BT, I will confess that I have not really looked into the hydrogen issue yet. I just freaked out when I first heard Bush talking about the moon and Mars, then, when I saw this thread, I let my emotions get the better of me, and got on my soap box. There is also wind power to think about, haven't done much looking into that yet, either, but, I agree with you, if money and minds were focused, as they so often are on other things, like the moon and Mars, it's amazing how quickly they can get things done. And, contrary to what some people may think, I do try to walk and live my talk. I recycle as much as my circumstances permit me to. I recycle at work also. My car is ten years old. My apartment uses electric power. I give my books and used clothing to others when I can. In little ways, I try. At this point, I can't buy my own home, but, if I did, I'd try my best to make it as energy efficient as possible. I'm not against technology, per se, I'm against waste of natural resources. I'm for trying to find sustainable alternatives that do as little damage to the earth, etc. and other people as much as possible.

The moon as a possible energy source?
by Big Tex ini saw this article and what i found intriguing was the brief mention of moon-based helium 3 as a source for energy.
is this different from helium found on the earth?
has anyone heard or read a discussion on this?

Big Tex, for instance, we have SOLAR energy. It won't be easy at first, but, once in place, it will be so much healthier and cheaper! There's one book I'd recommend anyone to read: Solviva: How to Grow $500,000.00 on One Acre and Peace On Earth by Anna Eady............then there's another book I have: The Great Book of Hemp. Did you know that Henry Ford built a car out of hemp fiber and that hemp oil is better for us than Omega3, from fish? Hemp fibres are longer and stronger than cotton fibres. Those are just TWO I can think of off the top of my head................Dennis Weaver's "Earthship" home is built out of old tires, aluminum cans, and rammed earth. He uses solar to heat and cool his home. I could continue.....................but, I want to also apologize for hijacking your thread. I didn't mean to start a war here, but, it really pissed me off when Gita got so snotty, and started name calling. I apologize for my part in it.

I'm sitting here, in my chair, at my desk, at work, and as I turn around to look out the big picture window of our office..............I see SNOWFLAKES falling, again! It's soooo pretty! We got anywhere's from 5 to 10 inches last night in about 8 hours, and they pretty much cancelled school thru the whole state................Morton, I work for the Board of Ed, in the transportation dept. It's part of my job to make sure the kids get to and from school SAFELY. I was thinking over the situation of why they cancel so quickly now, (they even cancelled last week because of extreme cold) and I have come to realize that it is partly because many of the parents are so quick to threaten the BOE with a lawsuit! I cannot tell you how many parents I've had call and say: "if something happens to my child, you will be hearing from my lawyer!" It's sad. Also, another reason, I think, is the world has gotten much more crowded than it was when we were kids, and more complicated, and let's face it, most of the kids today would rather sit in front of a computer or a TV set than go outside a sled or build snowmen or forts.

Stupid, Dumb,....of all the things I've ever done.....
by Sentinel inlast night (of course, night..it had to be night) i was using a small plastic bathroom cup, and also walked over to flush the toilet.
suddenly, the cup slipped from my fingers and was sucked into neverland.
the most horid feeling came over me, and i thought "that cup is not going to go down".

Sentinel, that wasn't dumb..........it was an accident............they happen to all of us! However, Dan, that was foolhardy! There is a simple way of removing a broken bulb from a light fixture.........take a raw potato, cut it in half and push it onto the glass/metal parts. It should stick into the potato and you can then unscrew it from the fixture. Oh, and do turn the power off.
And, I read down further, and saw SimpleSally offered the same great suggestion! Some of these old fashioned home remedies are so sensible, aren't they?

Fellow posters............we already have the technology for sustainable energy resources here ON EARTH! We don't need H3. The problem isn't finding more energy, the problem is that the present "system" of thinking and money making, i.e. greed keeps it from being employed on a large scale.

Dearest Gita..........,
I just love how you technological types get your backs up and resort to name calling to intimidate your fellow earth citizens who are looking for alternatives to destructive technology. The bottom line for these kinds of technology is to make as much money as quickly as possible. The earth is in serious trouble already, because of this thinking. Does it really make sense to you to extend this type of thinking outwards to the other planets in our solar system?

Shamus, this has been a real old fashioned "winter" here in Connecticut, too. The temp. hasn't gone above freezing in weeks.................this last week it was single digits to 0 at night, and during the day in the low teens. We just got a nice storm last night, only 5 inches of snow, but they cancelled school because the darn parents are so sue happy and half the people on the roads don't drive carefully! To make things even more of an adventure, my heater core decided to crap the bed and now even the blowers aren't working.............so, I look like an eskimo driving along with no heat, my breath frosting the inside of the windshield up.................LOL! How's that for making you feel less alone? Keep your sense of humor and thank God/dess for the internet!
Warm hugs,
Terri

These are critical times, easy to deal with. I work for an aerospace company. I love it. :-)
ah, yes, and your personal "long term employment" interest has nothing to do with your atavistic attitude.............................
