I'm with Ding, the 1995 generation thing. I was really struggling with a lot of the same things as everyone else, but looking back, I had it my head that if nothing happened by 2000 that was it, I couldn't buy it anymore. That got bumped back to 1995 because of their STUPID, self-serving "new light".

I spent so many years consumed by shame and guilt for not being a regular pioneer. I always HATED the field service, it seemed ridiculous to me. A complete waste of time, more likely to make people hate us than anything else.

well if this is the case, then if you are not blind it is easy to see that the witnesses truly not what they present themselves as.
my wife is a testament to this characteristic.

That moment when you realize your own family won't listen to anything you say. You know that the smallest comment will be met with hatred. It is the loneliest feeling in the world.
In my opinion JWs destroyed my family. I have seen it happen to many, many people.

JW: I don't think anybody was labeling OP's wife, I think the observation was that some of her traits appear narcissistic. I don't know the numbers for diagnosed Narcissists, but what ever they are it's very subjective and does not reflect people who simply display many Narcissistic tendencies. I think you are in error about it being almost entirely men. I have read many examples of women as well.
Possibly, people who have suffered in this kind of relationship have a bit more incite on the subject. Personally, I did a lot of research, but this after many years of living with this kind of person.
JW, I should not have implied that you were a Narcissist because of your opinion. I'm sorry it was bad form.

The only people who think the word Narcissist is thrown around too much are Narcissists. Sorry, nothing personal, but this subject grinds my gears.
I will allow for the possibility that a person could simply have no experience with Narcissists.

Did You Go To Meetings in Very Inclement Weather?
by minimus inliving in new england means having lots of snow and cold.
elders were very reluctant to cancel or reschedule a meeting due to the weather.
i lived 3 towns away from the kingdom hall and if it was icy and treacherous my vote would always be to cancel the meeting....and forget about rescheduling!.

Then there was field service in below freezing weather with babies and toddlers.
Man I hated it.

In the 70's and 80's meetings were almost never cancelled. It was the North West, very rough winters. There was this horrible Elder ( he raped his own daughters we found out) he was always ready to filling for a brother that couldn't make it. Terrible speaker, always bragged he could give a public talk with no notice.
Also, some years our circuit Assembly was in the middle of winter and on the far side of a mountain pass. Icy roads all the way. I thought don't they even bother to look at a map when they plan these things?

Anxiety, OCD, Hoarding, and the JWs
by Spiral ini'm noticing what seems to be a higher incidence of the above among the local jws than in the "general" (read: worldly) population.
i don't say this lightly, my wanderings around the fringes of jw society locally is revealing an alarming trend here.
the poverty doesn't help (there are good jobs, but you need a degree or qualifications to get one).. anyone else see this?

Huge anxiety and depression problem in my family. All born in's. So much guilt, never doing enough, no matter how hard you try.
I still suffer from a lot of anxiety, it's the biggest problem in my life. I'm hoping reading what all the nice people on this forum say about their experiences will give me some perspective.
Or maybe I need a shrink:)
