Public or Group Prayer As A Weapon
by TMS inone of the sillier notions taught at km schools is the concept of "teaching through prayer.
" the idea is that words supposedly directed to jehovah god through christ jesus are actually aimed at individuals who are in a position to say "amen" to the supplication.
for example, in a judicial setting brother pompous opens the hearing in prayer: "dear jehovah, we ask your blessing on this arrangement.

Great post. This has been done for a long time even before it was a "thing" but the point here is even if someone was genuine or the prayer eluding to things that were truly troubling the person, the reality is that it is contrived. That is unequivocally the opposite of what JW's are taught to do. -

Any former elders brains I could pick?

I don't think pointing out statistics will help @BarelyThere at this point.
Don't know her situation. Without the threat of sanctions had she been able to part ways with her husband does any of this happen?
People feel trapped. Marriage is hard. I don't condone splitting a whim but there are times when ppl are seriously distraught. You don't know someone until you live with them.
Stats simply aren't going to help her. Not in my opinion at least.

@BarelyThere
I concur with @stired I PM'd you as much. Unfortunately this is how they'll see it. If you marry particularly to this other brother, it will likely extend the length of time.

@Diogenesister my thought is along the lines of @jookbeard in that the rationales that are made are baffling. To think that I once did exactly the same is honestly embarrassing. -

Thanks so much for your kind words. It's Ironic you mention this. I've been feeling sad and withdrawn and wondered why. I've been trying to put my finger on what it is. You're email couldn't have been more timely. I watched the latest JW broadcasting and was really moved by the story of the kingdom hall/assembly hall that was being built but was held up due to a lack of sand for concrete. The story indicated how Jehovah showed his blessing via a typhoon washing up the needed sand. It made me think of the typhoon that washed away 33 lives in the Philippines a year earlier 22 of which were huddled in the kingdom hall likely praying for their lives.
You've helped me realize what's missing...
Friend's who can think for themselves and aren't utterly brainwashed.
Sincerely,
Your Name
I'm joking of course but I swear that's what you feel like replying with.

New anti-spam measures
by Simon inwe've been bombarded by spam a number of times in the last few weeks and last night was the worst yet.
i already built some tools to make removing it easier because i think the longer it stays up, the more it encourages it, but still it's annoying to see and interferes with the operation of the site.
fortunately, we were able to catch and remove it relatively quickly.. i've now implemented and deployed some additional protection measures which i hope will better detect and block it from appearing in the first place.

@Simon
Not that he needs it necessarily but in Simon's defense there is no application that is impervious to exploits. Give the time and circumstance it's always possible. Hence it is always a constant battle. No magic wand is the point.
How long have you been using Google's captacha? I love that thing btw.

elders wife swapping question
by unstopableravens ini hear of these stories of elders swapping wives, i remember when i was young hearing of three elders in florida doing this and getting dfed.
my question is this how is it possible to bring this up in conversation?
it seems impossible, how can there be multi elders that know each other willing and the wives?

I know personally of special committees for handling these cases. I will say this the stories are big fish stories in that at least what I know of them, they were never whole congs. More like 2 to 3 couples. Usually involved alcohol, usually pretty young and usually not that seedy or contrived. What I mean is it was usually good ol' fashioned being amorous. -

Dear Jehovah's witnesses, a question....
by punkofnice indear jehovah's witnesses and on-the-fencers.. isn't it even a little bit obvious that the watchtower organisation doesn't have jehovah's blessing?.
if it did, why are your leaders, the governing body, asking you for your money and assets?
surely, jehovah would provide for the organisation without having to use your hard earned money and assets?.

@Finkelstein
You're totally right. we've discussed the same many times. The issues are that sooner or later you're effected by the Pharisaical manner in which the GB rules. Yes a joke but sometimes I wonder if you can even seen their faces anymore with the size of their scripture containing cases.
The point is at some point it becomes not worth it for the stress of always worrying about every step (not talking sin here just will this offend someone) you take, every word you say. I'm not saying it isn't good to consider others of course it is but it has gone so far beyond that. The bros are afraid to breath.
When guilt and fear are the initial feeling for everything you do that's a problem. Worse yet most don't realize that's the case. They're so much in a fog they think they're happy. They'll swear they are. I know as that's exactly what I did. If honest though you start to realize that a lifetime of being told you're basically not doing enough it wears on you and you see it for what it is.
At that point there's no conditional friendship worth that anguish.

To me this seams like more than a coincidence ...
by Greybeard insorry if this has been discussed before.... for a few days now, this question has been going through my mind.
what was the date the governing body took the sole role of the faithful and discreet slave and how close was it to the end of the mayan calendar in december of 2012?
i looked it up on jwfactes.com and sure enough, checkout the date on this article:.

More likely someone of the anointed had a beef with the governing body and so they said, "oh really" now you are no longer a member of this FDS.
I've come to realize there's not been a single thing that became "new light" that didn't end up being merely fallout from some event. Literally like every thing.
