prefer to look at it differently*. If a couple breaks up, it's not because they failed. It's because they found out more about each other—and that new information has led them (or one of them) to conclude that they are incompatible.
Incompatibility in a relationship doesn't mean failure. No matter what you do in life you have high chances of meeting someone, falling in love with him/her, and then finding out that, after all, the two (or more) of you are incompatible with each other. This may be because one partner wants kids while the other doesn't. Or because one partner has higher sex drive than the other. Or because one partner is overly religious (to the point of being "batshit crazy") while the other isn't. Or because... (insert any important reason.)
The reason why I don't look at it as a failure is because failing implies having done something wrong. If you have not done this thing wrong, then you would not have failed. But it's not true when it comes to incompatibility. No matter what you do sometimes compromise is not possible. In your case, your girlfriend (soon-to-be ex, I assume) is not only too religious, but she is also fickle and capricious. These two character traits make the two of you incompatible. You have not failed because no matter what you would have done in the past this would not change. She would still be religious, fickle, and capricious. Your personalities are simply incompatible.
* This is not to say that there is no such thing as failure in relationships. For example, if you are abusing your partner, you are obviously failing. However, my point is that incompatibility does not necessitate failure.
i seriously doubt that any jw understanding of prophecy has ever withstood the test of time.
how can anyone trust them when they are always wrong?
?.
They claimed God's Kingdom would come to earth in 1914. Then after 1914 they claimed Satan was thrown out of heaven and hurled down to earth.
Sooo.... do "post-hoc predictions" count, haha? :D I mean, after all, there was World War I, haha :D
pesident trump authorized the missile strike because “it is in the vital, national security interest of the united states to prevent and deter the use of deadly chemical weapons.” .
59 tomahawk missiles were launched from two us navy ships.. russia has condemned the action.. https://youtu.be/4svp3yfneyq.
.
Yeah. My brother and my mother didn't want to believe Trump commanded the attack of Syria until they checked their sources. Whatever these are.
They think they're skeptics by rejecting a lot of information we have about Trump—such as his misogynistic and racist remarks. Even though we have recordings and actual proof of what he did, they think they're rational by suggesting there are explanations other than claiming that Trump said it. (Possibly like... it was faked?)
When it comes to whether it's a good thing that the USA attacked Syria... I'm afraid I don't know enough to have an opinion. What I'm interested to find out is what will happen between the left and the right now that it did happen. How many Americans will support it, how many will condemn it, and what will happen because of this disagreement? I wonder.
an innocent picture of a city in my country, spain.
the pic says everything.
many jw are really disgusted about everything, even their new preaching cart.
OrphanCrow - And I haven't seen them in their usual table spot down at the university either. Pretty quiet here!
Jehovah's Witnesses at the university!?
Oh, I get it. You almost got me.
planning on viewing or recording the live stream of the australian royal commission's investigation of watchtower on march 10, 2017?
i believe the stream begins at 10 am aedt (australian eastern daylight time); you will need to figure out when that is in your local time zone.
here is a time zone converter.
So time travel is possible after all...
was there anything positive about your jehovah's witness experience?.
One of the Jehovah's Witnesses I knew in one of the congregations I attended invited me over to dinner every Saturday after service. It was a nice "tradition." He (let's call him Matt) said he thought of me as his younger brother. Even though he was 20–30 years older, we were quite close. It was probably because of our similar personalities. We both enjoyed learning, and we both had the same type of humor (everyone else, except for one other Jehovah's Witness (let's call him Ben) who was around 50 years older and who also was one of my closest friends―probably the closest despite the age difference―thought we were crazy.) Matt and I laughed all the time. And Ben? Hell, he acted like a 10-year-old (in a good way―he played jokes on everyone but never crossed the line) even though he was almost 70... If I ever loved any one of my friends, it was these two.
Needless to say, we don't talk anymore.
recently i watched the newest episode from the philip defranco (reason be upon him) show, and philip mentioned the most recent controversy that surrounds the walking dead.
after primark, a clothing retailer in the uk and ireland, started selling certain the walking dead t-shirts, some customers complained that they are racist because of their slogan: "eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
" according to these customers, this counting rhyme (eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe.
Recently I watched the newest episode from The Philip DeFranco (reason be upon him) Show, and Philip mentioned the most recent controversy that surrounds The Walking Dead. After Primark, a clothing retailer in the UK and Ireland, started selling certain The Walking Dead T-shirts, some customers complained that they are racist because of their slogan: "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe." According to these customers, this counting rhyme (Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers let him go [...]) originally included the N-word instead of the word "tiger," and hence these t-shirts should be considered offensive.
As Bill Maher put it, we live in a "pussy nation."
Here's Philip DeFranco's episode which covers the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnmjXFuqkSY
And here's one of the articles written about that: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/02/23/walking-dead-t-shirt-racist_n_14961668.html
just read some of this latest awake on the org's webshite.. it begins by talking about the 'supernatural' - wizards, witches, vampires, etc.
- their popularity and why they might appeal to people.
then it goes on to state the wt belief that someone is 'behind it'.. now, i like a few horror/scary films - when i was a kid, i always actually liked being a bit scared by them, tbh.. the silence of the lambs, a nightmare on elm street (1984), the ring, the witch, the thing (1982) and a few others are all great, imo.. they are just genres and subgenres of film, that's all.
The Ring is the best horror I've ever seen. No other movie scared me like this one. I saw it for the first time when I was about 11 or 12 (even though I shouldn't at that age!) It scared the hell out of me. After watching The Ring 2, I had to force myself to actually take a shower. The bathtub scene was too much for the young me. And the TVs... Oh, the TVs... Yup, no other movie scared me like The Ring.
