Realist I said SOCIALIST not communist country there is a difference. It is a proven fact the desire to succeed is higher in the U.S. than Europe because of the fact that all your money is taken. And I talked about Canada's healthcare system but if you want to throw in Europe why not. In Europe I have been told by people who live there that you have to wait 2 weeks if you have to see any kind of specialist. With the PPO I have here in the U.S. when I needed to see a specialist I got in that same day because I demanded my rights. Being poor is a choice you make. Goverment has no right to hand your money off to somone else. What are we telling people if we do that? We are telling them it doesn't matter what you do there will always be a handout for you? There is no need to better yourself because the guy next door will pay for you. The U.S. IS the BEST country to live in and I think we all need to appreciate the FREEDOM we have here. We have the right to think for ourselves and to choose our own healthcare and doctors. We have the right to succeed or fail. To that I say GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I say to all those that want socialism move to where they have it. If you don't want freedom then get out.

Teejay- I am a accountant and do taxes. We have several high end clients. These clients don't "hide" what they make they merely take the credits and deductions that they are legally alotted. I don't know your personal situation but if you own a home do you take your mortgage interest deduction? Do you take your education credit if in school? Is that hiding how much you make? Did you know that I several clients that lost 1-3 million in the stock market and are only allowed to deduct 3,000 per year because that is the credit limit. Someone who lost 1 million it would take 333 years to deplete that credit and once you die thats it its over. I know some lost their whole retirement and cannot deduct it. So in reality they are paying their share and more. The system is set up to pay a percentage of your income and there is no hiding what you make there are laws that give you the ability to take a credit or deduction but that is availiable to all not only the rich.
IMHO the more tax breaks you give to corporations the more money they have for their employees.

So Realist you want to live in a socialist country then? Yes Europe may have less so called poor people but they take your paycheck and divide it up among the poor and yourself. They also have lacked in technology over the years and Medical care. Why do you think so many come to the U.S. to live? There is no drive in other countries to succeed because no matter what you do your pay will pretty much be the same. Look at what socialized medicine has done to Canda. People are on waiting list to get proper care they are willing to pay the price to come to America to get care. You can say calling it communism is too far I will agree with you there but I would not want to live in socialist nation either. America works because we are free to make choices when it comes to our success and failure, we are not handed our success we work for it and that is why our nation thrives.

Realist Perry is not exaggerating he actually is giving more credit to those that pay the tax bill. It is actually the top 1% that pay the majority of the tax bill.
Xander I think it is sad you live with such anger and envy. If through going to college and working hard you became rich and could put your children in one of the top schools and pay for their college wouldn't you? Wouldn't you want your child to be successful?
I am 25 work 60+ hours a week and go to school full time so I will be able to provide that life for my children to be and they don't have to work and go to school like I have had to.
In the United States we all have equal opportunities to make a success out of our lives. That is the beauty of living in this country. Why should goverment take away the right they have given us, the right to succeed. If you choose not to succeed and make something out of your life others shouldn't have to pay for it IMHO.

Gasoline Price in your area
by JH inyesterday alone the price of gasoline went up 9 cents a liter here in eastern canada passing from 68 to 77 cents a liter.
a one day jump of 9 cents a liter is equal to about 40 cents a gallon.
so now we pay 77 cents a liter or 3.50$ a canadian gallon.

Do You Know Your Blood Type?
by RAYZORBLADE inwith all the information we have nowadays, out of sheer curiousity, do any of you know your blood type?
for some, i know the blood-issue is a touchy subject, but it's interesting to know it.
you'd be surprised especially when the case of an rh-negative mother may give birth to an rh-positive child.

Ladies, are you submissive enough?
by Celia ini just received a magazine in the mail titled : answer magazine.
it must come from some born again christians and i have an idea who had it forwarded to me.... .
one article is : what's so scary about submission ?

I have not been submissive a day in my life. I am my own person and my husband is his own person. We both have ideas on situations and have to come to an agreement before something is done. I am not going to be led blindly through life.

Weekly Food Bill Survey
by patio34 inafter reading the thread on portion sizes, it'd be interesting to see what folks spend weekly on their groceries.
one of my new year's resolutions was to improve my finances and groceries are coming under scrutiny.
i spend about 30 a week (now), but when i wasn't paying attention and stopping in all the time, i'll bet i was spending double that.. so, what do you spend?

Ok if I include eating out and the 4 lovely cats I have I would have to say I spend on 2 people I think I spend beteween 115-160 a week. My cats have to have the most expensive food though and I am very picky about what I will eat ( i will not buy chicken with bones) so up goes the food bill. RT could live life on mac and cheese and frozen hamburgers but not me. I say you have to eat you might as well eat what you like and worry about the cost later. I really like Trader Joes which is a specialty food store they are more expensive on items but they have wonderful foods. If you have one in your area I suggest going. I also am very picky about produce and will only buy produce that is really good otherwise it is just not worth it.
Syn how do you do it my Cat food/Litter bill alone is $60-70 a month.
