"In politics nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."
The events on 9-11 weren't political events, of course, but few would argue that they were certainly planned. The question lies in what exactly happened, who knew what and when. There's ample reason to believe that the whole story has not been and will likely never be told.
Apparently, there are millions of Americans, despite America's well-documented duplicitous history, who trust American leaders without the slightest question. I'd have an easier time accepting their blind trust if I knew they'd not experienced being lied to in the past in any other setting.
The fact that ex-JWs who have, at considerable cost to themselves, can turn their backs on their own personal history and blindly accept what they are told is something that amazes me. -

Cindi Lauper
by Cygnus in.
she's like 50 or 51 now, but when "girls just wanna have fun" came out, as a red blooded teenage boy i was totally in love.. just thought you all needed to know.

Yeah, ol' Cyndi was a really cool chick. I liked her a lot. What I really found fascinating was this:
Lauper took a break from singing at this point, but didn't disappear from show business, and in 1993 she played Michael J. Fox's secretary in My Life With Mikey. She released the critically acclaimed album Hat Full of Stars in the same year, but once again sales were poor. With a smooth new R&B sound and production by Junior Vasquez, she tackled such topics as spousal abuse and abortion.
She was really into some cutting edge issues, particularly those related to women and abuse. Gotta respect her for that. -

It always amazes me to see a group of people, after wasting years of their life and years of their children's lives, being perfectly comfortable being told to, "shut up... believe what we tell you... you're in good hands... everything will be alright."
I would think ex-JWs would be the most cynical, distrusting, disillusioned people on the planet. It shocks me whenever I see that's usually not the case. -

For one who is totally disinterested in this subject, I thoroughly enjoyed your posts. Very fair and balanced. Thanks. -

Got this email from an old colleague I hadn't heard from in a while. It offers some common sense suggestions, whether you are a believer or not. Do what I did: Take from it what you will. Disregard the rest...
36 CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS
Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.
1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations and revisit them.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.
25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33. Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe
36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31) -

Why I am leaving JWD
by logansrun ini'm leaving this forum...at least temporarily.
as i mentioned in conversation over dinner at the chicago apostafest, my upcoming school schedule (which begins next week) combined with my workload will make it very difficult to be an active member on this forum.
perhaps i'll check in occassionaly when life is a little slower but for now i'd better distance myself from the on-line scene or else the other elements in my life will suffer.

... they said I had been very negative lately and carrying a lot of baggage. That obsessing about the JWs being wrong was obsessive and that the JW religion controlled me more today than it did 10 years ago.
I had actually been doing fine and recently looked into all of this, and I have to admit have become hooked, addicted, and obsessed. So, I understand your wanting to focus on school and building your mind. I realized today that my preaching to my mom, my obsessing about how "wrong" their "truth" is, turns out to equal exactly what they do, trying to convert non-believers. ? PinkA remarkable post.
Good luck to you, too, Pink. -
