Personally, I have been screwed up a bit in that department. My boyfriend mentioned once, "You never really... say NO to anything." I guess being raised to "not deprive" your partner is still pretty deeply ingrained! I was also always told, "It may be years before you're ever able to actually enjoy sex," by most of the women in my family. I now realize that they must have been doing something horribly wrong, because it's actually wonderful! But being raised with that in my mind, and then finding out what a normal relationship is like sent me over the edge, because now I want it all the time. Though, the boyfriend doesn't complain much about that.

Screwed up sexually
by purrpurr ini was thinking about how the borg screws up and sexually neuters their flock by telling them when single to "deaden their body" and then boom as soon as there's a ring on the finger to not be denying eachother.. do any of you know of jws who have been screwed up by these teachings?
i know 2, 1 elder came back from honeymoon having a nervous breakdown unable to cope with the cd that sex produced in his head.
and the other called up her parents while on honeymoon, crying and begging for themto come and get her, since she was so shocked that sex hurt.

They Don't Have A Secret Elder's Book
by pale.emperor in"they don't have a secret elder's book" so said my mother.
"all of our publications are open to everyone.
we all have the same information and nothing is hidden in this religion.".

If that's the case, Blondie, I should have been DFed every time I go to work! I work at a fire station and have to spend nights alone with guys all the time. Has anything ever happened? No. Could someone use that against me? Apparently! This is just so ridiculously laughable!

Yoga. Evil practice?
by Darkknight757 inas our fade continues, the wife and i have decided to take up "the forbidden practice of.......yoga"!!!!😱.
i was quite skeptical at first but so far it has really de-stressed our life in quite a spectacular way!!
not to mention the physical benefits.. anyone else try yoga or a similar discipline?

Yoga is one of the best things that has happened to me personally. I tried it once before I started figuring out TTATT. It might even have been one of the things that made me question my beliefs. How could something so good, and peaceful, and enlightening be wrong? It isn't. Whether you're using it for fitness, to reduce stress, or for the spiritual side of the practice, I think it has countless benefits. I'm more confident and open, just more positive about life after I practice.

Being a Socially Inept ex-JW
by LaurenM inso i'm absolutely clueless concerning relationships.
i had barely any friends at all growing up a jw kid & absolutely no interaction with "worldly" people or any guys whatsoever.
i have had a relationship of sorts with a guy for 4.5 months now, but i'm so clueless!

I'm on the exact same boat too! It's so difficult to just be thrown into the mix with NORMAL people. I had no clue what having a real friend can be like. Someone who doesn't spend time with me out of obligation, or because we have religious common ground. Unconditional friendship is so incredible. Don't give up on trying. I know how hard and scary it is. It's almost like jumping off a cliff every time you meet someone. But once you get past the scary leap, the risk is going to be so worth it. Get out there and meet people, just for the sake of doing so. I never had friends until the past two years, and now that I do I don't know how I made all these years. Just get out there and keep trying. You'll get the hang of things, and the effort will be so worth it.

Keeping your sanity while stuck as an active JW
by oldskool ini pass along this advice as a new topic, to get it past one off comments that may not get as much attention.. i exited the jehovah's witnesses about a decade ago.
like many, my personal situation felt to restrained to act on my impulse and get out quickly.
i took about a year and a half to two years to leave via da.. i empathize with anybody leaving the watchtower who finds it difficult to falsify dedication, interest, and belief in both their personal and public life.

I'm only six months into my fade and it's driving me crazy! I've never been much of a liar. I feel like the truth is going to spill out any day now. My family badgers me constantly. Their entire LIVES center around being JWs. I'm trying to build more relationships so that when I do DA I'm not left completely alone. It amazes me how much help and comfort the "big bad worldly people" have been.
My occupation has helped me. Work always gives me an excuse. Tonight was our C/O visit, but as my job sent me 3 hours away, I was able to avoid it!
All of the advice you listed sounds awesome and well thought out. Thanks for sharing!

by greenhornet ini even hate to use that word worldly tm.. any way i'm probably the worst.. 1 when the jw s come to my door i say i'm not interested .
2 i have gone to many churches and volunteered.. 3 i shredded all my jw books and magazines out in the woods.. 4 had the mormon elders over and studied with them.. 5 tried pot (its legal here).

Oo! When I started to wake up, boy did I wake up!
1. I went to a church to see a performance of Beowulf for a school project. That was the moment I knew I didn't belong in this religion. (Nothing so beautiful could be wrong!)
2. I went to college.
3. I enjoy using a well-placed "F*%k" in conversation. Feels good rolling off the tongue.
4. A "worldly" guy told me I'm a bad influence after he began using well-placed "F*%ks" in conversation.
5. I watched someone start to die. I gave him blood. He made it!
6. Yoga is my favorite hobby.
7. I've celebrated almost all of the holidays.
8. I kissed a girl, and I liked it.
9. I kissed a boy and I liked it...
10. Vampire books are sort of cool.
11. I read content on this site.
12. I don't feel guilty.

Should I get babtized?
by BlackWolf ini know this sounds like a ridiculous question but i was talking with my mom in the car today and of course we got on the topic of getting babtized again.
she told me that jehovah holds me accountable for my sins regardless of wether i am babtized or not so i have no reason to be holding back because it won't change anything.
my parents are the type of super strict jw who will shun you just for not being a witness.

I got baptized to please my parents when I was 16. It didn't make them happy. It didn't make me happy. The "friends" I was able to hold onto were only my friends out of obligation. I felt lonely even though I was able to associate with family and friends because I could never truly be myself around them. A classic case of catch 22.
Baptism out of fear won't make you happy. I wish I had just said I wasn't ready, or even the truth. Because by baptism, you're not just binding yourself to god... you'll be stuck in this organization. As it stands, your family might still communicate with you, but if you DA or are DFed, no chance at all.

My son's and I's first Valentines Day, Friendship day celebration since our awakening!!
by Khaleesi inso this weekend will be my first time celebrating friendship day since stop celebrating due to being a jw for years.
the most exciting part for me and makes me very happy is finally to have my son participate and be involved in normal activities at school with classmates.
no longer will i allow him to be ostracized at school due to the wt "cult's" ridiculous reasoning why some things are not okay to participate while others are okay.

Huzzah for you! This will be my first year celebrating too. It's exciting, eh!? I wanted to really get into it and have a date night, but me and my best friend have a whole girls day planned. Everything is so new! Congrats on doing what makes you and your son happy. -

Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?
by flipper infrom the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.
beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.
i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .
