  Did you participate in a Drama?

  i am bringing this up because even it was a lot of work, for the majority of the friends this was a rewarding experience.

  camaraderie, joking, costumes, props and when the time came the celebrity status of being in the drama.. back in the 50s and 60s, conventions could be as long as 8 days and from about 1966 the dramas became an integral part of the program.

  we had one per day and the brothers looked forward to their presentation.

  I do remember a similar mishap with the sound at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, it took about 15 minutes to restore the system; the speaker sat very quiet at the stage and I think that the last name of the brother in charge of sound was Tabbert. I was not present but the experience was related to me.

  I was curious about Joyce Holden and found this information regarding her:

  5 August 58	marries David P. Mannhalter. He will become an industrial real estate broker.
  April 64	she and Mannhalter are still members of Jehovah’s Witnesses and knock on front doors to deliver their sermon. "Christ went from city to city," she says, "from door to door, preaching his way."

  i am going to engage on a trip to the past and share with you some of the matters that marked the beginning of the jws persecution in cuba.

  you will be surprised that the pattern that was followed is very similar to what happened in other dictatorial countries.. in the cuban case, i am going to surprise you and tell you that like what happened with hitler; the wt was partially responsible for their clash and confrontation with the cuban government.

  during the early 60s the revolution was fighting for survival and they were willing and ready to demolish any perceived enemy to their cause.. a prime example was their war against the catholic church that was the most influential religious entity in the country; it took the supreme leader only a few public discourses to send the vast majority of clergy packing and back to their country, in this case spain.. the jehovah’s witnesses were an insignificant minority but they over estimated their importance and displayed a belligerent attitude, it was known that this was a us based religion and an easy target to connect them with the cia.

  Even here in USA the Watchtower was never a religion and for years the JWs went from house to house preaching that fact.

They stated that in 1996 there were 70,000 practitioners in Cuba, and that since then the number has grown to 90,000. The number is far greater than is cited in several studies of religion in Cuba. There has been a steady increase despite the fact that the community has lost many members through emigration. Jehovah Witnesses are frequently approved to travel to the US as refugees. The organization has not petitioned the government to be officially recognized as a religion. They are not a member of the state sanctioned Council of Churches. Because of doctrinal differences the organization does not get involved in ecumenical efforts. The leaders presented that they have a minimum amount of friction with the government. The members steer clear of any involvement in politics. They are not allowed to establish individual "Kingdom Halls" as places of worship. They said that their members hold regular meetings and bible study classes without difficulty in private homes throughout the island. Some of these residences can accommodate several hundred people. The leaders said that even without having official status as a legal gathering, the local authorities have given verbal permission to hold the meetings. The leaders indicated that they are very respectful of their neighbors and the meetings have not been the subject of complaints.

  The results of the recent Presidential trip to Cuba are mixed, the people love it and it gave then hope; the Government didn't like a bit. Maybe like two days after his departure the official newspaper published a strong rebuttal to his last speech and they even called him negro in a derogatory tone.

  Overall I think the trip was a smart move.

  The two elders threaten my sister again

  as i reported here in this forum, some time ago, my sister was constantly harried by two elders so as to be submitted to a judiciary committee for apostasy.

  these two elders were constantly hounding her in the street when she walks to go to her job.

  so she had to send them a notary letter in which she wrote that she would attend the judiciary committee only with her attorney.

  our last conversation was him yelling at me because i "loved the gays".

  translation, i pointed out that nobody chooses their sexuality.

  i've been shunned since daing last september, and really for a year or so after visiting my df'ed brother.

  to make mistakes is human, to make mistakes dictated by faith is also human but foolish.

  i am pretty sure that as jws we all have made decisions that later on we regretted, in some cases they have been minor and in others they had profound effect in our life; major items were like blood and education related.

  i am going to post one decision that was a major disaster for the person involved and if you know of something similar please contribute.. in a spanish speaking country where "machismo" was the norm and it was common for a man to have several mistresses, there was a sister married to a wealthy man and they had four children.

  Quite right, if I remember correctly this sad affair was triggered by some Watchtower article that some people took to the extreme; as usual they were making decisions for others, they were not affected personally by the results.

  For me: my biggest blunder was related to my children education, I was not against higher education but since there was so little time it was a waste; so I made no efforts for them to improve themselves.

  Luckily enough they were not drinking the "kool aid" and pursued careers on their own. They have been very successful and we have a very good relationship.
