So my Fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a Halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw. His mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it. I thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness. She hid it from my Fiancé, probably thinking he might snitch on them on something, but he saw pictures of it on Facebook. He’s going to try to respectfully get her to open up about it, but who knows. Maybe she is justifying it, thinking it was just a party and she wasn’t celebrating. I am partly very happy and hopeful (maybe we will have family to celebrate holidays with after all) but also worried for her, the people who posted the picture have a public Facebook page so hopefully no one sees it, otherwise she will surely be disfellowshipped, especially for taking her young daughter too. Do you guys think she still believes in the jw beliefs? Have you ever seen something like this or done it yourself?

What’s the big deal with birthday cake?
by Addison0998 inhow strict were the jehovah’s witnesses you knew about birthday cake?
i knew a girl who saw a few pieces of cake in the break room at her work, and ate a peice, then found out later that it was left over birthday cake.
she felt so guilty and was scared about a bad impression she left on her work mates.

She felt so guilty and was scared about a bad impression she left on her work mates. I know other witness who are very serious about it too. Even when I was full mentally in, I never thought god would kill me for eating a peice of birthday cake after the party. It’s not like I was celebrating with them. I even ate my free birthday lunch from Olive Garden at work. It was right before I woke up, and I just stopped caring about little things like that. I thought surely god has bigger problems to worry about. I’m so glad I’m free now and can enjoy more of the little things in life now!

When I was at the beginning process of waking up, I noticed at a meeting one night during one of those “motivational” videos about a “real life experience”, that the brother said before he became a witness he worked with one, and every day he would read and study the watchtower. And later when the guy starts studying, he said, I started studying the Bible, but he was just holding up a What does the Bible really teach? book. There was hardly a bible even seen in the video. And I realize how much of a commercial it is for the WT. A Jehovah’s Witness hardly even needs to read the Bible, studying watchtowers publications is far more important to them, since they are taught no one can truly understand the Bible without the F/S help. and it IS viewed practically the same as the Bible.

Those awkward magazines
by Addison0998 ini’m sure we all remember those really weird, awkward magazines we were expected to place in service.
and it was before we are had the website or the thing on the back to fall back on.
imagine being a 12 year old girl, and having to place magazines on god’s view of pornography, sex, homosexuality.

I remember we were placing the magazine about Pornography, and the question was, “Do you think pornography is harmful or harmless, and one guy said, “Oh me and my wife love watching that, it helps us out. LOL we didn’t know what to do.

It’s so irritating to think about. Does anyone remember those magazines?

Will Jehovah’s Witness be discouraged from watching any tv at all soon?
by Addison0998 ini know it sounds kinda stupid and dramatic, but lately there’s been a lot of suggestive content about not watching tv.
the broadcast was telling people that watching tv snares you into getting an attachment to characters, (the one where the crazy sister prayed for a tv character).
and today this watchtower telling people that the only news that should be watching, or even interested in watching is the broadcast or on jw.org news room.

And today this watchtower telling people that the only news that should be watching, or even interested in watching is the broadcast or on jw.org news room. I’ve heard many witnesses say that everything else going on in the world shouldn’t matter to us (palm to face), and that we should only be interested in what’s happening to our brothers and sisters. A few have said it’s the only tv we should be watching. I wonder if it’s going to become increasingly ratical. Perhaps convincing everyone that there is enough content on jw.org to entertain yourself, and there is nothing good left in the world to be watching. Of course, it would take a long time to get to that point, and it’s a very small chance, you just never know with this orginazation.
And of course, everyone was talking about how we have to ignore everything in the news about us, feeling confident it is completely false. But none of them would give the benefit of the doubt to another religion being spoken of negatively. A really desperate watchtower today...

School teachers and jw parents
by caves indid anyone have problems with their parents and teachers butting heads on the jw 'rules' we as kids faced when going to school.
extra circular activities, sitting out for birthdays and holidays... ect.. the jw that raised me was quite a vocal, loud, sometimes violent tempered person and there were many clashes with my teachers.
thank goodness the superintendent took me under his wing, his wife and him for a while.

My sister had a sub once who forced her hand onto her heart to try to get her to say the pledge, not cool, especially since that sort of thing helps witnesses think they are the special people Jesus talks about being persecuted.
I never had any major ones, but school was always so awkward for me. Instead of being excited like other kids for holidays, holiday parties, watching holiday movies, doing fun celebrations, I was the weird religious kid that had to go to the library. I think my teachers probably felt very sorry for me, they were always a bit awkward towards me and I was never close with any of them. I think they wanted to distance themselves from me as a precaution not to do something to offend me. Idk

What immodest clothing have you got in trouble for wearing?
by Addison0998 ini personally have a very distinct sense of style and fashion which many of the fellow jdubs frown upon.
recently, i was told by a few specially self righteous ones that i looked like a prostitute in a pair of white boots!
a pair of 3 inch heeled, just a little taller than the ankle boots, with skirt that came down to my knees and a black long sleeve shirt that came up to my collarbone.

A pair of 3 inch heeled, just a little taller than the ankle boots, with skirt that came down to my knees and a black long sleeve shirt that came up to my collarbone. Do these women even know what hookers dress like? I know that I shouldn’t take it so personally because they are not right in the head but it is such an insulting awful thing to say to someone. My whole life I’ve been getting shamed and picked on just because I don’t want to look like a frumpy, do -right, snitch bitch. And as an elder daughter it’s so much worse because every little thing is inspected, the tightness of your clothes, how short, how flashy.
In my area, there is a huge debate as whether or not women should wear strapless wedding dresses. A CO agreed to do a talk for a couple getting married, and afterwards, he shared in the pioneer meeting that he would have never agreed to give the talk if he had known the sister was going to wear a strapless wedding dress! Now the elders like to know before hand what dress the sister is wearing on her wedding day.
And to share a mans side of things, there was a MS in my hall who liked to wear tighter pants, and people complained about it so much that he had to go out and buy more pants or he would be removed as a MS. And he was not one with much money, so it was kinda sad.
Just another random rant..

do not keep account of the injury?
by Addison0998 ini have a long time “friend” around my age, she and her husband are big sheeple who have been raised to practically worship elders and view their as police angels.
anyways, they recently arranged to have a meeting with the elders to ask for their blessing pretty much to go to a wedding of a relative of hers who is not in the best standing, (she just recently got baptized and her husband was recently reinstated) anyways, the elders told them of course that it was their choice, but warned them that every time they ask for the elders advice on something, it is recorded whether they heeded the advice or not and looked at for things such as ske school, which is a goal they have to do together.
and of course they advised them not to go so they didn’t, especially since they want to go to the ske school, and i guess they only accept people who let people have full control of their lives.

Ok but that’s literally the same thing I just described. And I’m not embellishing the story. Why don’t you just get off my post if you don’t like what I’m talking about. I understand that not everyone is going to agree with each other on here, and I don’t expect to be coddled, but this is the only place I can come to for a place where I can actually relate to somebody about something. And it really pisses me off that you tell me I’m embellishing a story?!? You sound like a Jehovah’s Witness actually, defending them, and then also accusing me of making things up.

But anywho, I realized that the organization is so hypocritical about the scripture at 1 Corinthians 13:5 where it says love does not keep count of the injury, when they keep account of every tiny thing you do and keep it forever and ever. The only thing I could see where it would be important is for people who were responsible for child abuse or domestic abuse, but it doesn’t even do any good since these people are allowed to be functioning members with privledges.
