Gosh; there's nothing wrong with marriage; but having a loving and respectful relationship with your partner doesn't have to be wholly contingent on whether or not you decide to tie the knot! Let's remember, people, that we're not in the JW anymore, and that we no longer have to be suspicious and accusatory.

My chat with Elder Dad. (I'm angry!!)
by home_and_dry ini feel the need for a rant!
i had a conversation with my jw elder father tonight that has left me seething.
just to set the scene, i left the jws back in 1994. i was baptized, having been dfd and reinstated a couple of years prior to my final exit in 94. i was never dfd again and pretty much left to my own devices.

WORLDWIDE LETTER MAILED
by Dogpatch inon or about june 30, 2002, thousands of jehovah's witness elders around the world received a letter from "the worldwide .
christian community" urging them fully to take on their voluntary responsibility as "shepherds of the flock of god" .
with respect to child molestation that occurs among their "flock.

Were they mailed to specific elders' homes, or to congregations?

Got Given A Witness Today.
by Englishman inthere i was, enjoying a lovely warm morning in sunny winscombe in deepest somerset whilst working on a clients roof, when out of the corner of my eye i espied 3 ladies sauntering up the road at a leisurely 0.5mph.
aha, i thought, that looks like the pioneer crawl, there's dubs on the horizon!
i had my car parked in the customers driveway, so i thought to myself "why not take a break now, sit in the car and munch my blt, and see if they approach?".

Ugh, I never get to get witnessed to! My father knows my address so the Witnesses whose territory I am in, don't call on me. Gosh, I'd love to have a crack at them.
Good for you!

MY ANNIVERSARY!!
by starfish422 intoday is 9 years since i made my stand against the oppression.
in celebration, i offer my favourite song by sloan (for you non-canucks, a great canadian band from halifax, nova scotia).
i sing this song at the top of my lungs when it comes on the radio, because i know how much my father would hate it.

If It Feels Good Do It
This song is dedicated to you...
'Cause this song is for people who know what rock 'n' roll is about!I can't invest my time
I've tried it all, and I'm tired of trying
You think you got it all figured out
And everything you think it's aboutWhen you found yourself finally released
You hit the ground and kept runnin' east
And now it's all catching up to you
As these things usually doSaw it all and I can't deny
It's a hard life living a lieIf it feels good do it
Even if you shouldn't
Don't let people mess you around
Feels good do it
Even if you shouldn't
Nobody can mess you aroundI saw it all and I can't deny
It's a hard life living a lieTried it all...
Tried it all and I'm tired of trying
You're running away
Things could have been different if you'd decided to stay
You can't wear your heart on your sleeve
If you're just gonna leaveI can't invest my time
I've tried it all, and I'm tired of trying
I saw it all and I can't deny
It's a hard life living a lie -

Assemly food tickets - WHY??
by home_and_dry ini was laying in bed last night thinking how lucky i am that i havent had to undergo the mental torture of attending the district convention.
then i started reminiscing about the old days and i suddenly remembered those ridiculous tickets you had to buy to pay for food.
they were those brown cheap cardboard type efforts with i think 10 tickets per sheet.

They did away with the meal tickets at the same time they stopped charging a set price for literature. Just another way to avoid paying Caesar's things to Caesar.

Well, I'm an atheist...but I often wonder whether there is a cosmic, karmic sort of force out there which connects all living things on the earth. Not a deity; more of a 'the force be with you' kind of thing.

Were you chaperoned?
by writerpen innow that i'm out of the borg and realizing that i've never dated, i think it's in the near future for me.
so i was thinking about my age of 30 and never being on a date.
but even worse, i was thinking of those of you who dated while in the borg and had to deal with an audience - actually i had to laugh when thinking about the absurdity of the scenario.
-
starfish422
Well, I didn't date in the Borg but my two older brothers both married and I was a chaperone both times; more so for the younger of the two, who met his girlfriend when she was 16 and they dated for four years before getting married. This made for a lot of me tagging along with my brother everywhere he went; which was okay with me at age 12 because his girlfriend was almost the same age as me and and they listened to good music. And I got to go to a lot of places. But I'm not sure how much they appreciated it! lol I didn't get invited to be in the wedding so maybe that's a clue!

Were you ashamed of being a witness?
by sleepy inwere you ashamed of being a witness?.
how did you feel about identifing yourself as a jehovahs witness to others?.
i often used to hide it because of the stigma attacthed to it.. was anyone actually proud to be one?

I'm never ashamed now to tell people what I used to be; because it wasn't my fault. I was raised in the Borg from the day I was born, so what choice did I have until I reached legal adulthood?
Often people who are just getting to know me, notice that I mention my inlaws often but never my own parents, and they ask where my family is. I jump at the opportunity to spread the truth about "the truth". People are always shocked and saddened to hear that my parents have disowned me, and it always leads into a good opportunity to "witness" to others.
