Flat earth vs round earth

Waton- actually that's the kind of misinformation I was referring to. Even if well intentioned, it's wrong. Given sufficient distance on a flat plane, you have the same effect with the horizon. In fact, almost all math works the same when you are just one observer on/near the surface (near meaning not in space)

I'm not a flat earth proponent, as I have mentioned, but bad science doesn't help anyone.

The question is though, who cares? Rounders think Flatters are stupid, Flatters thing Rounders are deceived, but aside from ego issues, who really cares? We navigate by flat earth models on land, sea and air, we build according to flat earth models, and so much more but really if you are not doing that, and the model you use for what you're doing works, what's the difference?

The world could use a little less US vs THEM.

Cofty- I think the cheese moon theory is full of holes. I guess that makes it holy.. but I would be open to trying some of your holy space cheese if there were such a thing. Mmmmm space Swiss Cheese Mmmm

Jrjw, so he's on some kind of mix between JW and flat earthism.. That's a strange mix but stranger things have happened.

I would agree with the idea of lots of stupid YouTube videos out there, lots of misinformation but then you have people like Bill Nye (the science guy) also lying and giving false information as a defense of round earth. It doesn't help things when people on both sides are lying and/or making stuff up. I'm no flat earther or ball earther but you have to admit, we've been been fed round earth since being born, just like many have been fed JW info since the same. You can't prove the shape with just a book, that's someone else's opinion. Its worth doing your own research and experiments. If you can't do that for whatever reason, then use your own eyes and observe the world around you in as many ways as you can, and ponder over what you see. And I'm not talking about the apparent flatness. Look up, down, across, everywhere. Take note. Review "proofs" of the various claims but most importantly, prove it to yourself to whatever extent possible. If you can't prove it, then its just information from outside sources that cannot be confirmed. Seek truth and keep seeking, it will find you and you might be surprised by what you see.

While my views here are irrelevant for this thread, I think it's important for each person to examine thoroughly the evidence for ANY claim in which they find themselves highly interested or controlled by, whether religious, scientific, or otherwise.

Flat earth society may just be controlled opposition (look it up) so they have lots of inaccurate information. Alot of stuff that NASA used to teach has been changed too and some of their current stuff is probably wrong. Doesn't mean it's flat or its not.

My suggestion to you is to prove it to yourself, one way or another. Do experiments that prove it. Keep in mind that an earth that was much larger than we're told would have some similar results in some experiments and observations to a flat earth. Lots of nice YouTube vids on the topic, lots of garbage too. This is one of those things that noone can prove to you, you have to see it for yourself.

Question is, does it matter? If so, why?

What if NASA lies about everything, the earth is flat, the sun is close, and the moon too.. Now what?

Ill leave you with a final question that's not about the shape, but about the motion:

Why is there absolutely no way to measure any of the various motions of the earth from the surface, no device whatsoever that we've been able to invent can see the earths motions however a simple gyro can see a airplane or ship in all its various motions, on the surface and above.Einstein recognized this fact, maybe it means something. (and no, the focoult pendulum doesn't show it either)

I'm not a flat earther or large earth proponent. Nor a ball earther.

Matthew 24:34 not fulfilled in the first century

i was discussing with an elder the generation teaching and telling him when jesus christ says in matthew 24:34 “truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.” he was referring to the generation from the first century in 33 ad and these events that were to take place took place with the destruction of jerusalem in 70 ad.

now the elder tells me to go back to a few verses to from verses 29-33 which read: .

“immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened,+ and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.+ 30 then the sign of the son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief,+ and they will see the son of man+ coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Many line comments but I just want to post something short and to the point.

Luke 21 has a parallel account, at vs 8, Jesus says "Look out that you are not misled, For many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time is near.’ Do not go after them.

Regardless of what the elder said,I hope this makes a glaringly obvious point to anyone who still pays attention to the organization and its teachings.

Also yes, many generations have passed since the 1st century so take that however you want but "this generation" is not ever to come again.

How many anointed have come and gone; how many remain?

just wondering if there is any data about how many anointed there were in say 1914, and considering most would have passed 'beyond the veil' already, are the jw's numbers adding up?

we know there are more in 2017 then there were in 2016, but just where are we in the grand total column?.

Would you convert if you had not seen the miracles yourself? Basically you are talking about serious apostasy with potentially death as its outcome, you better be right and if you had not seen people being healed, raised from the dead, feeding of thousands from just a little food etc, then you would be very hesitant to take peoples word for it. Then again, maybe the biblical contradictions put people off.

i checked the watchtower library and i didn’t find anything on gingerbread man cookies.. .

You guys just made me realize that I miss the cookies that I used to enjoy as a kid, when we did Christmas (I wasnt born in)..

All sorts of cookies but especially the ginger-bread cookies were nice.

Common Figure of Speech/Colloquialism?

1. the messiah said that three nights would be involved with his time in the "heart of the earth".. 2. there are some who believe that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with the resurrection taking place on the 1st day of the week.. 3. of those, there are some who believe that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb.. 4. however, those two beliefs allow for only 2 nights to be involved.. 5. to account for the discrepancy, some of the above say that the messiah was using common figure of speech/colloquial language of the time, i.e., that it is was common to forecast or say that a day or a night would be involved with an event when no part of the day or no part of the night could occur.. 6. in order for someone to legitimately say that it was common, they would have to know of more that 1 example to make that assertion.. 6. for the purpose of this topic, i would like to ask if there are any 6th day of the week crucifixion advocates who think the messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language of the period?.

I can't answer the question of Jewish idioms or whether it was normal to say 3 days, 3 nights and mean something else but I can say this:

I'm not referring to the use of symbols when I say this but if the bible was written in ways that make what it says different from what it means then we shouldn't base our belief system on it. Otherwise, at that point, you can just do what JWs and other religions do, and make it up as you see fit and start any number of cults based on your newest understanding.

IMHO, if god wanted to tell us something, he would do it. He wouldn't make it so obfuscated so as to hide the message in shrouds of discrepancies, leaving people to figure it out on their own. Some may counter: "yeah but he can give you holy spirit to understand.." to which I say " then we don't need the written word at all, he can just make us understand and the holy spirit can teach us all things as Jesus said"

Too bad it's all nonsense, as the many serious discrepancies (like the one cited in the OP) make super-abundantly clear.

Well, seeing as every year that goes by without the big A, millions more will have to be killed when it does come, I'm so glad that big J is patient, not having Armageddon be too early, so we can join the organization instead of being destroyed.

wait, what?

Also, I would love to find out what, if anything, happens if a regular publisher mentions or implies big A not coming by 2075 (or perhaps, not coming soon)
