Raziel. Thanks for the clarification. I think the kind of weapon I'm thinking of is the type that allows a high rate of fire without having to reload. You can still pump out a lot of bullets with a large magazine, even if you only shoot one at a time.

A lot of the arguments here are about jobs and safety. Isn't the point of immigration letting people into the country who will become a part of the work force and become productive members of society? If we're truly trying to save jobs, we should not allow any immigration, and truly enforce the penalties for hiring illegal workers. I'd love to see patriotic Americans out working in the fields on a hot summer day for peanuts. If we want to save jobs, lets not import anything, and completely close the borders. That should also take care of terrorism. Anything else won't be 100% effective. How else to stem the flood of criminals and terrorists?
What would make us safer, a ban on immigrants, or a ban on military grade weapons? I think gun ownership is fine, but no one needs an automatic weapon to hunt or target shoot. I'd feel safer with less guns than less immigrants. It's just plain stupid to worry about being killed by terrorists when there are so many more dangerous things all around us.
Is it worse for 1 American to be killed by a terrorist, or 10,000 by US citizens? If you think so, than you're totally irrational. It has nothing to do with bigots or racists, though it doesn't take a genius to realize that some defenders of the ban are (Notice that I said some, not all, and they know who they are).
Common sense says that walls and bans are a simplistic, relatively ineffective solution to the problems we face. And once again, I'm not saying that there aren't dangers out there, but why can't we just put them into perspective, rather than have knee jerk reactions to everything.

What I've not heard from anyone on this or any other threads is what exactly is "extreme vetting"? Is this just another slogan like "repeal Obamacare"? In 90 days are we going to hear that they haven't figured out what to do yet?
This administration is big on getting things done, but have no idea HOW to get things done! Let's hear a shred of evidence that there is a plan, and maybe people will back it. From what I've read, Trump is rubber stamping Bannon's ideas without even considering the ramifications.
We still have no idea how to pay for the wall, let alone what to do about the ACA. Why don't we tackle one problem at a time? I hardly think we're in danger of of a nuke going off in New York, or another major city in the next month or so.

Simon. I understand your point, but if I thought there was a way to give my children a better life, or protect their lives by going somewhere else, I wouldn't worry too much about the legality of it. At least, I hope I would have the courage to do it.

We deserve to die
by elfgoblin inat the meeting today, we were reading the watchtower and this elder apologetically said to such a degree in regards to romans 5:12 that "we humans are not worthy of any mercy from jehovah.
we shouldn't even have free will because we can't possibly do anything good enough to please jehovah.
we don't even deserve life because of sin.

And it's not enough to lead a blameless life, you still have work another 1000 years to prove you're worthy of God's love.

Azor. Don't you understand? The only way to make America safe is to build a wall, expand our military, and hunker down until the world becomes just like us. Everyone who is different is a potential terrorist/mass murderer. Not to mention, as South Park so eloquently stated," They're takin' er jerbs!"

Just makes the point that there are still people in this world that will endure great hardship and give up their old life to make a better new life for their children, rather than sit around and expect someone else to do it for them.
Legal or not. I admire their courage.

It's a heartwarming story, but one wonders what will happen, now that they have gone from extreme poverty shared by everyone around them, and are asked to remain poor and uneducated while surrounded by opportunity.

I'm frankly puzzled. The article she wrote for the Orlando Times would have called for a visit to the back room in my congregation. Are they that lenient in that area, or is she already beginning a drift away from the Organization?
