  Stupid Illustration

  so as i sit here listening to the sunday morning bs session the elder on the stage yapped about religion and that there can only be one religion leading to god.

  he used the illustration of a bicycle wheel.

  it has many spokes and they all lead to the center.

  JW Parents and kicking out their children

  is it a common practice for jw parents to kick their children out of the home, if the child doesn't want to be a jw.

  (even though their not disfellowshipped they will still get kicked out for not going to meetings etc.??).

  do other religions encourage kicking family members out this as well?

  It depends upon your definition of immoral. I think it's immoral to abandon your children. Besides, believe it or not, you can be moral without being a Witness. I prefer people who are moral out of true conscience and principle, rather than fear, and there are far more of them than there are Witnesses.

  so i was reading thru a fb feed about poor chester bennington and in relation chris cornell, there were some rather heated and unusual (or usual whatever you may think ) comments... no disrespect to believers but since leaving the jws i just see this type of discussion as lunacy.

  ... "chester is going to hell ,he killed himself so it's black and white in god's word ."..

  "why would a loving god send a person who suffers from mental illness to hell?

  i had given serious consideration too leaving the board.

  i rationalised my views on " muslims" we're not held by the majority so i should leave.

  but this would have been wrong thinking, instead i should appreciate the platform i was given to debate with free speech.

  Have you ever heard the term "One trick pony"? You have only one response to the comments on this Guardian piece. So far you haven't touched on a single point presented in the article, which shows that you either haven't read it, or are unable to understand the premise, which involves the hacking of a corporation, not voting machines.

  Why don't you join an OP where your Liberal conspiracy, illegal voting viewpoint is relevant?

  Unfortunately, there is a group of people on this forum who are literally poster boys for the whole Watchtower idea of "free speech".

  Let me run down the attributes.

  1. Believe only what one side has to say.
  2. Accept cherry picking, half-truths, and outright lies if they are in alignment with their beliefs.
  3. No attempt to ferret out the truth by researching different viewpoints.
  4. "Them against us" attitude.
  5. Respond to any real discussion with deflection, strawman, and red herring arguments when they can't defend a position, and finally resorting to ugly personal attacks.(This last point is something that JWs rarely do, to their credit.)
  6. no ability for critical thinking.
  7. Highly resistant to cognitive dissonance.

  They have traded one ideology for another, with no evidence of having learned anything from their experience as a JW.

  When I debate them, I'm not trying to engage in real discussion, as I realize that it's a waste of time. I'm just putting out information that others can read, and using their ability to reason, see what's really going on in the world. I feel that it's important that people come to conclusions based on their natural curiosity and desire to learn, rather than marching in step with others based on a biased world view.

  When I first started commenting on controversial subjects, I was appalled by the reactions to my arguments, and tried to defend myself by responding in kind.

  Now I just point out the biases and inaccuracies of others, and really don't care what they say about me, knowing that the majority here are genuinely caring, thoughtful people with a desire to help others deal with the emotional pain of having been part of an ignorant, misguided viewpoint that poisoned many years of their lives.

  I wish some of you would actually read the article. Your off subject comments about Liberals, Clinton, the MSM, and illegals voting have nothing to do with the content of the article. It's about the successful hack of a voting machine manufacturer by the Russians. It doesn't say that it changed the vote. It says nothing about the Democrats claiming to have lost the vote due to the hacking. It says nothing about Hillary trying to influence the 2012 Russian Election.

  So far, your comments are textbook examples of strawman and deflection. Why don't you stop imitating Trump's Tweets and actually engage in intelligent discussion?
