  Local elder dies of starvation

  well , not really.. our hall recently had a secret collection for our head elder who is almost on the verge of becoming homeless.

  i guess he lost some cleaning contracts because his clients were just sick of his no shows because of his pioneer work.

  there is always something more important to do than earn a living.. this is the same assholes he is always shaming people to not doing enough.

  what scripure was it said.. "if a man does not work, let him not eat" or some such..

  he wants to be like the widow.. great example.

  in context, it seems jesus was using the widow as an example of how the religious leaders were devouring the houses of widows. look at mark 12 and the parallel accounts to see this. he never said anything positive about the widow giving more than the others, no commendation only observation.

  this is my first post, i will introduce myself later.

  first of all, i must say that english is not my mother tongue (i'm spanish), so excuse me if i make any mistake.. do you think that some people simply can't cope with being outside the jws?

  some of them are too worldlyphobic to be around non-jws, too dependent on a fixed set of rules in order to carry on with their lives, too dependent on the hope of paradise and resurrection, too unable to leave their personal comfort zone within the organization.

  IMHO I wouldnt classify military as a high control group (maybe in china or N.K.) you have more freedom there than most high control religions but yes you have to show for work and not do stupid stuff that makes them look bad to the general public.

  also they dont care what you think / believe as long as it doesnt interfere with your duties.

  totally agree on other points tho.

  and that from the folks who used to say religion is a snare and a racket!

  well at least that was one teaching they had right.

  I figure if theres a god who "is love" then he realizes that there is no objective way for me to prove his existence so he will have to prove it. if my salvation is contingent on believing and he provides insufficient (i.e. none) evidence then how is that love? an ancient collection of errorful writings are not proof enough anymore (back when i was all in, it was)

  Singing todays WT

  the jist was that we all should sing.

  then the first 6 or 8 paragraphs describe how early bible accounts have trained and set aside musicians to do the singing while everyone else listened.. the songs they have put out have no soul, rhythm, or soothing melodies as a whole.

  the old hymns are some real music, even if you don't agree with the "teachings".. there is no admission of poetry using archaic language at times for affect or to add to the rhyme, they have to have everything agree with the grey bible.. anyone speak foreign languages?

  glad i missed it (or rather, i didnt miss a thing)

  anyone notice that some songs dont seem to be appropriate for the "earthly" class i mean, were all the JWs bought for a price? if only the "annointed" then why is everyone singing about how they were bought?

  theres a few like this that i noticed.

  i just adlib the songs cuz i cant sing that trash they have in the book, its nonsense. noone has noticed so far, apparently.

  alot of what ive seen in south america is falling apart and looks a bit too much like formed concrete falling apart. im rather an expert at that since my stairs look just like them!

  Spacy question - ISS and gyros - what u think?

  lots of spacy questions lately so i'll add mine here.

  theres a video of one of the guys on the international space station doing some experiments with a few portable cd players, using them as gyroscopes when turned on.

  it was interesting to see.

  Islandman you do realize that my comparison was one nasa satellite image vs another nasa satellite image and not maps, right? that is to say that in one image, north america takes up nearly the entire 1/2 globe and in others, its smaller than that, the scaling is off. review kairos pics from earlier in this thread, he posted some of the pics I'm talking about. these are easy to find using google and are official nasa imagery.

  you do have some interesting observations about maps though... who would have ever thought that people would try to portray themselves as being more than they are...? nothing like internet forums, thank goodness!
