How has 2017 treated you so far?

i can't wait till 2017 comes to an end.

here are s few things that have happened to my family and i:.

my jehovah's witnesses mom died in the beginning of the year.

Certainly better than yours so far. I'm sorry you are having a rough time. Your 2017 sounds a lot like my 2016. I lost my mother, had to deal with a whole lot of nonsense around it, had a lot of very demanding projects at work that required traveling to places I didn't want to go to, had to be away from my family for a long time, and spent three months with a kidney stone stuck in my dick.

This year has been much better for me, other than having to deal with the vulgar pig that we call president of USA, and the consequences of having him as such.

Phone call with a disfellowshipped relative

so i call my grandfather who has been inactive for several decades and he's at vacation in puerto rico.

the conversation is normal, we talk about how he's doing down there and how i am doing.

then he tells me that my cousin who i haven't seen in 5 years, is with him and asks if i would like to speak to him; i said yes.

Remember Your First Taste of Freedom?

it's around 10am here in the northeast of brazil.

i have just finished having coffee and a light breakfast.

i am reflecting on my saturdays of jw past, where i would be just about ready to leave the morning field service group and go door-knocking.. honestly, i hated every second of field service, always keeping one eye on the clock, counting down the minutes until service would be over.. 12 years later since i last "preached", i am also reflecting on the sense of freedom i experienced (and still experience) when i definitively said "no more!

Satan. He does nothing but challenging bipolar schizophrenic with narcissistic tendencies Jehovah and gets blamed for everything bad without proof. Just like the way I was raised as a JW.

Cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics in social media!

so over the last few years, the witnesses i know (who were close friends in the past) who follow me on instagram social media have been steadily dropping off and blocking me..... but there are a small number who are still friends.. i have noticed one sad situation for one friend who is clearly battling cognitive dissonance.

if she posts a picture and i leave a nice comment on it, my comment quickly disappears.

(she must delete it i guess) but then soon after she sends a nice private message asking how we are, or commenting on the post or activity.

Actually, stuckinarut2, that may not be cognitive dissonance at all. She may be as brainwashed, led to believe that such behavior is appropriate and normal.

With my family they thought that it was ok to contact me when they need something from me, but not for anything else. That was taught to them; it was not coming from any form of thinking and rationalizing illogical behaviors. It was brainwashing.

I also remember when suddenly one of my sisters called me because "now they are allowed to reach out", without any consideration of if I even wanted to talk to her. Again, they were just blindly following directives that were given to them.

Cognitive dissonance comes mostly from a place where the actions or words behind their believes are challenged, as opposed to when they just do things following what they have been told to do.

Sad, indeed, and sorry is the right way to feel about them.

Shouldn't they be happy? That's what they claim it's supposed to have when there are no people left to preach to. Never mind, they are full of --it and it shows.

Believers: How do you know your view of your chosen holy book is the correct one?

i am genuinely curious.

after all i was a jobo 50 years and thought the wbt$ was 100% correct.. i ask this because i see that, for example, christian denominations (or whatever), likely have differing interpretations of the same writing.

My two cents: why limiting it to believers? The same question can be asked to any person who has a belief (or non-belief).

after studying hubble space telescope images of the night's sky and attending classes under disguise at wor-wic community college (air travel and tuition funded by your donations no less), gerrit losch managed to secure a two-thirds majority vote among the governing body to release a second updated edition of the creator book.

this new edition replaces the "pillars of creation" (eagle nebula) cover photo with "god's birdie" (carina nebula):.

they've also had a change of heart with regards the concept of intellectual honesty and have updated the quote on page 9 that said:.
