I'm curious, why is it that some regions haven't made reporting mandatory? Is there some issue that I'm not aware of that prevents it?

Mandatory Reporting Laws in Canada - Child Abuse
by OrphanCrow inthe issue of whether or not the elders have a duty to report is clear cut in canada.
this will make it impossible for the wts to wriggle out of the wrongs that have been exposed in quebec recently.
the elders in those situations have received their instructions from the wts lawyers and they have been advised wrongly.. for several years (can't remember when this was made law...years back), it has been mandatory for everyone in canada to report suspected cases of child abuse, which, naturally, include the sexual abuse of minors.

iZombie, Longmire,The 100 are a few of the many that I've enjoyed. I like the characters and action on Penny Dreadfall, but if I want sex, I'll just go on the internet. Beautiful sets, costumes and atmosphere. Anyone else a fan of Detectorists?

Azor. Thanks for agreeing to disagree. I think we should all realize that Simon is unbeatable in a debate. I don't always agree with his statements, but they really do make me think, and sometimes see the other side in a different light. Thank God we live somewhere that we can have dialogues like this.
So, kudos to you Simon! You are a superb Devil's Advocate, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

rebel fighter. From your comment about the birth certificate, and your defense of Trump's refusal to release his taxes, I'll assume that you probably didn't vote for Obama or Hillary.

Simon. It's the context that makes words offensive. In a Chris Rock comedy routine, the use of the n-word is not the same as when uttered by a KKK member. I don't assume Chris Rock uses the term out of hatred. So I do have to back track a bit and admit that it doesn't offend me every time it's used. Only when it is intentionally used to purposely denigrate someone else. So I suppose some of these posters can say they don't use these terms maliciously, but to class bigotry using a phrase usually related to pornography,"I know it when I see it".

Luhe, I'm only saying that I find these terms offensive. I would find them offensive no matter what the subject was. Does disliking someone make calling them a name OK? Look how this whole OP has degenerated. Using slurs didn't advance either side's narrative, it just created a lot of rancor and divisiveness. -

I don't know about others here, but I'm White, and find all these ethnic slurs very offensive. I've never heard another White use them as a term of endearment for another ethnicity. When I hear it, I automatically label that White a racist on some level. If it doesn't bother you, fine, but I think that some here would agree with me, and I don't think that makes me a Social Justice Warrior.

Rebel fighter. Yes there are laws in place to keep people from hiring illegal immigrants, but they seem to be pretty piss poor, considering all the undocumented workers in this country. As you said, Trump is a pretty smart guy. You don't think he has dozens of ways to hide illegal hiring? We can't even see his tax returns. As for the rest, very few ever face jail time (Google it). They pay fines that are a drop in the bucket, $1,500,000 sounds like lot, but it's spare change to a big corporation. Probably the hardest hit would be small employers, and they often get probation.
Jehalepeno. Why don't you just come out and say you think that any person who commits any type of crime is a scumbucket . It's obvious that you don't care how large or small the crime is. Buckets won't care, and no one will get mad. An added plus will be that you can apply it to any race ,ethnicity, or religion. It's a win all around.

Simon. Not to be flippant, but by sending jobs to Mexico, aren't we employing people who might otherwise try to come here? Short of guaranteeing that all jobs must be filled by native or legal residents, and levying severe fines and jail time to those who hire illegals, workers will continue to come to the US.
The refugees are a separate situation, we can try vetting them all, but I don't know if this country could afford the cost of adequately screening everyone claiming asylum. Unless we achieve equity in jobs and civil rights in the poorer nations, I can't see any real solution to this problem.
I see in the news today that another Republican now wants to severely cut the number of legal immigrants to this country. So, will this solve the problem? I doubt it. It will make some people happy, but that's about it.
I guess we're left with the xenophobic option, just close the borders completely, and if everything goes to hell, we can try something else. At least it will shut up the alt-right, which is not such a bad thing.
