Attorneys take these cases on a contingency basis, their motivation is mostly monetary. They will settle when they reach a figure that they like and avoid a long court case that is going to be very, very expensive. Remember WT counsel is in house and already paid for.

you will be surprised that the pattern that was followed is very similar to what happened in other dictatorial countries.. in the cuban case, i am going to surprise you and tell you that like what happened with hitler; the wt was partially responsible for their clash and confrontation with the cuban government.
during the early 60s the revolution was fighting for survival and they were willing and ready to demolish any perceived enemy to their cause.. a prime example was their war against the catholic church that was the most influential religious entity in the country; it took the supreme leader only a few public discourses to send the vast majority of clergy packing and back to their country, in this case spain.. the jehovah’s witnesses were an insignificant minority but they over estimated their importance and displayed a belligerent attitude, it was known that this was a us based religion and an easy target to connect them with the cia.

Going back to the Cuban saga, I will re state that a lot of unconventional things happened during that time. Sometimes the most trusted brothers proved to be not that faithful, I will give you an example.
When there were only 2 DOs serving the whole country, one of them was a brother of humble origins, well liked and very capable; on top of that he was a very handsome man. He got married way up, he was a country boy and got married to a socialite from the capital, real royalty.
His duties during that time included picking up the remittances and cash from the circuits and congregations in his district. He will take them to the Branch and return with the receipts showing that there were delivered. To the shock of the majority of the brothers it was discovered that he was pocketing some of the money by making false remittances and creating fake receipts upon returning.
This was a major scandal and he was disfellowshipped, in time he came to USA, asked for reinstatement and was told that prior to that he had to return the money that he stole. I don't know all the details but it seems like he did it because he was eventually reinstated.

Sad news from the Spanish Front
by Hecce ini think the majority of forum friends are aware of the existence of a vibrant watchtower opposition in the spanish field.
for about 13 years the extj forum was probably the main instrument for that endeavor, sadly the couple sponsoring that site decided to close it at the end of last year.
it seems like they were overwhelmed with personal obligations and responsibilities; they were covering a 100% of the expenses without any outside cooperation or publicity.. after the closing of their forum, some of the friends started new sites to keep the flow of information alive.
