I am moved
by rune ini stayed up all night to see it... the buildings out the windows of my apartment shimmer in the distance as a wave of golden light rises from the horizon, painting the sky glorious shades of blue, violet and orange.
the darkness recedes, creeping through the forests before the city.
light, especially a sunrise, holds a special place in my heart.... what moves you?

When I see, from a position of anonymity, Human A do some kind thing for Human B, where Human B never realizes what was done for them, or who did it, and Human A keeps it just that way. Such a thing does move me. To tears, even.

Why ? Why? WHY???
by rune inthis topic has been rolling around in my head for some time.
i don't expect that i'll write it perfectly as it needs to be articulated in different ways for different people...but i will do my best.
and worst of all, i am not expecting any kind of response that will satisfy me.

I was looking for a little understanding, perhaps, if there was any to be gained from posing these questions.
I didn't read this entire thread... just skimmed mostly... stopping here and there when the mood struck. Reading your comments to various ones and theirs to you, your quote here makes me wonder...
Were you really, I mean sincerely interested in understanding? In "gaining"? The reason I say that is because you are obviously bright?I really enjoy bright people?and had already given the topic a lot of thought. Coming in, you had, as far as I could see (and I could very well be wrong), already made up your mind. People who are in such a settled and comfortable position of KNOWING are rarely seeking to gain. I know. I've been that way too many times myself.
The only way we can truly gain is to come to the discussion open-hearted and empty-headed. By that I mean, to put aside, as best we can, our own thoughts. To approach the subject as a child who's totally knew to the topic. And then listen. You can always go back and pick up?even embrace as superior?your own previously-held thoughts on the way out.
I say this as a potential friend. FWIW. -

a quiet moment on the beach
by teejay inthere was a commercial on tv tonight during a football game... .
a couple with their backs to the camera were sitting on a beach facing a crystal blue sea.
soft, tropical breezes blew, seabirds called to one another, gentle waves crashed onto a pristine golden shore.

Is It More Important to You to "Love" or Be "Loved"?
by pettygrudger inalthough both are important parts of human existence, they are not mutually inclusive.
is it more important to you to feel "love" for others or to know you're "loved" by others?
i think the answer to that question sometimes dictates our actions as human beings..

I agree with Badger. I think it's far more important to be loved. Without feeling loved, I don't think you can love.
Good question. -

There is a relationship to your questions, so there's a single answer, IMO: humans have a highly developed brain which drives them to think there's more to life than this brief existence of eating, sleeping, passing wastes, and procreating, only to pass off into a void of nothingness forever. By believing we are special, even of Divine origin, they delve into the mystical to solve the "unsolvable mystery" you speak of.
I encourage their sense of discovery. Perhaps someone will find some convincing proof and come back and tell us all. -

I think one of the things that causes "intolerance" is the need to be right. And when we feel our way is the right way and other peoples ways are wrong ways... If we feel there is no right way then we become tolerant we have less friction... frankiespeakin
There's a whale of truth in there. I've certainly been guilty of thinking I was totally in the right?becoming intolerant?only to find out that I was wrong. Having strong opinions but still being willing to bend is a trick I'm still trying to master.

Take a passive approach (I'm sure there's a Japanese or Native American phrase for it). Instead of fighting the water that's running downstream, let if flow. Accept what is.
FWIW, I noticed a couple more gray-to-white hairs on my own head this morning. I thought it was funny. I actually laughed at the dude in the mirror. I also wondered how my mother, a good 30 years older than me, has jet-black hair. How does she do that? -

If some jealousy (in mild form) isn't demonstrated occasionally, it can too easily be interpretted as indifference.
Then what?

I think there's a difference between noticing a good looking person and the *jaw drop to floor/stare up & down for 5 minutes then continuously looking around to see if you can catch a glimpse of said beautiful person again.
You'll have to see the commercial, Rhonda. The man was very cool in how he appreciated the beauty very much in his field of vision. Honest.
Dude was cooler than me, even. Like I said... I'd be forced... forced, I tellya... to comment. An appreciation of life's finer things would demand it. My wife trips sometimes and trust me, she'd trip all by her lonesome on that one. I'd be discreet, but I'm a freakin' man, gosh darn it!
