"We dont mourn the dead"
by HereIgo ini remember a brother making the above statement in regards to an elderly sister who had passed.
he stated we don't mourn or even visit grave sites because we have a hope that jah will resurrect the dead.
it seemed really creepy at the time, hell, even jesus wept when lazarus died.

I attended my not JW Aunt's wedding a couple of years ago. My aged parents, JWs, attended, the deceased being Mums sister. It was a secular memorial service They reserved seats for her up the front with other blood relatives, the deceased's children. She declined and sat up the back.
It was a really nice service, lots of family photo's and talks about Aunty. She was a really good community minded well liked and respected lady. Lots of tears and hugs, but no tears from the last sister my Mum. My folks came across so cold it embarrassed me deeply, especially as I had attended primarily to support them. Aunty had died from complications following heart surgery. When I tried to discuss with Dad some of Aunty's good works which I had previously not known his response was "it was probably the blood transfusion that killed her".
I am still angry. Still it was this which finally woke me from 40 years of being a JW apologist. I could never quite make the mental break until this moment.
Not looking forward to attending Dad's service when he goes, I will have to be good, I promised wifey.

Hello people,
I was born in but long time faded. I think I hold current JWs to a higher standard than they now maintain.
Here's the thing; my father is very old, in his nineties and been a Jdub for over 60 years and even made it to Elder till he got too old.On a recent visit my siblings and Dad were saying how wonderful that Veterans Affairs were. Dad served in the army in WW2 before drinking the Koolaid. Any how Veterans Affairs came around and assessed his house and fitted him out with hand rails, auto hose reel and electric stand me up chair. Adjustable bed is next. All on free loan until he passes. He has also been on free health care since retirement. Thank you Aus Govt and Veterans Affairs. I have no problem with looking after ex service people but I have long thought it odd that they (staunch JWs) would accept this help with pride and Dad even said "I got shot at and caught Malaria so my conscience is clear".
What happened to pacifism and "no part of the world" etc?
I did not pursue the subject as there is no glory in arguing with frail aged people. Just bemused that's all. Any thoughts people?

Dear oh dear.
In my second post in this conversation I quite clearly said the policy I am subject to does cover Child Abuse matters.
I work in a school and it is a well formulated policy unlike that of the Watchtower.
A good policy stands up and makes sense what ever the field, but I think you know this so I wont waste any more time on it. Have a nice day or night.

Oh, now I see.
I never claimed to be an expert on any matter.
I will try and keep it simple.
Historically many organisations have a terrible record for child abuse.
All are equally reprehensible.
I have some experience and education which goes to writing policies and procedure.
The policy I am subject to in a Catholic Institution is in my opinion well formulated. It does not go to confessional issues.
In my opinion the policy presented to the ARC by Watchtower was poor.
I think the Commission was less than well pleased with Watchtower, perhaps for similar reasons as mine.
I believe the Catholics and a number of others also had a hard time at the Commission.
And thank you for you concern at my having been dealt with in a dishonest and inhumane manner by watchtower.
This is a board primarily concerned with matters JW.

Perhaps the judge was concerned about the substance of the policy?
Perhaps you didn't want to raise the Judge's comments.
And yes this is the whole point of the commission's work, to try and ensure that all organisations have robust, workable, transparent and realistic policies for Child Safeguarding.
And you are right I have a bias, having been a victim of JWs dishonest and inhumane teachings.
I also recognise good policy and procedure documents having been a Quality Assurance manager for a number of years.
I currently work in a Catholic Institution (I am atheist) and have participated in their education programs and am subject to their continuously revised policies on the subject under discussion; Child Safegaurding.
I can see the difference.

@ RO; "And if you listen to the full commission hearing you will see that since the last hearing there were a number of cases that were reported to the authorities if they were required to do so or not"
And if you listened you would have heard the Judge say " yes well that's all well and good that you are reporting while the commission is sitting but we need to know what will happen in 5 years when we are not around "
To my mind he did not sound convinced.
Just sayin, perhaps you should review the vision again and try to remove the JW filter from your glasses.

What do you think the Australian Government will do?
by Richard Oliver ini am not wanting to start a fight.
i just want to hear what people think.
honestly and realistically, what do you think the australian government will do, with watchtower, when they receive the full arc report?.

Firstly this is an inquiry into Institutional Responses to child abuse, it covered many institutions; some secular, some sporting bodies, some schools and of course a number of religions, one of which was JWs. It has the power to report to law enforcement authorities and has already done so in the matter of about 500 allegations gleaned from JW files submitted to the commission. They have also reported JWs in NSW for "concealment" matters. Opening Poster should do some research on his own. All this is available by reading the ARC's website. It is an extremely transparent process.
The commission can/has made recommendations to governments both State and Federal regarding future unity in mandatory reporting regimes of different States and the establishment of redress schemes for the aid of victims. It has made recommendations to each organisation about how to proceed with improvements and asks for feedback for the good of all. Who has been the most stubborn and least remorseful? And most others have offered unreserved apologies! Not the JWs
Really in this day what organisation does not have someone on the payroll who can formulate a policy on any given subject? Especially one which boasts a legal department. Just hire a consultant, it is not that hard. Hell I have done it and I am no scholar.
None so blind as those who choose to be. I certainly hope they revisit the Watchtower before this is over.

Benefits to Faith over Reason
by cobweb ini wrote this earlier for my own benefit in order to get some thoughts straight in my head.
it is just my own personal pondering on what i think might be the motivating force behind having a faith.
it is not intended to attack, provoke or patronize anyone who has a belief and i hope it is not taken in that way.

@looter ; "You are absolutely correct in that people who do not have faith do not have happiness or overall good feelings inside of them"
Wow, I did not see this anywhere in OP, I did see this;
"I also think one can gain those same spiritual sensations elsewhere."
Just...wow....maybe I misread it
(sorry I have not worked out the quote bit)
