More acceptable (no slandering all and sundry) than the Borg !
their fundamental beliefs are much like jehovah's witnesses sans the paranoia, authoritarianism, stifling rules, and end-times enthusiasm.
you don't even have to become a bible student to be saved, you could be an idol worshipping heathen and still get resurrected in the milenium.
if i still believed in the divine inspiration of the scriptures, i would be a bible student.

Don't blame the doctors for your family member's decision not to receive a blood transfusion and your decision to stand by and support their denial...
January 10, 2014
"DETROIT, MI -- The Michigan court of Appeals ruled in favor of doctors Friday in the case of a woman who died at St. John Hospital in 2007 after refusing a blood transfusion because she was a Jehovah's Witness.
The estate of Gwendolyn Rozier sued several physicians and St. John Hospital, arguing that medical malpractice led to the need for a blood transfusion, and that doctors knew about her religious convictions but failed to prevent the loss and weakening of her blood after a kidney transplant.
Many Jehovah's Witnesses don't accept blood transfusions because of interpretations of bible passages that direct followers to "abstain from blood,"according to JW.org , a website run by the Jehovah's Witnesses organization Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.
Rozier, 55, of Oak Park, received a kidney from her daughter in a Aug. 15, 2007 surgery and returned to the hospital three days later complaining of abdominal pain.
Doctors found that her body was rejecting the kidney and could not save the transplant, in part because Rozier signed documents denying consent for a blood transfusion, and her husband stood by the denial, according to courtdocuments.
The transplanted kidney was removed and Rozier died Aug. 29, 2007.
Rozier's estate argued that by prescribing blood-thinning medications, ordering daily removal of blood plasma and failing to recognize signs of internal bleeding, doctors contributed to the need for a blood transfusion and to her death.
But a Macomb County Circuit Court judge dismissed the case and the appeals court upheld that decision Friday.
"Reasonable minds could not disagree that reasonable efforts were not made to avoid Rozier’s death and the resulting damages," Judges Pat M. Donofrio and Jane M. Beckering wrote in the court opinion. "The trial court did not err by concluding that the doctrine of avoidable consequences precluded plaintiff from recovering damages for Rozier’s death."
Judge Mark T. Boonstra in a concurring opinion added:
"Our opinion should not be interpreted as reflective of any viewpoint regarding religion... In this sad case, Gwendolyn Rozier and her family made a choice, and decided to forego a blood transfusion that likely would have saved her life...
"The choice was hers to make, whether for reasons of religion, or for altogether different reasons entirely, or in fact for no reason at all. But as in any aspect of life, where choices result in consequences, Ms. Rozier’s choice resulted in a consequence for her. Sadly, that consequence was her death."
A lawyer for Rozier's estate told the Associated Press the case will be taken to a higher court and that the doctors who treated her were sought out because they had experience working with Jehovah's Witnesses."

i realise that starting this thread may make me as popular as a ginger stepchild but was there any wts publication that you liked, or at least comfortably tolerated?.
my memory may be deceiving me but i think the greatest man book was pretty good, leaving out the gruesome detail of the crucifixtion and wts doctrine.. also, can anyone tell me the list of books that ray franz authored/co-authored?.
thanks.
The James book was apparently authored by Ray Franz and Ed Dunlop that were also the main contributers to the "aid to bible understanding" big blue book, which was my favorite.
Unfortunately after the witch hunt in bethel that kicked Ray, Ed,,their wives and many others out on the streets of NY, for private bible study groups in bethel, the cult mentality of blind obedience prevailed. The WBTS are in apostasy !
looking at all the doctrinal teachings over the last five years, it's almost impossible for any person of conscience who originated such doctrine to do a complete u-turn and change it when the passage of time has proved beyond doubt that doctrine is no longer credible.. i say this with reference to the generation of 1914. they were so sure.
it was part of the awake!
masthead for decades that those who saw the events of 1914 would also see the great tribulation.. .
TruthSeeler ***We're not dealing with sincere elderly anointed who genuinely believe what they teach but scam artists******
Yup, As said before, victims of a failed concept, desperate to keep the house of cards from toppling.
The SDA church that preceded CTR, used the invisible "investigated judgement" teaching/ dogma/excuse (commonly know as "IJ" in SDA forums ) when Jesus did not returning 1844 is also an embarrassment for their leadership. however, the SDA corrected itself somewhat with "Question on Doctrines" "QOD" as they responded to questions put to them from cult "specialist" Walter Martin. The WWC (world wide church of god) made similar corrections in doctrines to be more acceptable within main stream Christianity.
It will be interesting to see how the "Big Seven" In Brooklyn will survive as they transition to JW.ORG , will they just kick the can down the road for another 10 Years as a short term fix, ? or make the changes needed and suffer the Obvious consequences.
Just sayin :)
according to the bible man was created a little lower in abilities to that of angels.
this means that angels are a tad higher in regards to their perfection.
perhaps they have a word for it in the spirit realm as we mere mortals do not.
God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can't. If a thing is free to be good it's also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.
Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata -of creatures that worked like machines- would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that they've got to be free.
Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently, He thought it worth the risk. (...) If God thinks this state of war in the universe a price worth paying for free will -that is, for making a real world in which creatures can do real good or harm and something of real importance can happen, instead of a toy world which only moves when He pulls the strings- then we may take it it is worth paying. C S LEWIS
IMHO ...All issues are resolved in this MORTAL creation, before it is transformed to immortality. Suffering and Evil can't be immortalized.
