the family of a jehovah's witness who died after repeatedly refusing blood transfusions can't sue the hospital where doctors begged for a chance to save her life, a state appeals court ruled.. the case, outlined in an opinion by superior court judge jacqueline o. shogan, involves a convergence of religion, medicine and the law.. its focus is on what happened before terri seels-davila, a jehovah's witness missionary, died after giving birth at hahnemann university hospital in philadelphia in november 2010.. seels-davila, who had been serving on mission with her husband in nicaragua, chose hahnemann because of its "bloodless medicine" program for patients who won't agree to having blood transfusions, including jehovah's witnesses, shogan noted.

the treatment plan for seels-davila called for recycling her own blood back into her system.. yet that proved to be inadequate when complications of her delivery required seels-davila to deliver by cesarean section.

The Jehovahs are a fringe Christian cult whose ignorance sentences their adherents to death. No religion worth believing in does that, in my opinion.

@JTSpangler they are no more fringe than any other Christian sect. Each sect has just as many baseless beliefs as the next. It's just when those beliefs are actually acted upon that people realize that religion is pretty silly and dangerous.

@D I'm trying to understand this too! If their religion prohibits blood transfusion and she obviously died from a loss of blood why are they suing? Shouldn't they be going around knocking on peoples' homes instead???

It's civil court, so one or both of the parties are likely footing the bill.

it's interesting that the person of the president of wtbts has figured lesser and lesser since f. franz era.

i was born in the religion in the 90's and i got to know about russel, rutherford, knorr and franz; but i never knew until a couple of years ago that m. henschel was the president in that time.

the same happens with don adams now, the first wt president from the 'other sheep'.

Report cards started as a way for the out of town distributors could report their book sales, this was important to replenish their inventory and to settle their credit accounts with the Society.

I got a new visit by an elder and an ms .

the conversation soon got to spiritual subjects, this elder is company man all through and side kick well he's learning the ropes.

bang mentioned snake antivenin, blood factions, then big geoffrey jackson saying presumptuous, then vin toole in the arc saying he had never heard of theocratic warfare.

then told how god made exceptions to the rules on blood when soldiers ate unbled meat.

i think getting them to agree to a private place would give you an edge (even if the egde of their sword closer to home).

if i'm ever hauled before their kangaroo court i will only go on one of three conditions .1 non jw venue .2 with legal representation .

3 the recording of proceedings.
