"Hess was a bit insane and should have served some time for being
Hitler's right hand in the early war years but life was a stretch given
that he surrendered himself to the British and tried to broker an
unauthorised peace deal. The Soviets insisted he serve his life term
whilst the British, Americans and French wanted to release him to West
Germany."
Keeping him as the sole geriatric prisoner for decades after everyone else was gone was pointless, i agree. But the peace deal he wanted to broker was with the British. Not a deal to end the entire war.
If by some magic he had been successful, The battle of the Atlantic would be over along with the undeclared war at sea with the US. The US would never have entered the european war and that would also mean no lend-lease to the USSR. It also would have freed up about 30 additional divisions for the eastern front. No need to guard for an invasion of the west if they made peace with Britain.
This would have been bad news for the Soviets.

"BettyHumpter, I'm clueless. Please explain the photo to me."
It's a photo of the surviving Nazi leadership on trial at Nuremberg, with Lloyd taking the place of Wilhelm Keitel. -

"I had recently started a new job as a part time secretary at a local real estate office. When I asked my boss for a two-month leave of absence to attend a Bible course, predictably she did not share my enthusiasm. My request was refused. I responded by handing in my notice. This, in turn, left me with another problem: I had just signed an agreement that tied me to paying full monthly rent on my apartment"
The cost of living must be amazingly low in that part of England to be able to meet rent on a part time entry level job. I had a halfway decent full time job in my early 20's but still needed roommates if I wanted to live somewhere decent and not be penniless at the end of each month.
Also, even if he was granted the 2 month leave of absence, it wouldn't be with pay, so he'd have been in the same bind regarding his lease. -

"Give a donation! Out of what? Their next to nothing allowance??"
I had 2 cousins who went to bethel and my parent's would send them the odd $50 or $100 so they could have some spending money. I'm sure their parents and my other JW relatives did the same. I guess the leadership assumes that's the case with all bethelites and expect donations from that..... -

Maximum game time is 20 minutes? No arrangement for winning team to hold the court? How boring.

10 years on and I’m still indoctrinated
by joe134cd inthis experience highlights the level of my indoctrination, after 10 years of been a pomo.
a few months back my gf was hinting to me about what we could do for my birthday.
to be honest i just had no idea, that i even had a birthday.

"Although I never stated this to her, I really can’t be bothered with birthdays and Christmas. I actually see this as an advantage of been a former JW. I kind of feel embarrassed having a Birthday."
I understand this. About birthdays at least. Even though i've been out for 25+ years, birthdays feel embarrassing. My friends and non JW side of the family make a sort of big deal over it and it just makes me uncomfortable being the center of attention. I go along and appreciate the fact that people care enough to make it a special day, but the uncomfortable feeling has never left. I sometimes wonder if that's just more me as a person than JW leftovers.
Christmas and Thanksgiving however, I really like that one. Old friends back in town that maybe you only see that time of year, that sort of thing. I'm sure it also helps that some of my family were not witnesses so I had ready made traditions I was welcome into. I know that for some who leave it's just...nothing. -

Anybody know?"
About as true as any other middle aged drunk with a popped collar rambling about nonsense at the local bar...... -

Useless Majors
by Sea Breeze ini was passing through a very liberal college town recently during rush hour.
so, i decided to stop for some refreshment at a fine-looking establishment and wait for traffic to die down.
a young waitress waited on me who probably could have been stevie nicks twin when she was young.

"Persons like myself, with 40+ years of industry experience, repeatedly get sidelined by some whippersnapper straight out of university"
I've never been in the military but have often wondered how a similar scenario plays out in the minds of enlisted men vs junior officers. You know, some sergeant who's been in for 20 years, perhaps even in combat, is technically subordinate to a 22 year old second lieutenant fresh out of college. -

Doubtless someone far above my pay grade ended the Millennial generation birth year in 1996, and not at the start of the ne Millennium.
I suppose 15 years seems about right if the idea of generations having any sort of common cultural identity via shared experiences growing up is gonna make sense. Someone born in 1981 had completely different experiences growing up than someone born in 2000. The 1981 person's childhood/adolescence would have been pretty much indistinguishable from mine.
