Why are you questioning the faithful slave?
BAM! Good little dub-robot!
i posted the question last night, to try to get some jw's take on the matter.
of course most of them are really showing how brainwashed they are, by quoting the letter almost word for word, gas prices rising etc.. i personally feel that its wonderful, as my parents are getting older and they've been doing 3 meetings a week since the early 1960's.
the way i posted the question, i kind of insinuated that i was a jw struggling with the loss of the meeting.

i'm sure most of us here are aware that oil speculators are behind the ever increasing gas prices here in the us............what do you think should or can be done?
do you think the government should get involved, for instance?
be interested in what anyone has to say or is thinking about this topic other than "it's horrible".. terri.

i have been seeing reports on this over the day so thought i would bring it here.. austrian man admits holding daughter captive.
an elderly austrian man has confessed to holding his daughter captive in a basement cell for 24 years and fathering seven children with her, police said monday.
the 73-year-old man allegedly held his daughter elisabeth, now 42, and three of their children in a soundproof chamber below an apartment block in amstetten, a town near the austrian alps.
Sigmund Freud was Austrian.
explains why i don't like old Sigmund..........I have always favored Carl Jung, who is Swiss.
has this economy been very tough on you and your family???.
how are you coping with high gas prices and the cost of living?
?.
let cable go, keep our heat at 62, one car, just about making it. car is a small four cylinder, and is basically used to get back and forth to work, and home. monday, i put $40 in and it just filled my tank. we don't go out anywhere, grocery shop as carefully as possible and pack lunches.

hi.. just wondering what made you take the final leap out of the org?
was it doctrinal in that certain things just didnt add up or was it because of the actions of people in the org.
that made you leave?
in my case, it was both. i was in from age 14 to 42, and i always had doubts, could never quite swallow everything taught by the WTS. It was a cumulative of both things, and, the last year I was in I knew it was time to go.........I was called in to a semi-formal meeting over something I supposedly said to a sister, and it quickly turned quite ugly. Funny thing, one of the elders in on that meeting who was defending the sister is now out and his wife and i are best friends, always were. they live close to me, and i regularly am at their house. he and i made our peace over what was the last straw in personality clashes that made me leave. in my heart i am happy it happened, because it made it easier to leave. And, of course, I lived through 1975, with the accompanying castigation of the sheep by the FDS, and then, when they changed the generation meaning in 1995, to me, it was like another slap in the face. I left physically 2 1/2 years later.

i'm considering reading this book and was wondering whether anyone from jwd has already read it and would like to share their thoughts on it.
being ever-the-skeptic, i'm intrigued by a philosophy that appears to embrace reality and the here-and-now, but i'm wary of the new-age-y-sounding-ness of it as well.
what do "believers" think of the book?
Mystery, I am familiar with JT and feel much the same about him as you do. I agree with the point you make that the book is a stepping stone, but, wow, what a giant leap, imo. As Meeting Junkie says, Tolle has a wonderful gift in that he makes it much easier to understand by his clear, consise explanations..........believe me, I, too have read and read and of course, everything you read gives you a little more understanding, it's a compilation of bits and pieces to a puzzle........but, Tolle helped me to be able to tie alot of loose ends up, and lots of aha, that's what this or that author or person meant.
Oompa, you are too funny.........big kidder........
Burn The Ships - very much so........(syncretic)
this is sort of a response to lex talonis' message but i thought it warranted a separate topic.
i am both offended and encouraged by his suggestion that most of us here are just whiners.
i think it is encouraging that he wants the watchtower society's mentally damaging message stopped.
There is a difference between whining and venting. Venting can keep you sane, mentally, in certain circumstances. This site is here for venting, asking questions you were or are still not able to ask as a JW. There are MANY kind, compassionate people here who will listen and help. Welcome Aboard!!!
Honesty, did you see in the news about that Church of Christ minister who has t-shirts and purple bracelets to discourage whining? lol.......thought it was kind of cute myself.

i made a big effort to get to the watchtower study today.
i have not been to the meetings much for months, but i figured this was a pretty historic "study" and i wanted to see reactions and how it would go down locally.
well a few things struck me as a bit odd in the study itself, and in the audience response as well.
the older witnesses have been well conditioned not to rock the boat...........i came in in '71, and i well remember the excitement that '75 would be IT. lol.............i think you are spot on about the WTS carefully, "calculatingly" working the story so as to keep everything on the down low. no need to stir the pot, or bring bad memories to the surface. they are, after all the masters of denial. i sat at the assembly where they castigated "us" for running ahead about '75.........i won't forget, and i'm sure there are many who won't. but, i'm out, and I am free to speak and think contrary to the WTS. pity the poor brainwashed ones still caught in the lie.

an elder read a letter last night, and i practically giggled through the whole thing.
his poorly manufactured gravitas was most amusing, given the ludicrous content of the letter.. it seems the society is pissed that the friends aren't choosing the "recommended lodging" when going to conventions.
i remembered two important details about the letter.
I'd call good hotels the very first night to try to get in, and somehow they always seemed to be full (before midnight of the Tuesday when they were first posted).
not hard to figure out, Goph. those "in the know" ahead of time would hook their friends up, and of course, predictable to human "nature" they would share with their friends, yada yada yada.......

just wondering what anyone's personal experiences have been with this book/topic..........bit of an update if you will........it has changed my life and i can truthfully say that as he says in the book, once you "awaken" you will never be the same again..........i.e., once you realize what the ego does and how we all have been raised within its framework, it changes you.........anyone else care to share?
