Perhaps like the account of Dinah's brothers, who promised to allow a foreign prince marry their sister (and to intermarry with others, forming familial alliances) on the condition that all the men of the town get circumcised? Then when the men of the town complied, her brothers exploited their incapacitated state after circumcision to murder all the able-bodied men, take their women, child, herds, possessions, etc? Is that what you meant when you said they should "treat them kindly, as you treat any other"?

Dinah was raped, and her brothers acted accordingly. That doesn't mean that they were right in what they eventually did, and Jacob's exasperated reply to them afterwards stressed the point. Also his eventual blessings for them in his deathbed turned to a curse and indicates a sign of his disapproval for their actions:

5 “Simeon and Levi are brothers—
their swords are weapons of violence.
6 Let me not enter their council,
let me not join their assembly,
for they have killed men in their anger
and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.
7 Cursed be their anger, so fierce,
and their fury, so cruel!

I'm calling BS. You clearly haven't read ANY other contempory legal codes that existed in the region, or you'd know better.

If you're interested in researching the topic, I'd recommend Pamela Barmash's work (she's a lawyer who does scholarly work in historical legal codes, and she's studied and compared the Deuteronomic Code to other laws of the Ancient Near East, eg Mesopotamian, Assyrian, Egyptian, etc). She'd disagree with your assessment.

You're not a JW anymore, so you have no excuse to remain ignorant or repeat the nonsense you were taught by the JWs: do yourself a favor and learn what the historical evidence actually indicates about Hebrew life, i.e. read some introduction to the history you never learned by reading some Devers, Finkelstein, Elaine Pagels, etc, etc.

You got me there, I must admit I don't have any idea on other laws existing about the same timeframe. Nor do I honestly care or have the interest. I am not keen on disproving the Torah, Jews, Jesus, or God and am not actively looking for evidence to the contrary. Reading the old/new testament by themselves, I can confirm on my own conviction that they are a beneficial guide to one's life. But thanks for mentioning these authors. I might take a look in the future but I don't want it forced on me, just like you don't want religious beliefs forced on you. Have a great day.

Point being, God CLEARLY commanded his people to stay away from foreigners, so they were only following orders. It's why most orthodox Jews are STILL reluctant to even TALK to shiksa (Gentile) women, since it might lead to temptation to sin and marriage. Jesus was breaking tradition by daring to talk to a shiksa, but he was playing with temptation by doing so.

I don't think forbidding marriage vs not interacting/staying away from foreigners are the same thing. You can surely interact with them, treating them kindly as you treat any other. Marrying or not marrying foreigners does not prevent that. Remember God reminded them that once they were foreigners as well, so I am sure they are very much familiar how they were treated then (in Egypt), and now how they would like to treat other "foreigners". The problem IMO is man's interpretation of the scripture. (which I admit IMO is very tricky, you definitely need to know the CONTEXT) In the gospels, the Pharisees was an example of a group taking a certain commandment and interpreting it to rule every aspect of everyday life, even the most trivial things, ultimately denying what was essentially important:

16 “Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’ 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? 18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. 22 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.

23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. - Matthew 23

Yeah, but the REASON the Jews were bigoted misogynists who hated others wasn't for shiggles, or suddenly invented by them: they were trying to please Jehovah, since the Torah demanded that eg Jews not mix/marry Gentiles, ordered them to engage in genocidal campaigns to kill Gentiles (note the same prefix: it's not a coincidence), and to treat women and children as their mere property, etc. Their hate is DRIVEN by trying to please God.

On foreigners:

Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt. - Exodus 22:21

Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits. Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.

“Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.

Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt. - Exodus 23:6-9

On treatment of women:

The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward 2 and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said, 3 “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord , but he died for his own sin and left no sons. 4 Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”

5 So Moses brought their case before the Lord , 6 and the Lord said to him, 7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.

8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’” - Numbers 27:11

Please note these commandments were WAY ahead of their time if you compare them with other nations living in that area. Wars and violence were the norm then (well, not much have changed, it still is now).

Now, I can't counter the passages where God commands genocide, even specifically mentioning women and children. It is there. For people who want to believe that there is no God, here is the proof. But for me, it is contradictory. And it is not beyond the realm of impossibility that the one of those generations of scribes and copiers of the holy scripture have altered it, maybe not deliberately, but according to their own interpretation, unknowingly producing passages that isn't "from God".

In any case, we should look for Jesus Christ if we want to know who the Father is. Christ is the only reliable source sent so we can know Yahweh. The Bible is not the word of God. Christ is. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Is what Jesus was doing right or wrong? That's the only question. If what he was doing was right, you can agree with him and join him in what he started, if not, then don't.

Even if Jesus was just a normal Jewish man in the 1CE, no one can argue that he was one of the most noble man who ever lived.

Its hard to invent things like these, a Jewish prophet talking to women, Samaritans, and Greeks, showing respect for them like he would his own kin, things like these Jews will hardly ever imagine inventing. Their hate for these people will prevent them.

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

So that things which are seen - The point of the remark here is, that the visible creation was not moulded out of pre-existing materials, but was made out of nothing. In reference to the grammatical construction of the passage, see Stuart, Commentary in loc. The doctrine taught is, that matter was not eternal; that the materials of the universe, as well as the arrangement, were formed by God, and that all this was done by a simple command. The "argument" here, so far as it is adapted to the purpose of the apostle, seems to be, that there was nothing which "appeared," or which was to be "seen," that could lay the foundation of a belief that God made the worlds; and in like manner our faith now is not to be based on what; "appears," by which we could infer or reason out what would be, but that we must exercise strong confidence in Him who had power to create the universe out of nothing. If this vast universe has been called into existence by the mere word of God, there is nothing which we may not believe he has ample power to perform.
