Undecided
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini have recently been disfellowshipped (after being reinstated in march).
i saw a group of jws gathered in the town car park yesterday.
they seemed startled when they recognised my car and talked amongst themselves giving one another a satisfied grin!

Since then I have been wondering whether to attend the meetings just for the hell of it. The elders there and others (mainly men) who were uncomfortable with my presence and made it difficult for me until they drove me out. I hated the fact that they would be satisfied about it. I don't want to get reinstated I would just like to attend meetings and show them they have no power over me and I can be there if I want to. Thoughts please?
I'd say that life is too short and the world is way bigger than those congregation idiots. Forgive yourself for allowing yourself getting sucked into that nonsense and move on. You will be feeding into their nonsense (and it's all nonsense) simply to end up with them displaying power over you. You are never going to be able to make your point for as long as you are an outsider.
The JW POS's that attempted at doing that with me (talking among themselves and giggling as I passed by) were confronted with quite a few encounters with me. Every time that one of them saw me and star talking I'd go to them and ask them if there's anything they have to say to me or about me. I always got silence from them, and they got the message that they are nobodies.
It's not a bad thing that they see you and cross to the other side of the street. They are not running away from you; they are running away into their own stupid little bubble that gives them comfort. You represent all the things they feel inadequate about. Never forget that.
There are plenty of loving people out there, plenty of places to go where you can be accepted, and plenty of things to do to use your time wisely instead of getting sucked into their miserable lives.

WT “Study” for 11th Sept 2016 – “Why Must We ‘Keep on the Watch’”?
by Nicholaus Kopernicus ini was really puzzled when i opened this edition of the wt magazine at the above “study”.
what on earth has this picture at the top of page 13 got to do with christian watchfulness?
i wasn’t making a connection at all.

Lets be honest we will never expose the danger to the world of JW.org
by James Mixon ini thought, ok the case in australia would open the eyes of the world about this dangerous cult.. well that passed without a ripple.
we talk about the un and the wt link, none jw's don't.
understand the significance.

James, today scandal is an asset in some circles, look at celebrities and politicians today and see if they have any real care for what is morally correct (which is debatable, anyway).
So yes, I share some concerns about what you post, but at the same time, there is in fact awareness, there's not a lot of regard for organizations like the WT, especially in developed countries where information flows fast and it's easily accessible.
The WT is not going to disappear, and it will continue harming children as they cannot care less about children, but there is a lot more awareness today and because of some of those events.

The 1914 doctrine: How long it will last?
by opusdei1972 inone hundred years have passed and the society still supports this lie, which of course, is the basis of their other lies, like that of the unfaithful and not discreet slave appointed in 1919. however, i wonder, what will happen after 50 years, when the overlapped generation will pass?.
and if you want, what will happen with this religion in 2100?, could it survive with the same lie??

I'm afraid that the 1914 nonsense is going to last for as long as it serves their purpose. As soon as they find something to replace it or as soon as they run out of ridiculous explanations or "new light" announcements, I'm sure they are going to come up with a plan to have something else substitute it.
The fact that they are now conditioning their followers to (1) get use to changes as per their saying and (2) continue hiding, destroying and/or minimizing what they have said in the past under the excuse of "new light', gives them leeway to prolong what they preach.
In other words, the 1914 nonsense isn't going away for as long as it continues being their milking cow.

who else as a result of being a Jw has been cynical of relationships.
Not as a result of being a JW, but since I was born in, I never had a good realistic foundation about relationships.

Why Do People Become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inbesides being raised in the religion , why do people become jws?

There's this Psychologist named Elizabeth Esther who posted in her blog something very interesting about why people join. Here's her list of reasons (I agree with her take; this is from her blog):
1. We Have What You've Been Looking For: Do you crave meaningful relationships? Are you tired of superficial pursuits? Do you long for abundance, happiness and wealth?
2. Sense of Urgency: TODAY is the day of salvation! What if you die tomorrow? Will you have ANY regrets???? [SIDEBAR: when I was "witnessing" to people, I would get super frustrated when they replied, "Well, if I die tomorrow then I'll be glad I lived a good life." I was like: Nooooooo! BE ANXIOUS! BE VERY AFRAID! Otherwise this whole formula doesn't WORRRK!"]
3. Sense of Purpose: Did you know God has a Great Plan for your life? Do you really want to miss out on that? Join our cause. God is REALLY MOVING in our generation. Together, we can change the world. [SIDEBAR: this whole phrase about "God IS MOVING in our generation!!" really annoys me. Newsflash, guys. God has moved in EVERY generation. God didn't suddenly start MOVING once evangelicals figured out how to build mega-churches. Or win political elections. When I was growing up we were all: yeah, Christianity existed and everything. But it didn't really START until like the 1500's when Martin Luther nailed a letter to a church door. I mean, THAT'S when God REALLY started moving!"]
4. Sense of Superiority: we are the TRUE believers. We are the PURE ones. We are reclaiming what's been lost. We have uncovered hidden truths. You won't find this anywhere else. You might be a nobody in this world, but in OUR group you'll be special. [SIDEBAR: I often call this "The Special-Ness Syndrome." The more SPECIAL a church thinks it is, the faster I run away.]
5. INCENTIVES!!! Look at all these beautiful women following Jesus! Look at all these godly, spiritual men! You could have TRUE intimacy. No more broken hearts. You will find a wife who respects and serves you. You will find a husband who loves and provides for you. You will find a community of like-minded people who will help you and you will never be alone again!! [SIDEBAR: in cults--as in everywhere else--sex sells.] -

Origin of Life
by cofty inin recent years significant progress has been made in solving the question of how life originated on our planet.. how do you think theists will respond when it finally happens?
as a former christian i know my reaction would have been something like "well that just goes to show that it takes intelligent life to make life", but for two reasons that defense doesn't work.. firstly it would prove that life is not an ethereal force that originates with god.
there is no 'ghost in the machine', no elan vital.

For what it's worth, not that I give a rat's behind about how life started, nor that such thing will ever make me believe one thing or another differently, theists still keep measuring atheism and atheists in the same way they think and view things. Time and time again, they still keep bundling every single atheist in the same place as if there's some kind of organization named atheism, with an atheist temple where they congregate to study atheism and worship something. Keep that in mind.

Joseph and his generation
by maninthemiddle inso the wt used ex 1:6 to define a generation from the very beginning.
then in the this september broadcast the same person (splain) who spent 20 min with charts to explain a generation, makes a point that joseph and his brothers were very close in age?
(min 4:29).

scratchme said why this piece of information in particular
Of the many type of discrepancies, this one was said by the same person. The generation was a big deal for me back when it first came out, (when was that 2010?), this subject is not new for me, but I take interest in how they keep trying to push it.
Prologs, since he didn't connect those dots, (generation was not the topic) I don't think that was the agenda this time, I think it was a moment of clarity, because it is accurate (according to the bible) that his brothers were close in age. It's that he doesn't realize what it means for something he was saying himself in front of the camera not even a year ago that make it interesting.
Thanks.
